finally a great racing game!
GRID is a cross between Burnout and gran turismo. I hadnt heard of this game until i saw it in stores. after the complete let down of burnout paradise,i wondered if there would be a new great racing game. well, look no further, this is it! the only thing this game lacks is customization but I dont buy racing games for customization. I buy them based on game play ,controls, and graphics. This is a 10 out of 10 in those departments. ive been playing this game for 3days and im excited to get home to play it again. One of the best features is the instant replay feature. ever crashed bad ,right before you are about to win? instead of having to start the race over, you can rewind a little bit to renegotiate that turn you missed and still win! it is in no way an easy game like need for speed. the AI racers are no joke. in need for speed and burnout, getting 1st place is a piece of cake. this game is no walk in the park there. the challenge alone makes this game intense. you wont be dissapointed!
The best racing game I have ever played
So I went to best buy yesterday and after reading a lot of positive reviews decided to pick this game up. I play my games on my 37" Samsung LCD HDTV and... WOW... this game is absolutely beautiful. Not only is it beautiful, it's amazingly smooth. The racing gameplay is the best I have ever experienced. It is fast, but also controlled, and the crashes are amazing. Although it doesn't have as much variety in cars and customization abilities the quality of the game makes up for any issues. If you want the best racing game available, it has to be Grid. After playing this game my next purchase will definitely be DIRT since they were made by the same people. Really, there isn't a single bad thing I can say about this game. I don't play games online, I enjoy the games for the actual game, so I haven't tested that out. But this game is AMAZING! 9.5/10, it's not a 10 just because I want to leave hope that one day there will be a better racing game. But I dont see it coming anytime soon.
Grid was super awesome. The graphics were as good as crysis and the racing was the best of the century. It definatly beats forza and GranTurismo. The cars are the only thing that really set the game back. You dont get to customize them by putting on new parts of anything which isnt very fun but you do get to make up a team paint sceme which goes on all your cars, as well as hire and fire teammates who race in every race with you. The game is generally challenging but only if you race on a higher setting rather than the easiest. The career is also rather short but if you have LIVE it is so much better as you race with other people from around the world and you can see their country's flag next to their name. Grid also combined the best elements of racing with 45 different cars which all perform differently than the other and are put to the test in endurance races like Le Mans, as well as demolition derby and drifting. Touge Events are also new and challenge you head to head.
Rent first and practice
I tried grid because it looked like a nice game and it was pretty well detailed. I tried some tracks to see how it handled and I keep on wreaking into the walls and other cars and that was with TC on. So I raced some more on other tracks and finally got the hang of it after an hour of playing around. I started to play the real game and it was awesome how you get to start out in a nice viper. After I got my car I wanted to tune it out (body kits, hoods, spoilers, etc.) but I couldn't, kinda made me a little mad, but the cars looked cool anyway so I didn't care that much. Another bad thing is that you have to drive with a partner who some times cant drive that good and if a miracle happens they might beat you (never did). That is one thing that got me mad because I would win the race but he would be in 5th or 6th place which made me lose. But I would still recommend this game to anyone who likes racing for the sport not just to customize the cars to nice rides. Like the headline says rent first and practice. Practice A LOT.
Save your money and buy a real car!
If I wanted a realistic, to the point only a pro can stay on the road, game. I would have bought a Mustang and raced it into everything I could crash into. Really though, the game tries to be cool. I like to race in a video game that isn't "reality". So, buy it if you like to crash and lose! My first impressions were good as the graphics were very good, but the first time racing sucked. I like to win. I don't race to lose and if you crash, guess what? So as quickly as I decided to try it, I am taking it back. Glad I bought it used. At least I tried it twice. The controls are twitchy to say the least, and temperamental. If you lose control the field rolls by you. If you try to drive 'safely' they leave you behind, and perchance your leading. Don't worry the game cheats and will find a way to send you into the wall. What a lousy game? Save your money. This game sucks. If it wasn't so 'easy' to wreck it might be more enjoyable. Nice graphics though, too bad not good enough to make up for the fact this game, oh did I already say it, SUCKS!
this is one of the best racing games of the year. This game beat NFS by far. IT has amazing graphics and cars are relistic looking and handling. If you liked forza and pgr then this is the game for you. It is as intense as forza but just a little easier. And has great real life crash effects. There is no customization but the game make up for it in the crazy good looking cars that are there. The tracks are great and always surprise you what is around the next turn. For all those hardcore racing junkies the difficulty at its highest is insanse. The achievements are great and every loadding screen they give you an update. Real time updates on crashes and spinouts as well. This game is to hard to put donw. Once you start you wont want to stop. Also great respect system. I think it is better them pgr and forza. This is definitly the racing game of the year. I recomemned this to all. Again GREAT GREAT GAME you got to buy it
Grid needs a nail in it's tire
I picked up GRID a few days ago because I've been aching for a good racing game. All of the reviews throughout the net were positive, however in hindsight, I wonder if it was just to pay lipservice to Codemasters. The graphics in this game are amazing, but I really wish Codemasters would have invested as much in the controls as they did making the cars photo-realistic. To say they're dodgy would be an understatement. Even with all of the driver assist options turned on, you still will over steer into a barrier or the gravel. The reason why I give the game a 10 for challenge is because just learning how to steer without crashing makes the game difficult. In addition there are no real tips or a tutorial for beginners, so expect a lot of aggravation and frustration since you really need to learn as you go. I would definitely recommend picking this up, but if you do.. just be prepared to crash a lot.. and I mean A LOT.
Great Career Mode
In all I would say this has the be my favorite racing game that I've ever played. The graphics are great, the sound is very realistic and I love it. But, the my favorite thing about this game is how the career is set up. You have the choice of either racing for your own team or contracting for another. You also have the sponsors that make your car and team look like a real one. The cars are awesome with classics and new ones. The only downsides to this game are the lack of cars, they have some great ones but not that many. They also don't have to many tracks just different versions of them. If only some of these other simulators had a real racing team mentality I think that many games could be just as good as this one. In all I could say that they could improve on the game with more tracks and cars but this has to be the best out of them all. To conclude I'm just looking forward to a new sequal very soon.
The new standard for racing sims
The game is stunning, visually appealing in every aspect. The tracks look clean, and you can actually see the paint on the pavement. The scenery and the frame rate are top notch, never a noticeable slow down anywhere in the game. I've yet to see any glitches in the game and I'm about 3/4 of the way through it. Crash sequences are spectacular and the damage to the cars is very realistic. Probably the most innovative racing sim of 2008, if you enjoy racing fast cars but can't afford them, play this game. All the fastest cars in the world are what is available to drive in this game, and tons of race modes. Racing games that look and play this well are hard to come by, Codemasters really outdid themselves with Grid, amazing racer. This game is the result of people who actually test their game and perfect it, many game developers skip this step, not this game, well worth the edit bucks.
GRID = one of the best racing games.
I just bought GRID yesterday and i am already on season 4 of the GRID world mode. This game is amazing. The track variety and racing variety is very good. From Stock Car races to Downhill Drifts. This game has it all. I like the team dynamic of the game. You can choose the paint, number of sponsors on your cars. I would have liked aero and engine modifications but apparently you cannot do that. You can hire drivers and the more sponsors you have the more money you get. I got 45,000 on a race just from sponsors alone. The cars don't really have a difference in control. They all pretty much handle the same. Drifting is my favorite part of the game. The combo system works really well and the structure is similar to the old Need for Speed: Underground drift races. Anyone who likes racing games should pick this up. I put it right behind Forza Motorsport & Midnight Club.
