Golden Farce
Okay, so I knew going in that this game was only an appetizer while I waited for other titles to be released that I'd previously reserved. However, I was very disappointed with the overall game. This travesty doesn't even come close to the 16-bit predecessor. What is the point of having these consoles that can handle much more than what they put into this garbage if they just won't utilize them to their fullest capacity? I can't even go into all of the weaknesses in this game. I'd rather play old-school console classics than play this game again.

Ehhhhh it's alright.
The game play is fun and everything. But sometimes the controls are hard to do. The graphics are good and the story as well. But you die easily sometimes.

Sad Sequel
Sorry to disappoint you if you are a die hard fan from the past. This game falls short of its legacy. Howevr i will admit that the beasts in this game are amazing i will applaud the creaters for that. Graphics were accepptable and storyline was tasteful, but that's kind of were it ends. I played this for about a week and found that most of the combat is done on foot and at time it feels like your playing simon says. I havent played this on Live yet beacuse I lost alot of motivation to play this game. If they added more elaborate combos, more life for beasts, up the difficulty alittle, and made more options to a local multiplayer i would love to replay this game. As for right now, rent the game to see if you like it. I would not recommend buying this game if you are a big fan like i was. You will be dissapointed.

While It Isnt Great, Its Also Not A Failure
Personally II think Secret Level did a fine job with Beast Rider (not to mention Iron Man). Bottom line is if your interested in a game, PLAY IT. I'll be the first to admit that while Golden Axe Beast Rider isn't a phenomenal update/retelling of the arcade classic, IT IS a good and fun romp through one of Sega's most beloved franchises. Nothing outstanding, but its well done. Lets start with the obvious. There is NO MULTIPLAYER CO-OP in Beast Rider. Is it the end of the world because of it? No. Secret Level stated from the very beginning of development that it was not going to have co-op, so for the "professional reviewers" stating that its inexcusable and have negative remarks because of that aspect are talking a bunch of nonsense, because THEY KNEW, OR SHOULD HAVE ALREADY KNOWN FROM THE VERY BEGINNING that it was a single player experience. You play as Tyris Flaire, one of the 3 selectable characters (and the only female) from the original Golden Axe. Story wise, you have to defeat main baddie Death Adder from trying to rule the world, take revenge on all the deaths of your sisterhood, and rescue the dragon titan (whose power Adder wants to use to help him rule) from imprisonment . Along the way you'll meet up with Gilius Thunderhead (the dwarf warrior) and Ax Battler (the barbarian), who will both aid you in the quest to defeat Adder. Game play wise, it's really a straight up hack and slasher. X is your heavy attack, An is quick attack, Y is to jump, and B is to use your magic. Luckily it has a bit of a depth thanks to the parry/dodge system. If an enemy is about to attack and has an orange glow then you have to dodge (LB), if he has a blue glow then you parry (RB), if it's a green glow you can either parry or dodge, your choice. It's a lot like the game Heavenly Sword (PS3), so if your familiar with that then you'll feel right at home here. Once a parry/dodge has been done you get a chance to counter attack and deal more damage to your foe. Tyris also has your fire magic that (like the original) is upgradable. The magic effects are all cool and good looking when activated. All in all the fighting system, while simple, is nonetheless good. It's especially satisfying when you chop off arms, heads, and torso's from their bodies. Yeah, the game is pretty bloody. The beasts that you meet and control during your quest are very fun to use. I can understand perfectly why their life drains when using their special moves, the game would be WAY TOO EASY if it didn't, so I dont think that was a bad design choice at all. Weird? Maybe, but understandable. You have 5 beasts to control and they all feel completely different from one another. I also like the fact that they all really do play a big part of the game (like the original), and all 5 feel like their own character not just the same beast with a new coat of skin. Music and sound effects fit the game incredibly well. It really does feel like something out of a fantasy world. Voice overs are also good. Tyris sounds like the way a strong and fearless amazon would, monsters sound like...well monsters, and the beasts also have their own personal grunts, moans, and screams all which sound good. Graphics while not pushing the 360, are clean and crisp. Tyris's model looks very nice, as well as the beasts themselves. The world/locations also have a good look and feel to them. If your gonna go for the full 1000 points...good luck. Beast Rider has to be one of the hardest games on the 360 to get the full 1000. The battlers blade achievements are INSANELY HARD, you have to beat every single level without taking a single hit. And the achievements for getting a ranking of A+ on every level are just as hard and annoying. Again, THE ACHIEVEMENTS ARE SUPER HARD. Other than that , I was pretty content with the way Beast Rider turn out. Secret Level did a commendable job, and if we (hopefully) get a sequel, I'll be the 1st one to pick it up.

Great Game
I am not sure what game other people are playing here but Golden Axe: Beast Rider is a lot of fun. This isn't the old hack-n-slash it was before. You can hack away if you want but you won't get far (maybe frustrated at your lack of gaming skill and spitting out a bad review *wink*). You need to time it for the big moves and they look awesome to watch. You can string out vicious kills that look like the finishing moves in Mortal Kombat. They have yet to get old to watch either! The beast riding is really cool also. They all have a special ability and a basic attack and are almost as entertaining to watch slaughter enemies as it is watching Tyris do it herself. I am only about 8 hours in at this point but loving it so far. This is NOT a below par game by any stretch of the imagination though.

Golden Axe this is NOT!
I'm a huge Golden Axe fan so I was eagerly awaiting this title. I owned all three GA games on the Genesis and I have a full size Golden Axe arcade machine in my house. This game was an EXTREME let down. Yes the gore is good, the graphics are pretty cool but it stops there. The control is horrible while riding the beasts and the parry/dodge to counterattack is complete crap. Golden Axe tries to force the player to either dodge of parry any attack in order to kill the enemy. It take three times as long to do it normally which I could live with except that the control is executed very poorly. I'm going to return this game and get Saints Row 2 or Far Cry 2. I thought Id give a great franchise name like Golden Axe a shot in the dark... all i got was shot down. SHAME ON the makers of this game.

Bad Controls, Camera
In my opinion, do not bother with this game. I was really looking forward to it, but fact is, the controls are horrible. My beast never faced the right direction and it was very frustrating trying to get it lined up for an attack as I continued to get pummeled by enemies. And I don't understand how easy it is for my character to get knocked off the beast when it was so difficult to get the enemy knocked off theirs. And the camera! Don't even get my started. I was fighting the camera to get a view of the battle more than I was fighting the enemies. And the lack of upgrading weapons and armor in the story mode really gave the game a lack of depth - along with the lack of ability to play other characters from the original Golden Axe. I wish I had seen my own review before I went into the store and saved *edit*. I will not be finishing the game.

bigtime bust
After this long wait, the only thing to tell you is that this game is a complete bust. I've been excited about this game ever since i heard it was going to come out. I loved the golden axe series for the genesis, but this game isn't even worth ** dollars let alone **. Graphics and sound are above average. After that, it has a rating of three across the board. What ever happened to excellent co-op games? Doesn't anyone have friends come over and game anymore? I can't believe this isn't co-op. The story line stinks, the animals are useless, and the controls are worse than conan. Don't waste your money buying this. Heck, with the cost of renting games i can't even recommend that either. This game is short and stupid. Sega really dropped the ball. What am i saying? Sega has been dropping the ball for quite some time now. The good old days for sega are behind them and we should remember that before we drop ** dollars on a piece of junk game.

EXCELLENT!!!
This game has it all: a hot heroine (i love games with them as the lead character ), fun combat, monsters and A LOT of gore! I don't care if it has multi-player or not, as long as the campaign is long and fun. I am not sure just how long it is, because i have not gotten to the end yet, but it is fun, and the graphics make it cool! This is the first of a ton of awesome games coming out for the 360 in the next few months, and i plan on playing them all, but i will be playing Golden Axe Beast Rider over and over again! WOW! I don't know why there is very little hype about this title, because it sure can hold its own along with the best of them. I think it was a great idea to focus on Tyris and not the other two, because, like i said, a hot girl is more fun to play as than a guy.
