Typical cliched western...
This game disappointed me on a couple of counts... First, graphically it looked like a PS2 game, not a 360 game. Not enough was done with the 360's hardware to make this look and feel playable... Other than the horrible graphics, the targeting system is almost broken. The only way to shoot anything effectively is to use "quick draw" which isn't always available. Hand to hand fighting is too easy, and ranged combat is almost impossibly frustrating. Also, it should not take six bullets to kill a person, I don't care if it's a video game or not. Throughout this game I was constantly distracted by the terrible graphics, and it took away from anything positive the game had to offer. It was a disappointmen all around. It would have been better if the gameplay had been inventive in any way, but it felt like I was trapped in an Eastwood western. Oh, look, I killed an injun, did it with a hooker (which is implied by a cutscene) and protected a stagecoach. So cliched it hurt. Two thumbs way down.
Cowboys and Indians done right.....
When I first heard about this game, I thought "a game about the wild west.... could be intresting" Now that Red Dead Redemption came out, cowboys just sooo much cooler. I bought the game, and believe me, this is worth the money. This game is extremely difficult from time to time (the boss battles will take a while) For example, in one point of the game, you have to take down waves of Indians and secure a bridge. This would be easier if the Indains didn't have flaming arrows and aimed the black powder kegs that are scattered throughout the level. On top of that, you have to protect the bridge workers that are trying to cross and finish the bridge. The controls are pretty good, but they can be frustrating at times. If you are person whoi plays COD and Halo a lot (like myself), you may find yourself going back to the basic COD controls during times of difficulty. A really cool feature that is in the game is called "Quickdraw". This ability allows you to slow down time and drop enemies with your pistols. Not only that, but every time that you get a kill, with or without the Quickdraw, you are filling the Quickdraw meter at the bottom of the screen! The graphics for the game are decent. This game if pretty old, so the graphics were revolutionary at the time. But looking at the graphics now, they are pretty bad. The headshots are pretty graphic, and so are the scaplings. explosions and the dismemberments. The interface is pretty self explanitory, you have a health bar and a bottle whiskey. When your health bar is almost empty, take a shot from your flask to refill your health. on the other side of the screen, you have a picture of your gun, how much ammo you have left, and how much Quickdraw you have. When you get shot, you can tell wion you were shot from. The length of the game is pretty short, but there are so many side missions and things to explore, you can keep playing for hours on end. Besides that, you can always run around and blow somebody's head off with a shotgun or be a bounty hunter and get PAID to kill! The sound in the game is nothing to get worked up about. Its has its advantages during firefights and explosions. But besides that, there is nothing to really say. The storyline for this game is by far the best one I have seen in years. You play as Colton White who realizes that the man tha raised him since the beginning, Ned White, is not really his father. He then goes to Dodge to find answers from a lady named Jenny. This is all I can say without spoiling the story for anyone. In then end, this game is amazing. If you are a fan of shooters and games in general, keep on rocking and buy this game today!!!!!!!!!!!!
this game is total awsesomeness. only thing its missing in online.
So, gun is a fun game which I just got today. For length I put an 8 cause I haven't finished it yet the graphics are okay but still try to remember that this game was brought over from an original xbox title . For content I'd say 12 and up I'm almost 13 and the only inappropriate part so far was the w..... house part but it was maybe a pg-13 part because they don't show anything just shows empty rooms and people are running around. It's pretty violent but thats okay for 12 year olds .language I was listening to my Ipod a little but overall it was what you'd here in a middle school some s---'s and d---'s and other words but okay I guess just don't repeat the words . You also drink out of a flask to get health and some social drinking .Overall awesome game defiant buy.
ANOTHER FANTASTIC WESTERN THAT WAS SADLY OVERLOOKED
How did this game not sell well is beyond me. Gun has everything you could ask for in a game. 1) Takes place in the VERY NEGLECTED, though riped with richness, wild west2) Characters that are so instantly likeable (good guys) as well as hated (bad guys)3) GREAT STORY. When you learn who Colton White is you'll be in for a HUGE shock. Has to be said again, GREAT STORY.4) Music, sound effects, voice acting...ALL FANTASTIC.5) Control's that are easy to learn and feel spot on.6) Graphics (while not pushing the 360) are still crisp, clean, and very detailed.Gun has you playing as Colton White. A man who's thirsty for vengence and looking for the men responsible for murdering his father. While the story may be simple, the further you play the more you realize just how much incredible depth there is to it all. ALOT happens on Colton's journey and it's one of the best story's that i have had the pleasure of seeing (as well as playing) in quite sometime. The only negative I can possibly see in this game is its short length. You'll be done with it within 6-8 hours at the most. Those who are craving for an incredibly solid 3rd person action/adventure with a unique and underappreciated setting really owe it to themselves to check out GUN.
this game is just like red dead redemption and might be better but is still one of the best western games around
To good but way to fast.
i Was really hyped up after it came out because of red dead revolver but when i played it i was sorta disapointed . the story was good. the grafics wernt bad but the story went way to fast and didnt take long to beat. once it was over you ran around and were not able to do much but sight see and shoot random bandits. Great for a time killer . amazing for western fans but to short for action packed people.
This game is great. It has everything: action, drama, and mischief. You go from costume to costume as you travel deeper in the game, and you learn more about Cole's past. The gameplay is nice, and the graphics are great. I recommend this game to all gamers. Once you begin to play the game it is as if you can not stop. It puts you at the edge of your seat the entire time of gameplay. The story is long and I mean semi-real long. It isn't just, beat the story game over, it's beat the story and do almost countless side-missions or play some of story play, side missions or beat everything. Even when you beat the story and all the side missions you can still ride around and do whatever you wish to do: get in bandit brawls outside of town when they try to mug you or simply cause an uprising in town. You name it, this game has got it.
Epic Story Not So Epic Scope
The great western epics of Clint Eastwood and John Wayne had two major aspects: epic scope of setting and epic story. Gun has the story down pretty well, it's enjoyable and easy to follow with the classic themes and tropes of western's. The setting is less impressive unfortunately. While the map is of decent size and has a variety of tasks and npcs, it only takes a few minutes to make it from one end to the other, and the entire game can be finished in around eight hours without doing any side missions. The gameplay and graphics are a little above average, the combat can become very difficult when tuned up (just as it should). All in all this is a good way to get into the shoes, or boots, of a cowboy and enjoy an old fashioned, hardened and grizzled story.
Breath of fresh air..
In a gaming universe where space-marines and World War II heroes are your standard protagonist, Neversoft’s GUN centers its story on a revolver touting, quick-draw marksmen cowboy, Colton “Cole” White, and if that isn’t a breath of fresh – you most likely have an addiction to “recycled” ideas. While Gun shows its age in more ways than one – there is something truly compelling about playing a dust covered, cowboy hat wearing, horse riding gun slinger in a “sandbox” western. While a hand full of ideas here are standard “sandbox” fare in 2009, it all seems fresh and interesting in the game’s setting. Condensed and short in length isn’t a bad thing for Gun. I enjoyed the experience overall with [its] traditional, yet, epic story and was not effected by the dated graphics and character animations. Gunning down wanted fugitives, defending towns from bandits, hunting bison, riding horses, and taking care of the rowdy towns-folk while the sheriff is away are just a few things to do when you’re not on the main quest to find out “the truth” and add many more hours to gameplay. Whether you’re a fan of “westerns” or not – Gun should not be overlooked. It’s a unique theme in the “sandbox” genre that I’d really like to see more of. If you’re anticipating “Red Dead Redemption”, this bargain bin title should hold you over the wait. (B) -Jeffrey d
