Operation Flashpoint: Red River
One of the more realistic shooters out there.
This game takes a step towards realism compared with other modern first person shooters. You can die from a single bullet, and any little mistake can end you. This is what real life would mostly be like, but does it make a good game?
Yes and no. This game is decent, but it could have been so much better. Some of the larger flaws are the amount of walking you have to do to get from point A to point B. This might be realistic, but its not fun. Also the amount of dialogue is this game is over the top... and it all comes from one guy who says a cuss word at least twice in every sentence. Not for young kids. The amount of time you sit in the back of a Hummer listening to this guy talk is very frustrating.
The graphics and environments are very well gone a one of the games strong points. The tactics and strategy required a nice refreshment from the mess of run and gun games that exist. The co-op is also a nice boon and adds a lot of fun to the game. The controls are also pretty decent.
Overall the game is decent and is worth a play if you are looking for a game with a buddy. But don't expect the best game ever.
Not an Enjoyable Game to Play
The AI is stupid and game play is frustrating! For example(s): you tell your team to Hold Position and they continually roam around. And during battles they would 'roam around' into the firing line and get killed. Then when attempting to heal teammates they would not stay still long enough to finish so you had to chase after them. Then sometimes when teammates entered into a house, they would stay there, no matter what commands you gave them. They would not move! Then when any one of your team were killed and you had to get back on the Humvee for the next part you would just sit there, getting sworn at, waiting from them (the killed teammate) to get on, which doesn't happen so you would have to replay the mission or start over them the last check point and make sure no one dies. And Finally, there was too much swearing. Some swearing would have been acceptable, but not on every cut screen and every other word or when giving your team commands. It was quite annoying!
Excited for a sequal to an already good game
I really enjoyed Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. It was fun to sit back think things out and then watch everything come together. Now i know many people do not like this game and thats fine with me its a game. I am also happy that they are letting you chose your loadout which is going to be really cool because i didnt like not having optics on my weapons especially at the distances this game requires so im going to be sure that i got some sort of scope with any gun i got and also looking forward to the improvements on the AI and also being able to fight some Taliban is always good. All in all i cant wait for this game to come out
Great for some not for all
I have been a member of the Army for over 18 years and I have always wanted a game that is tactically sound that lives up to "real world' missions. For the reason above that is why I said "great for some not for all". This game is great for any person who likes a FPS that is built around realism. If you are the type of person that will not buy any game unless it is like MW2/Call of Duty series then rent this game. If you are a person that likes the PC games BF: 1942, BF 2, and like console games like Rainbow Six series then BUY THIS GAME. The graphics are great but not perfect, the sound is realistic, the game play is for the people I talked about and the missions can be hard, and it has great lasting appeal. The single player portion of the game is fun and you could play it several times. The online multiplayer is based on co-op which is better with friends or people who enjoy/know military tactics. The A.I. is not perfect but gives you a true diverse challenge. There are already two new maps available for dlc and they are great too. If you are not sure about this game then research it and at least rent or borrow it. Give this game a chance even if you are more of a "run n gun" Call of Duty type player. You might be pleasantly surprised and get introduced to another type of game that we need to support so developers take the time to give us a realistic and fun game.
Looks Awesome But Not as Realistic as OPFPDR
i played the first one and i still play it today i love the frist one a lot of people dont play it but it's so much fun there is more combat in that game then any other game i have played and this new one is gonna be great better graphics sound better AI's enemies are smarter so it will be cool. i was upset thought on the count that you cant fly helicoptors witch really sucks since Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising was like the best game for a helicopter the controls were amazing for it and was the beest game for flying a helicoptor but they said you still get ground vehicles so i hope that means tanks and APC's and not just humv's. the realism is still there but not as much like when you go to switch to your second gun its like COD were it just kinda apperas there, i kinda wish they would have left is like dragon rising realism but a little diffrent but thats not gonna stop me from getting this game its gonna be tons of fun becasue my 2 friends are getting this game with me so we already have a full sqaud oh most and cant wait for the survival mode.
NOT for Call of Duty fans, tactic & squad based
Although it has no online multiplayer like it's prequel, Red River is still a great game for anyone that enjoys tactical, squad-based shooters. This is much more tactical than Battlefield, and should NOT be played by anyone that has Call of Duty has their top games list. This is a shooter based on story, like Halo, and has the tactical slowness that Battlefield fails to offer. As stated, this is a VERY SLOW GAME! You will spend 30-70 minutes on campaign missions, which are all four player co-op, and a slightly shorter amount of time on the co-op mini-missions. You have a 4 person squad and, when not playing with other players, you may customize the loadouts, perks, and classes of your squadmates. Missions are very long; this is because of long, drawn out convoy rides and defense objectives, where you stay more in one place than you do sprinting through falling buildings and burning vehicles, like in Call of Duty's adrenaline junky styled campaign. Bullet drop is prevelant in the game, making long range engagements either impossible or extremely difficult, unless your a sniper. The graphics are slightly outdated, and so is the audio for squad commands, but this game is still my favorite shooter out their, because it's not competitive, it's not stat based, and it's not level based. It is a tactic, slow, realistic shooter meant for hardcore fans of the series or the genre. As said before, if Call of Duty is your favorite series, this game is not for you.
I've read on multiple websites that they have started the AI system from scratch and have build a completely new one, on top of that they have come up with a new interface for your commands, now they have a back arrow so you don't have to let go of your bumper. Also i have read that they have introduced the EGO engine which in faster and more reliable than the old engine on Dragon Rising. Finally they have created an interface for creating classes and upgrading your weapons, which if you're like me, you've been asking for that sense Dragon Rising. All of these changes are going to make for one awesome of a game and I know that i will buy it.
OFP red river
its ganna be good its way more realistic than the first with better graphics. if your not in to realistic games than its not for you. I recommend this game to any one who likes realistic games.
Alot Of Fun
I loved Flashpoint Dragon Rising so Im assuming that red river will be good. True you have to use your brain and cant go busting in guns blazing, like every other FPS out there, but still a fun game if you like to think, plan and execute missions. Not for novice idiots who dont know anything about realistic combat. Using your squad, and support elements is a must. recomend getting dragon rising and trying it out first to see if you will like the style of game play.
Great Marine Simulator!
i really enjoyed every mission of this game. they lasted about an hour each , but you can play on a harder experience and each mission would last more. This game was pretty realistic, when you get shot you would have to patch yourself up.likewise with a teammate, you give commands because you are squad leader. and if you go down, you can call your squad to help you up. the guns are also realistic same with the recoil. gun jams, and airstrikes. every mission you do you always are introduced into the action by a Humvee or helicopter and when you Finnish the mission you are taken out by a Humvee or helicopter. very good game, would recommend to all my friends who enjoy marine simulators...
