F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin
FEAR is within and around you
i just bought this game and i am scared already but i love it and so will you. FEAR 2 is more in depth with FEAR project and this horror shooter might frighten the bravest shooter. if you play this game you will buy the next one i bet you.
First in FPS Horror
I was a fan of FEAR from the PC and although I had this one sitting down for a few years after only playing it a few mins, I am glad I finally came around to it. FEAR and Monolith I still think are the kings of FPS horror, knowing how to strike a great balance oh audio/visual queues, gruesome displays and horrifying surprises with usable gameplay and environmental interactions. Sure the graphic style is not "beautiful", but when combining it with the dark nature and veiled shockers..its does its job perfectly I think. If you want to cut out the mystery and heart stoppers (why?) you can always adjust your brightness. Storyline is good picking up hot on the ALMA trail, although for some reason I get the feel of Resident Evil here and there. As the plotline thickens, the end is somewhat abrupt...but rather "freaky". Interesting and was unpredictable. The combat mechanics aren't too great, but the environmental interactions and effects are very good. Obviously with the age of the game, I found the multiplayer to be nonexistant, which is too bad. I guess is time to move on the FEAR 3!
Great game but campaign is too short
This is a really fun game - played the 1st and the 1.5 version and now this and found that these games have progressively gotten better. The graphics are excellent for the most part but like the other FEAR games there is something unusually plain with some of the textures. Overall though, the visuals are very good. Controls are smooth as butter and it's a great fast paced shooter. The bullet time (call it what you will) isn't very original but is still a lot of fun. The story is better than average but not Bioshock or Halo good. There are some startling and spooky moments but not truly scary (like Silent Hill). Sound is very good, there is a creepy original music soundtrack. The problem with the game is that it is waaaay too short. As in "I can't believe the credits are rolling already" short. If you're big on multiplayer perhaps you'll wind up getting your bang for the buck but not worth purchasing new for single player - wait for price drop or rent or pick it up used. Finished it up and right back to the store to trade.
The best Horror FPS yet
Monolith Studios has been known for making great Horror/Shooters like the original FEAR and The Condemned series and I have enjoyed them both but FEAR 2 is definately thier best game so far. I was skeptical about getting this game because I heard that is was very short. Well I was surprised to see that the game was a "normal" length, I would guess 8 hrs or so. The graphics are very well done and there was more variety in this installment, although they still put you indoors a little more than I would have liked. The character models are good and the lighting and textures worked well for the game, not the best Ive ever seen but solid all around. FEAR is know for its slo-motion feature and it never gets old going into slo-mo and seeing the enemy splatter apart as you shoot them or make them explode with a grenade. There is no shortage of gore in this game and that alone adds to the shock value while playing. The sound in this game is also very well done, I played through the whole game with headphones on and I think this added alot to the overall atmosphere. All of the sound effects and the music are well done and really made for an intense experience. The controls are great too although I should mention that they added some "bobbing" motion while walking/running and that may bother some ppl but I thought it was fine and actually added to the game. Theres not alot of weapons but the ones you get all "feel" good and effective in eliminating the enemy whether it be a shotgun, machine gun, pistol, sniper rifle or rocket launcher they all work well and are accurate when going for a head shot. The game is well paced and was actually a little easy because there is always plenty of ammo, armor and health lying around. Which I liked, I dont really enjoy being frustrated in games and this game was enjoyable all the way through on the medium difficulty mode. If you want more challenge then play it on a harder difficulty, simple as that. The story is good and kept my interest, alot if the story detail is found in intel items you find and read through the PDA, kind of like DOOM 3, but no VO. I would recommend reading them, they are short and too the point and really make the story better. I only played the single player and I doubt theres anyone playing multiplayer as of today, 3/8/2010, but I didnt get the game for MP anyway. Overall I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a solid horror FPS. It is really fun and put me on the edge of my seat a few times and thats really all I wanted from the game going into it. I hope Monolith keeps the series going because I feel this is the best game of this type available today. I give it a 9 out 10.
Not too bad
I played the first F.E.A.R., and didnt like it too much so I traded it off. So F.E.A.R. 2 came out in 2008, and was wanting to try it out and see how it went. Well about a week ago I picked this up thinking it would be cooler but it was basically the same thing like in the original. Theres just something about 2 that didnt keep me going for too long, just the way he walks like there something stuck up on his feet or somewhere else. The game is a little scary but its mainly about shooting just the same enemies. Some tough spots though, so its a challenge. Not as good as I hoped it would be, but its something to play when your bored of a game to keep things going. The game's guns is pretty cool, like a cannon with fire comes out and ignites your foes on fire, to a combat shotgun to a laser gun. The graphics is ok for it, but not the best, the gore in it makes it look better since this is a horror game and makes you jump here and there.
As a dedicated FEAR/Monolith fan, owning Condemned: Criminal Origins, Condemned 2: Bloodshot, and FEAR on both 360 and PC. I even have Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate for the Xbox 360 and PC. But once I got FEAR 2: Project Origin, I was blown away. Other reviews claim this game to be sub-par when stacked against multiplayer giants like Halo and Gears of War but Monolith is a company that makes games to satisfy it's fans and if they impress a magazine or two, they say "thanks" and go back to making more games. You have to play the game as it is meant to be. Just a game. Not as a game that's trying to beat other franchises. If you loved FEAR 1, then you have to play this game. If you hate it, go seek help. The game improves on graphics from it's predecessor , and extends the plot to the point of "another sequel on the way" but that's not a bad thing. It's an awesome game so buy it so that Monolith will make another.
If you liked the first F.E.A.R. then you'll like this more
I'm writing this review as an obvious fan of the F.E.A.R. franchise, and to be quite frank I believe that's what this game is directed towards. If you haven't played the first F.E.A.R. you will be completely confused and turned off, the only sensible review that can be made is by someone who has played the other F.E.A.R. games, end of story. The graphics aren't the sharpest, but whatever, they're much better than the first one by a long shot, remember it's a console game, if you're a graphics nut get the PC version. The main driving force of F.E.A.R. is Alma and just the story itself, and it's here in all of its glory. All in all the game has been refined somewhat but still retains the core elements of the first F.E.A.R, I'd recommend it whole-heartedly to anyone who's played the previous games, but not to anyone new to the story or the game, you won't appreciate it nearly as much without playing the first game, understand that F.E.A.R. has good gameplay, but that isn't what makes or breaks this title, it's the story and the atmosphere, and this game picks up the ball flawlessly.
the graphics are very well done the explosions and gun shots are so realistic and the blood splatters are realistic and well done environments and character animations the controls are very smooth and are very easy too get used too for people familiar with fps games it is very challenging from facing multiple enemies at once too almost invisible enemies and boss fights are pretty hard and has a wide variety of enemies putting you between action and horror scenes the story is well done as well it explains how alma was made evil and whether she can be defeated or not and has a very good ending there is a lot of weapons in this game like the automatic shotgun, laser, smi automatic machine gun, assault rifle, mech robots, and much more my opinion is that this game is a must buy for non fans and fans alike this game is a great horror game the length is pretty good in my opinion so BUY IT
really good buy
Fear 2 is one of my favorite shooters. the graphics are beautiful and well detailed characters make it easier to make out what you are shooting at.the controls are very nice but had some problems at starting with the slow mo button and the inventory button.there is a good verity of weapons my favorite is the combat shotgun and going back to the graphics the weapons are very nicely detailed.i enjoyed the story of the game i thought it was well laid out.the challenge of this game is sometimes intense.i like how the environments are distractible and they look very realistic.i found it a bit hard at the school area when the robot crashes down and your left with just enough rockets to kill it.the game has a few good jumpy parts and a few scares.alma is pissed so don't screw with her.i would highly recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of fear and is looking for a few scares.
Not a Rehash-Sets the bar
I downloaded the demo fully expecting a rehash of more of the same. SURPISE They took what was really good in the previous games, the John Woo/Matrix type bullet time with all the slow motion blood splatter you could want. They upgraded the weapons changed the controls to more like COD 4 and improved the graphics big time. I'm not a big "story" type person...something to with a ghostly girl in fact somtimes I find the Psy parts of the game annoying and didn't really get it but nether the less what sold me and got me to reserve my copy at Gamestop was this game has Mechs in it! Now in this game they call it "powered armour" but it was like playing Steel Battalion Again with upgraded gaphics. Hopefully this will be in the multiplayer cause if it is people will love it! So if you like FEAR before, you like Mech type games like STEEL BATTALION THEN this is your Huckleberry!
