Rated 9 out of 10 by SupaHype Game is HOT!!!!
This game looked interesting from the early pics and previews I read. Also a Sega fan from way back so that helped too. Then I read the reviews and got a little worried. PLEASE IGNORE THE REVIEWS!! This game is very good. I am about 2 hours in but i can say that this truly is the best hardcore experience i have had on the Kinect so far. The control system mimics real life movements, run when it says run, crouch when it is necessary and a very responsive fight system, even when having a weapon in one hand and using a fist in the other. I truly toggled in giving this game a 10 having difficulty even thinking about what was wrong with it. The only thing I could think of that was a little off was that the "walk" was not always perfectly responsive. But this is a very minor gripe when compared with how much fun I had. This game reminds me of a walking version of House of the Dead, but with interaction with other characters. This is truly a new experience on the Kinect, GET THE GAME.
Rated 8 out of 10 by TechnoWeenie Great Kinect Game but it comes with Glitches
I've been looking at buying Rise of Nightmare since I first bought my Kinect for my 360 and like a lot of hardcore gamers I judged Rise of Nightmare by it's cover. I recommend those of you who can stand playing Kinect and love the Retro feel of games like House of the Dead THIS GAME IS FOR YOU! This game has moment in a horror game that are hard to come by anymore but I picked up this game at my local gamestop (last copy on the self). I put it in and I played for 3hrs straight with taking minimal amount of break time. Although there are Glitches in the Controls, but as long as you have the 10ft "Best" amount of room in your play space this game responsed well and the semi-natural feel to the kinect controls are great. Also this game is the only game I've come across that doesn't hold your hand 95% of the time like most Kinect games do when telling you what to do, Most of the controls work well as long as your semi-smart and passed the 6th grade then you should have no problem. Great Game for Kinect Lovers and Horror fans who want a small workout.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Eman99 Freaking Awsome
In a game market flooded with dance, workout and cheesy kid games we finally get an awsome adult game filled with blood and gore. You fight your way through zombies and undead to save your wife. The controls for this are really great and the kinects tracks almost perfectly. Step foward and you move foward, step back and you walk back. The bigger you step the faster you walk. Turn you shoulders side to side to look around. Put up your dukes and get ready to fight. Punch, swing weapons, and open doors like you would in real life, the kinects tracks it all just right. The graphics are really great and so is the gameplay. It starts off a little slow in the beginning but this gives you some time to get used to the controlls and moving around. Once you're into the game you won't want to turn it off. One great feature of the game is autowalk. If you get turned around or are just feeling a little lazy hold your arm up and you will automatically walk where you need to go. I really can't say enough good thiings about this game I love it and would recommend it to anyone.
Rated 8 out of 10 Similar to Hunter the Reckoning, but for Kinect.
I'm very picky when it comes to xbox games, because I have little time to spend on them. I haven't loved a game like this since Hunter the Reckoning came out on the original X-box. Honestly, though, I almost took Rise of Nightmares back after playing for maybe twenty minutes. It looked like there'd be way too much talking, while I'm sitting. Not what I wanted in a Kinect game! I also had a hard time locking in the controls. I'm glad I was stubborn enough to keep the game and master the movements needed. And by the time you get into the game, you'll wish for that slow stuff again in the beginning just so you can take a breather! You want a workout? This game will do it for you. I'm in good shape, but this game leaves me dripping with sweat. I also like that other than fighting, you also get to figure out puzzles, or figure out what the game wants your character to do. It can be unnerving, but in a good way.
I can only hope that more games like Rise of Nightmares will be made, because they're a heck of a lot more fun than those dancing and adventure/sports games that dominate the Kinect world right now.
Screw Zumba, give me more rpg horror games!
Rated 8 out of 10 by ZeroAngel A MUST have for Gamers who love zombie games!
I played the game for 2 hours or so and loved every minute of it! The game is overall amazing! The music and graphics are overall wonderful. Moving can be rather frustrating because when you turn your shoulders you either do not turn far enough or turn too far. But the auto walk option is great if you get to frustrated and or get stuck because it will show you where you need to go. I love how you open doors, climb ladders, and pull levers like you would actually do in real life. The combat is great I love the idea. You swing it swings where ever you aim to hit them is where he swings. It can be a tad overwhelming when you have several zombies attacking but with the option to actually kick the zombies backwards can help tremendously. I would highly recommend this game to players who love Zombie games or just Horror games in general.
Rated 8 out of 10 by Vedlegion Good underrated game
Rise of Nightmares is a very good game. Sadly under rated. While the Kinect games may not be as perfect as we would like them to be, this one is one people should def. try. The game itself is not supposed to be scary, disturbing maybe. It has some very interesting game mechanics, and it's by far the most realistic game for Kinect I've played. Control wise of course. If you kick with your left foot in real life, your character will do the same. Kick with your right, it'll react the same in game. While many people think that this is just some typical House of the Dead game for Kinect it really isn't. It's def. a game that should be tried out. The music is great, the graphics are not omg epix but they are pretty decent. This is a good game, and trying it out won't hurt. I can't stop playing it, it's quite addictive.
Rated 9 out of 10 by BRET Kick em!
First of all, this a great game, and you enter the world unlike any other. The controls work fine for me, once in awhile you can get stuck, but raise your hand and it will lead you in the correct way. Bashing zombies can be fun, and scary as well. This game made me jump, and scream, it was a total blast. around every corner there could be a monster lurking. There is also parts of the game where you interact with objects. These are cool. you have to pretend to reach your hand in toilet filled with blood, open doors, and many other things. The graphics are solid, no texture popping, no slow down, but people can argue they look "dated". i enjoy them, there reminiscent of Deadly Premonition . The story is intriguing, and cut scenes are seamless throughout the story. This is a great game, and should be owned by all Kinect owners!
Rated 6 out of 10 by Folletti Not bad
First the pros: I loves the faces of the zombies, and they had some fun weapons(Chainsaw, Ice Saw). The story wasn't that great but it was fun(like watching an old school horror movie that charms you). I also love that fact that 360 made a Kinect survival horror game. Great game to play with your friends on a "hang out night".
Now the Cons: The game play can get frustrating. The attacks are very basic, and seem delayed. However, if you hunch a little and swing your right arm back and forth in a rhythmic motion you can dominate. I also found it annoying the way the zombie moved( they had a swagger that seemed like they were feeling themselves up:)).
Even though I don't rate very high, I still believe that it's worth playing and glad it was developed.
Rated 9 out of 10 by Tazra Rise of Nightmares
Old, fat, achy, and really out of shape? Can't dance if your life depended on it? Would much rather dismember the undead instead?
Getting your daily exercise with Rise of Nightmares is like going out to fight zombies with a chainsaw. A lot of fun but probably not the safest workout in the world. It's really easy to get into the game and overextend when punching, kicking, and swinging.
Still, if 'normal' forms of exercise bores you to the point of insanity like it does me, you'll probably take a risk and pick this up anyway. It's not like being overweight and out of shape is any safer. And it's also good for a laugh, just try describing your new 'workout routine' to your family doctor!
