Shellshock 2: Blood Trails
This game is definitely under-rated.
I have been reading a lot of reviews for this game and I must say it is very under-rated. It is not as bad as people are making it out to be. The graphics aren't horrible for all you graphics junkies. It's not your gears of war but it's decent. Controls are pretty straight. Story is good and has some creepy parts into it. The gameplay is pretty fun and can be challenging at times. I am enjoying it. The sounds are okay. However this game is not all flawless. There is no map so it can take forever to find out your destination. You can't jump. Also when you are in a big firefight there is almost nowhere to hide and rejuvenate health that's really annoying. Also sometimes this game could of had the potential to have more "Spark" in the story. However it is really fun and I am enjoying it. If your a survival/Horror game this is worth the $40. If your not sure rent it and give it a shot. I am very disappointed with all the underrated reviews for this game, deserves better.
I liked it... but...
Well first off, its a pretty damned good game with and above the line story, but its glitchy at parts... But its also very freaky and unsettling at parts of the story as well, the controls are pretty good, I hated the interface, and the graphics seem PS1-Early PS2, but the gameplay more than well makes up for that, it keeps you on the edge of your seat, its got a nice choice of weapons and stuff, and the characters you fight alongside aren't boring like those of other games that are like this, you never know whats gonna come at you next, but I didn't really like the ending, but I won't spoil it for you, this game is a pretty good game, and if your not a graphics nut like half the others who have reviewed it, I'd say it gets way more negative attention that it deserves, so Im going to give it a well deserved 7/10, although it could've been MUCH better with a few more months of development, but as I said before, its not a total let down, and you won't regret buying even if your a graphics nut or not, peace.
not horrible, but close
i played the first shellshock on ps2 and enjoyed it...it was challenging, played smoothly, and had a great storyline...it also had great graphics...not by today's standards of course, but several years ago looked great...this game on the other hand, is quite poor. it's only a challenge because the controls feel like you are walking through a planet made of jello...normal movement is slow, turning is a pain, you can't see hardly any enemies...i'm pretty dissapointed to be honest...i'm only going to play it for the acheivements because they are easy to come by...about the only good thing i have to say about the game is the gore...blowing off limbs, even half of someone's face is a nice touch...but it get's a little old...all the zombies and soldiers look the same...the ai is about as dumb as it gets...i think a six year old programmed it...just a renter in my opinion...another achievement hunter's game...don't bother buying it...i'm now kicking myself for reserving it...going back to gamestop after i finish it.
Decent, but not for everyone...
I had been looking forward to this game for a while. I bought it and when i started this game i thought it was great. Finally a good vietnam game. Well when i started to play it more I began to get disappointed. The main thing i was disappointed in was the very poor graphics. I felt like i was a young kid again playing a brand new PS2 game. I felt while playing the game some of the parts were repetitive, killing Zombies, going into places then running back out of them, shooting enemies in trees and bushes are to name a few repetitive moments. I still fairly enjoyed this game though. This game could have been a lot better if they would have taken a little more time and worked out the kinks. To be perfectly honest if enjoy playing shooters and having fun just running around shooting enemies and pressing the occasional quick button pressing to dodge traps or out strong enemies this is a game for you.
Are the Achievements worth killing yourself?
Wow well, i liked the first shellshock when it came out i borrowed it from my uncle and i loved it. Honestly it made me buy my first ps2. But this game, you have no idea how mad i got at it. The zombies take 5 body shots from a shotgun or just shoot them in the head once, hitting them with your gun is easier then shooting them. The levels all look repetitive and the loading and entering screens look like they were made with a microsoft program. The controls are decent but i had to turn my gun sensitivity half way down since it's so fast. The graphics are pitiful even for ps2 and the voice work is dull. The only thing that had me keep playing was the achievements were i earned myself 555 points for just putting 4 hours into beating the game. This game isn't even a rent because in the next month or so it will be one of the gamestop deals of the week for ** *******.
Not what i expected
I was a huge fan of the first shellshock and when I saw the second one I was super excited....that was until I saw the story line . but I figured why not judge until I played. right? well there's no compass so you get lost a lot . the game is very dark and hard to see half the time adding to the confusion and its very cheap graphics and mechanics . good for scares though. the story was good but this whole game could have been way better. it was a giant let down in my eyes . I scored it how fairly I could but its definently not something I will play anytime soon.
A Cool Horror FPS
Shell Shock 2 Blood Trails has been brutally ripped to shreds on many gaming websites and honestly I really don't understand why, as this is a cool and serviceable horror FPS. Rebellion is one of my favorite developers and as far as I'm concerned they have turned in something that AT LEAST feels fresh (to me anyway) from all the war/army FPS's. You play during the Vietnam war (finally something OTHER than WW2) and there is a drug/chemical called White night that turns people into bloodthirsty ravages. The whole point of the game is to find your brother (who has been infected with White night), and see if you can put a stop to the madness that ensues. The graphics aren't great but they are far from terrible. Even though nothing truly stands out what's on display is fine. Character models look cool with decent detail, as well as the environments. Again, nothing outstanding, just good. Controls are massively easy to learn. RT shoots, RB makes you sprint, X reloads, LT zooms, LB throws grenades, A is your flashlight, Y is your "action" button, B is your melee button, and the D-pad changes your weapons. Simple and effective. You'll have no problem getting accustomed to the controls at all. Sound and voice acting sound great. A lot of the voice work sounds straight out of that specific time era, guns and grenades pack a wallop, and the music sounds very dark and morbid. No complaints at all. Shell Shock 2 is FAR from terrible. I'm glad that I picked this up. If your interested in it I would definitely recommend it as Eidos has released it for the budget price of $40. I wont lie, its a tad short with only 10 levels and its not too difficult but what IS offered here is a capable and serviceable horror FPS.
I will start off by saying i really enjoy shellshock 2. i just got it a couple of days ago on my ps3 and i am now on the last level. i'll start off by naming the bad in the game. first is how dark it is in a lot of the game but that can be fixed by the brightness bar. second the enemy AI spikes from stupid to genius in about 2 seconds at some point sit seemed. the guns also felt a little weak but that is easy to overlook bc of the pretty decent variety of guns in the game.third the game is pretty short about 4.5 to 5 hrs in all in 1 playthrough. now for the good in the game. first great atmosphere for a war game lots of blood and gore. second the graphics are not as bad as people are making them out to be they are actually halfway decent. and as for the story it is alright i would recommend it for ***.
Shellshock 2 is a First person shooter that takes place in the Vietnam war, with zombies.I really liked this game. The Good: -The game has an excellent story, you play as Nate who goes looking for his brother who has been infected with the Whiteknight, a virus that turns people into brainless flesh eating zombies -This game is VERY gory, you can always find fellow American soldier that has been mutilated in some way, or when you get a headshot, brains go flying everywhere, its a very nice addition. -The zombies are really cool, you can see them walk around stupidly or eating the flesh of it's victim, sometimes they don't take notice of you unless you let out a shot or start running, said zombie will look in your direction and start to run towards you at light speed. they do a good job of being scary, because they can kill you quite easily, and they sometimes come in hordes. Also, you HAVE to shoot them in the head, unless you want to waste all your ammo(which is also very limited) -The controls are easy to get used to and they respond well -You can use a good variety of weapons like the AK 47, shotguns, the rocket launcher is available once in the game. -The graphics aren't bad but could be WAY better. - Voice acting is goodThe Bad: -Its all over way to quickly, It can take you about 6 hours on the hardest difficulty -Sometimes the guns turn quiet or the shots get out of place with the sound -there are only about 10 different zombie models that used too frequently -your allies and soldier enemies are a bit stupid (the zombies are as stupid as any other zombies)In the end this game proved to be a lot of fun while it lasted, it has become my favorite game on the xbox360. I would advise you to at least give it a rent. But I'm shure glad I bought It, and so is gamestop.
Not even worth renting
I really didn't think it was at all possible to create a game as bad as this on a legitimate console. This game has Ps2 graphics and gameplay at best. It is almost like Eidos didn't make any changes to the original one and just figured it would be safe to release it. Hopefully there wasn't too many people on the development team because this game could really hurt them. That is, ofcourse, if it isn't just the original with a few tweaks which it very well could be. The responsiveness of the game is slow. A story line is almost non-existant. The game is not at all fun to play. I would also be really embarrassed to be caught playing it. The only game that i have seen for a next-gen console with graphics this bad was the newest conflict game for 360 but that game was atleast somewhat fun to play, Shellshock is, well to say in the least amount of words, definately the worst game money can afford.
