Earth Defense Force 2017
Alright, I know for a fact that many people look at this game or watch someone who is playing it, and think that it is stupid and pointless. But thats the fun of the game. No one plays games to actually play the story, they play it to blow things up and create fire. Look at a modern game like Grand Theft Auto 4, the story line is good and the missions fun but most of the time is spent running around causing chaos. Im not saying that EDF is at par with that kind of game, but EDF is up there. It has over 100 weapons, 52 missions, 5 difficulties, and Co-Op play. I think my friend and I have clocked in over 25 hours and have only beaten 55% of the game. Now the bad parts. Sometimes I think this game could of had a better story, Giant bugs and robots is a little childish. But it works sometimes. Another thing that could have been improved is the amount of lag there is when you and your partner use all the fire power you can. The bottomline is this game is fun to kill time and have fun with.
The Story of My Life
Now I could Tell you a sleep-enducing story about how this game changed my life, and inspired the cure for cancer, or I could just tell you about the majesty that ensues the playing of this game. To mow through an endless legion of bugs with a rapid fire rocket launcher powerful enough to reduce a thirty story building to rubble with a single rocket, or take down a towering walking fortress while piloting a mech equipped with a flame-thrower, a rocket launcher, and a chain-gun, this is the most pure form of bliss I have ever experienced. And when the heat is too much for you and your mentally challenged AI companions, your best mate joins the action in the convenient split screen mode. Throw in cheesy one liners such as "are you scared?" "n--no!" and "Oh my god, he killed the rookie!," and lovably horrible graphics, and you have yourself the purest form of fun I have ever experienced. Fight on EDF, fight on...
Best when played with a friend.
From a first impression, this game doesn't seem like a big deal. Dated graphics, stiff controls, and major repetition in the levels. But do not let that keep you from playing this game; especially if you have someone to play with.
My brother and I spent an entire weekend playing this game, and it was a blast. Shooting at giant bugs, large mechs, and even a monster or two straight out of a Godzilla movie can get downright dull when playing solo. But add a family member or a best friend, and you're guaranteed to have a fun time trying out all the different weapons and conquering all 50 levels.
The only major complaint I have is the lack of online co-op, but the next title in the series (Insect Armageddon) will have it included, so you can blast away the baddies with anyone. EDF 2017 is an enjoyable game that won't burn a hole in your wallet.
The split-screen co-op in this game is great for gaming buddies.
I bought this game because I like to play split-screen from time to time with friends, and I got tired of playing some of my others. Let's face it, no matter how good a game is - sooner or later your going to want to try new games even if they look a little rough around the edges, if anything at least for a new experience. I tried every split-screen on the shelf before I bought this one from gamestop because it just looked so lame. I WAS WRONG! This is one of the most addicting games I have ever played, but mostly when I've got a spilt-screen buddy. Other than that it's not as fun. I gave the challenge a 10 because you can turn the diffilculty up so high that its almost impossible without help. The interface and controls are so simple a child could do it. The graphics and story are by no means great but the game play makes up for it. There are so many weapons to find that you just want to keep playing to find the next, and the explosions are so large you'll kill yourself or your buddy if your not careful. Now I know this game is by no means a 10 but for some reason my friends and I find it hard to put the controller down after we start playing. It's one of those games you just have to play to believe.
Don't Like It
This game is bad in my opinion. It has terrible sound, awful music, repetitive missions, no mission variety (it's just kill giant bugs and then you win), the worst vehicle controls, your guy looks ridiculous, only 7 achievements overall (6 for beating it on the different difficulties and 1 for getting all weapons), annoying teammates, and bad graphics. Most would disagree with me but it's true. I would not recommend this game to anyone.
Earth defence force 2017 is really cool mostly with the gameplay considering that everything else about it isn't very good but still, something I liked most about it was the achivemants, theres only 6 but gets you alota gamescore,It also has over 52 levels, 5 diffucultys and over 100 weapons,But most of the time you will chose a rocket launcher and a assult rifle. The thing I hate about the game is theres no xbox live,That stinks! But it is co-op and has a battle mode where players can Vs each other, So that covers it up.The sound in this game is pretty horrible...but the graphics are not bad and the enviroment almost looks the same everytime but with lil changes.I don't really care cause you can blow up a sky scraper with one rocket shot so i just blow everything up.Overall i think this game IS fun but needs to Be worked on in alot of spots.
I don't know where to start; this game is awesome. When I first got the game I was so excited and when I got home and played it it was even better than I thought. Easy mode isn't very challenging except for a few levels toward the end. The enemies, giant bugs and robots, can be challenging or easy depending on the difficulty. The levels are a little too repetitive because there are 52 levels and only 7 locations. In the game your EDF teammates are not very helpful, most of the time although they are occasionally helpful. In the game there are 7 different weapon categories including Assault rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, missile launchers (homing missiles), grenades (also including grenade launchers), and special weapons. In co-op mode the game is a lot easier because of human help. In battle mode you fight against your opponent you each have 2 weapons (this is the same as the story mode) And the first one killed loses. In story mode enemies will drop health, armor ( which will improve your stamina for future levels), and weapons that you can't use that level but will be unlocked for future levels. This is an overall great game but I wish battle mode could be live as well.
EDF2017 is one of the funnest co-op games I've ever played. When I first saw it I thought it looked totally lame, but it's not. If you like playing co-op games on the same tv then try this one. My friend and I still play this from time to time even though we've beaten it tons of times. It's what I like to call dumb fun were minutes go bye in hours.
This was great when it came out on ps2.Sorry some people might not have played it since it was a japanese release.Guys and gals give it a chance you wont be disappointed. The difficulty of this game was high up there, but with practice and a team mate to play with you can strategies on the best measures to take the enemy out.Tanks, mechs, hover bikes, and helicopters to enter in the fray of usable vehicles. When I played the ps2 import one I was able to take a helicopter and fly to the flying saucer in the sky and land and blow it uo and get back in the copter and take off.Wonder if thats still intact.Everything is destructible in the gameeven the buildings. The price point can't beat since I bought the first one for $69.99 back in the day.Plus the ps2 version could not handle the amount of enemies that come at you 360 seems like its doing pretty well in frame rate so far.
What A Shock
I bought this game after seeing the case. I thought if all else I could laugh at it as it did look rather cheesy, so I bought it. When I got home I just left it on the counter, wasn't all that hyped to play it. My friend came over and saw the box and he pointed out it was two player coop. After 5 hours I finally had the strength to remove my hands from the controller. I have never been so blown away by so little. OK to get its negative points out of the way so I can go on ranting about how awesome this game is. 1. Graphics are like PS2 in HD, don't expect anything amazing. They even used 2D sprites for the power ups. 2. Storyline: There are UFOs dropping large insects... KILL INSECTS! That's all, so don't expect Oblivion. Now to move onto its good points. First off Its LONG 53 levels and it feels like Contra for the next gen consoles. Nothing but shooting and carnage. The action revolves around you fighting off swarms of hundreds of Giant ants, spiders, robots, UFOs, and a giant Mechca Godzilla for good measure. Your weapons include every variation of rocket/missile/shotgun/assault rifle/sniper rifle/grenade/misc killing tool/etc... and vehicles like mech suits, helicopters, tanks, and hover bikes. This game will have you demanding this much fun in games released by main stream companies. This one will prove you don't need amazing graphics to make a game great, you just need to come up with fun idea and build on that. I would like to see more companies spend those dev bucks on gameplay rather then graphics. I know, I know, you're going to say "But the market trends don't match the basis for that change.", Forget what your computer told you, it doesn't have to play the games. Try it, Humans want it.
