Game of Thrones
For people who are looking at this and dont know what game of thrones is, it is a critically acclaimed book series and an epic hbo show set in a mideval fantasyesq era, this looks pretty good, i can't wait and i suggest that everyone watches the show and reads the books it's pretty good, i havent read the books myself but i have watched season one of the show and i can say this it is not for kids, definetly adult oriented and super epic, with that said i can't wait to see how this ties in with the series
Game of Thrones is a role playing story game of it
The main focus for one on this game should be this, it's not a graphics, high action game, but a story that you play out, that completely adds to both the series and the books. If your looking for a fast action, hack and slash, this is not it. On its own it is still a very good game, with plenty of codexs to fill you in on what is going on in both as well. The graphics are decent, the game play is fun, but it doesn't take long to understand. It is actually sort of a live action turn based system, which I loved. It makes you plan you next few moves out. If your on the easy mode, you dont really need to focus too much and plan. Haven't beaten the game yet, but I felt people are complaining about it not even coming close to comparing to Skyrim and Dragon Age, but nowhere does it claim to be anything similar to these games. Game of Thrones is a role playing story game of its own, and its fun.
Not what I thought
Although the premise of the game is not lost to me, there is too much dialogue, and not enough action.
A normal game
This game has early xbox graphics, LOTS of talking, and a difficult fightng system to master. But really it's not a bad game, we're just really used to top notch games like skyrim and mass effect but not all games are like that. Now that the top notch producers released all of their stuff lower budget games may start poping up here and there so if a big developer doesn't make the game cut it some slack. Plus this game wasn't all that bad. Once you master the combat system it becomes very effective, and the story is great especialy if your a fan of Game of Thrones. Also there is alot of talking in the book so there obviously would have to be in the game to make sense and be acurate. Give this game a shot (buy it used), and if you don't like it just return it, you won't loose anything, but you might gain something.
For the right crowd...
Yes the graphics and animation arnt that great, yes there is alot of talking, but lets start with the basics. First off your playing "Game of Thrones" and if you know the series its not based around combat, but more of actually playing the game of thrones. The combat is like Dragon Age Origins, with the same basic customization. The sound and music is actually good, granted the voice actors dont really do the characters much justice. The graphics arnt what should drive a gamer to stop playing a game. With all honesty I think they did a good job creating an atmosphere especially in the North along the Wall. You feel the dread and gloomyness that every ranger of the Nights Watch feels as they patrol the forests. The game is slow in the beginning, but helps you understand the different personalities of Mors and Alester. You slowly begin to see how thier two stories intertwine with each other and how they actually make sense to the TV series and books. The story is what keeps you going to the end. This is by far not a game for everyone, especially people looking for a unique combat system. Id recommend this game to a small crowd of people who are fans of the books and/or tv series as you do feel as your being emerged into the world from the stories.
One of the Best Ideas EVER!
I love Game of Thrones and just finished the HBO series for the first time. I'm currently reading through the series and I have to say, if this game comes anywhere close to the detail Martin presents in his books and the originality, intensity, and turmoil presented in both...this is going to be a game that I'm never going to stop loving.
Most of the time TV shows turned games would be a bad idea, but this is not the same story line. George R.R. Martin wrote a parallel story line just for the game. And Atlus is not a bobo game developer, they make great games. I think since it is a parallel story and not the same one as the TV show will give the developers the ability to make a truly great game because they will have enough creative freedom to do so.
Best Book=Best Game?
If the game is anywhere near as good as the books I will not be coming out of my room for a very long time. All I can say is Thank you God.
not great but not bad
This game is not for everyone. If you are a true fan of the books you will enjoy this game. However, this is a story game like Dragon Age origins. The fighting is strategy and not button mashing and hacking. If you want a high action game look elsewhere.
A huge dissapointment. I read the books and loved them then watched the show and loved that. I saw there was a game coming out and I couldn't wait. Rushed out, preordered it, sat down to play, and wanted to start crying. The graphics are terrible and the gameplay is a joke. I hate games where you hit a button and wait for the character to play out the series of commands. That style is better for like a command and conquer not a 3rd person RPG. Stay away and don't buy this game. The only upside to it is that the actual storyline and plot are pretty good. Overall definitely not worth the money... Maybe $5
