Rated 8 out of 10 by PdxGamer Instant gratification!
Plan and simple, this game is purely for those that want to jump right into a game and destroy, destroy, destroy and get out. If you like Just Cause 2, Crackdown and Mercenaries this is the game for you. If you want a story driven, character driven, deep philosophical, missions that make you call your friends about what just happened type of game then walk away. Prototype 2 is instant gratification for those that want to just beat the flippin tar out of something and walk away. It's really tough to find gamer reviews that target the gamers that just like to play without thinking. I loved Crackdown and Crackdown 2. I played those until I started looking for 'Orbs' in real life and knew I had to quit. Prototype is that sort of game. Just walk into it without thinking and unleash your inner superhero! So, if your not that type of gamer.... DON'T review this game or play it. You will just give the wrong review scores to a game that doesn't cater to your type of needs!!!

To me the game looks awesome. It is not a remake or trying to take alex mercer's place. The first game was good given that it had some glitches. It never took itself seriously it was fun and gave you cool powers and made you laugh. The second game is designed to bring not only new gameplay and progress the story, but to give players a fresh character. Not a replacement or a better character. A fresh character to build on, a man with a new goal of revenge. Alex played his role and was one of the few people that survived the first game. So they needed a way to make him apart of the second game while giving it a fresh spin, so now we have this mystery and a new character with new powers. So quit complaining about the game how it is going to tank cuz of the way they went about it. I can't wait to play. It looks awesome and I am just as excited about this one as I was about the first one. So don't hate on the game cuz its different, It is new and it looks promising.
Rated 9 out of 10 by commandoprojoe simply stunning
i had played the original prototype and will admit i was worried about the dramatic turn to creating a new main character than turning mercer into the enemy but after seeing it in action i have to admit they had soemhow pulled it off. the combat makes you feel nearly godlike and the story it much more griping than mercers case of amnesia. to sum the story up you are a man who has lost his family to alex mercer and the viral outbreak and now you are ionfected with mercer's strand and plan to use his own powers to defeat him. now instead of havign half a million upgrades to the point of confusion like in P1 you collect mutations that you can bacicaly make heller stronger, faster or more defensive. hes entirely moldable in your hands. this generaly makes him almost entirely what you want. id recomend this to any 1 who enjoys a open world and being generaly a powerhouse. and with the 20$ off its even more of an inittiative to buy this game.
Rated 9 out of 10 by skittlezzz Prototype, New and Improved
Prototype 2 is what the first game should have been. It has a solid story, more powerful weapons, and it's easy to manuveur around the city. The new main character, James Heller, can be annoying with his wannabe "hardcore" attitude, but he's way more stronger and funner to play with than Mercer. The story in this game is less confusing than the last game. Everything is distinct. The fighting system is more easier to use, and there aren't missles hitting you out of no where. The missions are very repetitive, and on most missions, you're just doing the same thing over and over again. Most of the time, you'll find yourself in disguise as a Blackwatch trooper infiltrating a military base just to destroy every thing on the inside. The graphics haven't improved at all. The upgrading system is now more limited than it was in the first game, but you get over it. Although the game is highly repetitve, it's still fun to free roam and go around killing people. If there is going to be a third Prototype, I hope that they fix all the problems that there were in this game and make the game much more fun to play.

Prototype 2 is everything I thought it would be and more. It took some time to get use to the movement controls because it is kind of reversed but once you get the hang of it, u fly. The combat is more fluid than before and the powers are easier to use. Everything u do with your powers are a joy to watch. I found myself laughing at how awesome it was. The collectibles are easier to keep track of and each one reward u with EXP and when u complete a set you get a mutation. The story had a few twists and the variety of enemies is awesome. You watch your character grown and get new powers at every turn. When you reach the final area I was amazed by the landscape and graphics. The game was really well done but some people may have trouble replaying it. But for a casual gamer looking for fun and laughs it is a must play. The story and final battle are very rewarding.
Rated 9 out of 10 by TheCritic666 It was amazing but it had one flaw
I picked this up on launch day and i was very impressed! One of the best games i have ever played. The powers are the same with a new power and DLC that has already been announced that will give you a new power. But one thing (this isn't the flaw) I was really hoping they would give you armor like in Prototype 1 but they give you shields instead(which are still pretty cool). The Upgrading Sysytem on here is much better then on P1. You can also upgrade your powers like Blade,Claw,Hammerfist,etc... If you want to make a Ultimate Prototype then search for all collectibles and do all the side missions. Now for the flaw, I have beaten the game, have all the upgrades, and found all the collectibles in just a matter of 18 hours (a majority for the missions), and after I did that the game just got really boring and If they had just released the Radnet challenges all at once instead of releasing them on specific dates i probably wouldnt be as bored with it as i am now. And if your an Achievement Hunter, If you want an easy 1,000 GS, this is for you but the game was still very good with a strong ending, I didnt wind paying $60 for it

Well, not playing the first of this series, I really had no knowledge of the storyline or anything behind this game. The game intro is kind of lawn and drug out I almost got frustrated within the opening intro and was close to shutting it off and sending it back to gamefly. I lasted through it and boy I'm glad I did.
The combat sequencing is very nice compared to some other melee fighting games I have played. Good character movement and combos. The story I picked up on after the first few missions and I understood what I was doing and why. The choice of weapons is nice and the scenery is ok. I guess the original game was based in NYC too So it would have been nice to base it elsewhere but idk.
The graphics are good, some areas in the lairs could use a bit more lighting I personally think but overall the game is good. It had me hooked from the first fight sequence till where I am at now. I am 6 achievements from being done and around 93% complete with the game. If I would have read the achievements list prior to starting the game, I would have started off in hard mode so I didn't have to beat the game twice.
Decent game though.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Coolmangamer165 Fun as heck
this game you are James Heller. Like in the first game you get powers. you get better powers. The power that I like is Tendrills.
Rated 9 out of 10 by BigD66 If The Hulk and Venom had a baby
First and foremost, this is a really fun game to play. I've heard some people gripe about the story, but all in all it's actually pretty good too. As a sandbox game it gives you a very destroyed New York city. You play James Heller, Alex Mercer released a virus that made people into zombie things. They killed your wife and daughter. You mad bro? Answer. YES. So you set off to just murder him. Then he shows up tells you hes framed and gives you powers like his. Now you are crazy shapeshifting, superpowered, claw, tendril, blade monster. HAVE FUN! The controls are tight and action fast paced. You have option too, say there are a room of guys. You must kill said guys do to evil guy stuff. You can sneak around and pick them off one by one or just slice and dice them outright. It's up to you. They packed a lot of content in this game as well. All in all it's a creat game. Replay value is a little short though. I blazed through the game on Hard in under 4 hours. Once you become fully upgraded, it's a blast to just create havoc. Blackwatch is pretty evil and you are pretty good at killing evil. It's great. Play it! Claws and tendrils are the best. Black hole attack FTW.
