The story mode of this game lacks a good story but its great to play and is more realistic than the multiplayer mode, cars actually explode in the story mode, and enemies hop away if you shoot them in the feet.A major problem is there is only 5 maps and no upgrades available at xbox marketplace,I hope the developers make a better version of this game for 360, it has the potential to be a 10 score game. There is less lag in story mode but thats because online users have slow internet connections.Even though this is a 2007 game you will always find a match to play online,To me online gaming is the ultimate I usually don't play any games in single player mode anymore.Buy this game its worth the money you won't be disappointed, but beware the good players online stick together and kill the less skilled players, that sucks. But I always support the underdogs,

Who cares about a story line? Who cares about intricate plot lines? Who cares about secret organizations bent on pushing the world down the drain? I don't and neither does a mercenary. All we care about is blasting limbs off of stupid people who get in our way. We want to blow things up and see body parts scatter over the country side. The more gore the better, that's what I say. Show me someone who doesn't like gore in video games and I'll show you someone who isn't desensitized enough to violence. Is it just me or is the sight of some computer generated bad guy, crawling around on the floor because you shot him in the legs, the most satisfying sight in the world. I hope the guys making the new SoF don't try to get to political and just stick to what they do best: making our stomachs churn at the amount of blood on screen.

I hope they go back to the roots of the game, cause SOF2 was a serious dissapointment, it didnt have look, feel, nor the level of graphic detail that the 1st game had. Yes like the 1st game, the 2nd game let you blow people apart, remove limbs, and generally spatter the map with gore, but it just didnt have the SoF 1 feel to it. yes the enemies made gurgling noises when u shot them in the neck in the 2nd game just as they hop around on one foot when u shoot them in the shins but it felt very half-assed compared to the first game. Also SoF2 felt to much like they were trying to make it a rainbow six game IMO. Also in the first game, if u shot an enemy in the hand they would drop there weapon, and in most cases, surrender. I did not manage to successfully disarm an enemy in SoF2 but then again I didnt really play it so much.

Toshay, This game is a realistic army experiance. Bring on the Terrorist! I got 3 words to describe this game, bloody, gory, shooter! Holy cow, This game is like die hard, just with alot more vengance. If you take Farcry 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Borderlands, and Halo 3, just cause 2. It would make the best shooter in mankind! speaking of this, it has something from all of those games! But this game is not better than the other games itself. This game is out of this world, the controls are same old same old, but drive cars in a shooter? Thats fine with me, you can also do that in Battlefield BC. in this game a well orgnized army has to take over national, aliens (border aliens). They share a well amount of bad guys and you dont find one in every corner, thank god! I got 3 words for you, BRING IT ON!

This game was the bloodiest and goriest game ive ever played. This is what made the game worth it. The challenge is easy, but the blood is amazing. when you shoot someone, there limbs and heads fly off, like there is no tommorow. The storyline sucks, but the point of the game is to basically kill everyone and leave a bloody gory mess. For every mission you are alone, but like i said the game is faily easy. You actually get to pick your guns for the campaign, which i thought was a bonus, because no other shooter i have played allows you to do this. You get to pick two primary weapons, and a pistol. The game is very short, and doesn't take long to beat, and the ending is a loose end, but what makes this game worth it, is that it is pure violence. If you are a fan of violence or gore, then give this game a try.

Well, let me start off by saying, this SOF series was never truly groundbreaking and this one shows it...the fun part about the game is you are able to blow off limbs such as arms, heads ECT. its fun and its different from your typical shooter....overall the gamplay is alright...if you are a fps fan your going to like the game...not love it...there is nothing to love about its just good in the sense of shooting and killing things its no where near CoD 4...I never actually thought I would see a new SoF....Nor did I want to. The old on was a solid 8...this one maybe a 6-7...kinda ruined the series to me. But I do recommend it to true fps players it’s a great time and its fun to blow things up is it not? Anyway you need to try it out for yourself and May you see some fun in a game I saw fun in but didn’t catch on to.
Rated 4 out of 10 by Gotthegoods91 Alright but a bit behind
This game might have been better if I hadn't played it right after COD 4. The graphics are more than a bit behind a groundbreaking game such as COD 4, but it was a fun game for about an hour. I started to notice problems in graphics and responsiveness (such as random characters popping up before my eyes). It was fun to take the mercenary aspect and run with it as well as customizing weapons. But like I said before, you can't really compare it to games like COD. As for the storyline, it kinda just threw you into the action with no reasons as to why and I was a little confused throughout. There really was no storyline and that would have made it a bit better, but not much. If you were thinking about purchasing this game I would say hold up and rent or borrow it first and if you enjoy it enough go ahead and buy it.

i got this game when it first came out, granted the campaign was terrible and a chore at best, the multiplayer is always a blast. The guns are fun to customize and you have many choices between scopes and silencers and frontmounts. it is alwayes fun when you are tired of all the new games, and just want to go back and own someone, so before yu read all the negatives hears the positives. if you love to play a good old shooter and don't care for campaigns welll then this is deffinittly the game for you. also if you are into call of duty this is vaguely resemblent of one of the best online shooters. so if you want to spend a little money put it in the right place and enjoy what i believe to be one of the most adictive games on the market. Just steer clear of the campaign!

This game is horrible it took me hours to beat level 2. I got very frustrated over it. I returend it the day i got it. It is not worth the money. If you want a bad time and horrible games buy this. Ibought it because my buddy said it was realistic. It is not even close. I would shoot and people would lose arms and gallons of blood come out. I was disgusted when I used the knif and stabbed a man in the throat. He sat their gasping for air and I sat their blood was everywhere and he gasped for his last breaths. The graphics were an ok deal. The best feature was the sound. The guns sounded real and the music was suspenseful. The story was O.K but wouldn't recomend it. The most fun was the shotgun and grenade because they were the least disgusting.

Soldier of Fortune: Pay Back is a decent shooter if you're looking for a quick fix. What makes this game stand out from other FPS's is the extremely violent way that you can dispose of your enemies in which you can blow off there legs, arms, and heads. And while yes its been done before in other games, in Pay Back its ridiculously over the top with huge amounts of blood spraying every which way. Other than that its your typical FPS, but at least it holds up throughout the game (thanks to the over the top violence). Single player consists of only 5 chapters broken up into areas (example 1-1, 1-2, etc),. There not long so if you really wanted to you could finish it a day, or even afternoon. Multiplayer consists of Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Elimination, and Capture the Flag. Your regular multiplayer modes since the dawn of time. At least when you play with a bunch of people its alot of fun (due again to the over the top gore). Graphics are OK, controls are great and very easy to learn, and the music is alright. Oh and one last thing to the achievement junkies, if your looking to pick this game up be forewarned that about 85%-90% of the achievements are multiplayer, so if multiplayer isn't your thing stay FAR AWAY. Other than that S.O.F Pay Back is alright. Get it really cheap like I did and you'll have a cool time.
