A let down
The game itself is flashy and fun with friends but thats about it. The computer is still horrible and spams all the time and is really frustrating. The gauge system is annoying as well. It was highly unnecessary to add to the game. on top of this annoying system, guard impacts are now required to have gauge/meter. WHY? that was like the best defense mechanism in a fighting game ive seen and you resorted it to your new gauge system. To replace it though you invented just guards (which are pretty much just impacts but harder). I myself can perform these but it lacks sometimes and doesnt catch the move your trying to defend yourself against. I wasnt impressed. And in a year the game is almost as much as 4 which says something. Honestly i think 4 was the best soul calibur made, 3 being a close second.

Good addition to the series, could be better.
If you are not good at this game, you're going to have a hard time getting into it. This game requires practice-and a lot of it. Arcade mode has no intro or ending for the characters you play, and the story mode is atrocious. This is really an online based game. If you are a fast learner and have played the series before, pick it up.

My personal favorite fighter.
I've been a fan of the Soul Calibur series since Soul Calibur II and have loved every release to come since. I pre-ordered this game (I know it's been a while since its release but I just started writing reviews on here) and had some big expectations for it. Soul Calibur V did not disappoint. I love most the new innovations in the game mechanics and the graphics are simply astounding. I like the new characters, even if I was more than a little disappointed to see one of my old favorites get cut from the roster (Talim). Online is great, the best online I've played in all honesty. Definitely a huge step up from Soul Calibur IV's. The story was a bit disappointing because they did away with individual character endings... but that's really my only real complaint with the game. All in all, this is a spectacular game and even with Tekken Tag 2 out now (which I also love... though, not quite as much), I believe Soul Calibur V is still a must have for any fighting game fan.

Get it now!
Okay, first the book. This is a very high-quality case, which looks exactly like the book seen in Soulcalibur 3 and the soundtrack and making-of stuff is all on the inside front cover. The game itself is in a normal game box, nothing special, but I chose to keep it in the book and display it on my entertainment center. The DLC is really cool and every true Soulcalibur fan needs it for their Creation mode. You can make the best looking villians ever, trust me. Story mode is too short, but every other mode has been improved so much that this could barely be compared to the last entry. You have to unlock stuff for Creation by playing, but you don't get cash, it becomes available naturally. Ezio is a remarkablely well-suited fighter for this game and I honestly hope he comes back in the next game...but of course, he won't. The actual new characters are all kind of lame, but there's still Nightmare, Voldo, Mitsurugi, Ivy and a couple more faves. By the way, Ivy finally has a sense of modesty. If that just made you hate this game, I'm sorry. Arcade mode is way better than ever. Multiplayer has more modes and ways to play. All in all, Awesome!

All together this game is bad@$$
this game is amazing in a lot of things, but the camera views in battle could use a little bit of help. The character creation is the best of any game. i would strongly recomend this game to any player.

Not a bad Game
I don't know about anyone else but this game was not that bad, granted the stories that dominated the previous 4 games and it mInly focused on 2 chracters , should have came into play more but it dosent make this game n epic fail.......this game has good sound, good gameplay soul Calibur fans will love this game however for the gamers that are just entering the soul Calibur world this game was not that bad.....and the collectors is worth getting good extras..

Soul Calibur RIP
i have been a fan of the soul calibur series since it the first installment was released on the dreamcast and i downloaded it first chance i got on the xbox marketplace. After playing through the story line which had a pictures for cutscenes most of the time as well as a bunch of easily forgettable characters and a plot that seemed like there wasn't much thought put into it. The online gameplay is the only reason why i'm not giving the score for this game a lower score. Fighting against real live people makes the game much more entertaining. i hope namco takes some time off from making any soul calibur games

Great Game, Could be better though...
If you have stuck with the SoulCalibur series since the first title "SoulEdge," then this SHOULD be and easy pick right out of Gamestop's shelves. However many people, including myself think the story line could use some more work. In my opinion I don't think the creators put too much time into the main story. The game needs to be more in-depth. However, I felt that the graphics were pushed to a phenomenal rate, the game looks more detailed and cleaner than it did in the previous title "SoulCalibur IV," and each character's individual attacks show nothing but pure GLOW when their swords clash together and swing left to right. The gameplay is probably my biggest concern because of how many components were removed. For example, when you scroll down through the move list, you may notice many combos were excluded. Also, in SoulCalibur IV each armor piece was categorized by its stats. While in SoulCalibur V there are no stats when customizing your appealing and extraordinary characters. The creators did this so that the game could be SIMPLER. However the detail and list of armor choices were increased in the character customization menu. This gives every owner of the game a larger variety of customizing, and it puts many more hours more in creating. Lastly, the sound...............well I don't put too much thought into the sound, but it is great. - Cross Line Gaming -- that is the clan I'm in. If you ever see "cL" on XBOX Live you will know it is us.

Very Underrated
Judging from the rating people have barely dug into this game there are a good amount of characters but every character is so different with different combos and attacks. i admit the story was disappointing but the Xbox live is extremely fun and so is playing with friends i cant stop playing this game. The game is difficult to get used to because you cant just button mash x u have to strategize and anticipate what your character will do. every CPU is different depending on the character so your same combo wont work good for every character. as for the lack of characters i have 2 words CHARACTER CREATION! for people that are really good at the game there is a mode called legendary souls. the collectors edition is pretty cool but not worth the extra money i would recommend just getting the regular game. but all in all great fighting game the other reviews are by people who have barely amerced themselves in this beautifully made game.

This game deserves better ratings.
First off I would like to say that all the other reviews are not accurate at all. Although I think Soul Calibur 4 was better it's still a great game that a group of friends can sit down and play for a few hours. Ezio Auditore is a great special character, just wish there could be one more. The graphics are a whole step up from 4 which is a huge plus for this game. But overall I would definitely say at least buy the regular version, but if you're a true fan go ahead and buy the collectors edition for $20 more it's a good buy. But if you have never played soul calibur before at least rent it.
