Best Rally Racing so far
My specialty is asphalt but I have always been amazed by Rally racing and up until now all the games I have tried have been terrible, especially if compared to the likes of Gran Turismo. This game is by the makers of GRID and has similar appeal. (I love GRID by the way). The only downsides to GRID was the lack of adjustability of mechanical parts (ie: air pressure, shocks, downforce, etc.) and easy practice runs of a track pre-race. DIRT has included each of these functions including realistic damage and control. It has all the great GRID features such as a helmet cam view and accurate sound effects. I love the realistic feel of the game with the use of a steering wheel and how if you veer off course you don't hit some invisible wall. The game allows you to flip, slide and completely fall off course if you suck that bad. I would've given the game a 10 all across the board, but there is no Paris-Dakhar Rally feature (gran turismo and Grid included 24hr specialty races like the 24hrs of lemans). Other than that, this game is a must have for any auto racing junkie; asphalt or dirt.
Still the best console rally sim
DiRT is a very, very good rally game. It has flaws, but it's still the best one out there. It has almost everything a player that wants a rally sim would want in a game. The physics are very good, the cars handle responsively and you feel the bumps, shattering crashes, and hard landings. The brakes are a little too responsive on gravel, and the grip is a little strong, making long, sweeper corners not something you can hang the rear end out on, but still, the game handles great. Graphically, it's still great today. The bloom effect is a bit strong, but the environments look wonderful, as do the car models, and the damage is by far the most impeding to your racing of any of the DiRT games. If you crash into a stump on the inside of a corner that you thought you could cut, surprise, your alignment will be shot afterwards. The stages are long, averaging 4 miles, and maxing at about 6 (rally stages), and that's about right for a rally game. They're dang challenging, too. However, there are no weather effects, no snow stages, and that can hamper the replay value a bit. But, you can tune every last aspect of the car to your hearts content, aside from the engine mapping. And it makes a huge difference in how each car handles. The game can seem a bit dry or without personality that the sequels have, but this is a sim, and if you want a great rally sim experience to tide you over until Dirt 4 comes out, this is the game for you. (I've raced rally in real life, and this is as close to it as I can get and still have fun)
I have played the demo and can't wait for the game to come out. The graphics and damage modeling is beautiful! However, it is nice to see some reviewers giving credit to Rallisport 2. I keep telling people that Rallisport 2 for the Xbox is probably the best rally game ever made, and is up there on my list of all time favorite racing titles. While this game is fun, I just can't seem to get the drifting down. Where as in Rallisport, the controls were so intuitive that after 5min I was drifting with pinpoint precision. One area where Dirt surpasses Rallisport is in the amount of modes and cars that are available. Aside from the drifting, it seems like either some people were brought on from the Rallisport MSGS team or they tried to copy Rallisports intuitive play. Don't get me wrong, Dirt is going to be an insane experience. If you like Rallisport 1 or 2 for the Xbox, you'll love Dirt for the 360 (and vice versa).
Cant get enough DiRT!
Dirt is just a fabulous game! The graphics when I first turned on when the rally car does the turn then you go down the mountains were just breathtaking. I love the violin music at the start and the menu's are very intuitive. The graphics blow you mind away (especially when your xbox 360 is hooked up using HD cables!). The customization I think could have been more in depth but honestly rally cars shouldn't really be customized. Some of the physics on the Rally raid T4 Trucks aren't totally correct but the rally car physics are very realistic. One thing I noticed was the rumble feed back which I thought was just great. My favorite car would have to be the freight liner hill climb truck. I thought the damage was extremely realistic. I think that DiRT really gets you hooked and you really can get enough DiRT! I also like how your vehicle gets progressively DiRTY!
Dirt Forza 2
yeah... forza 2 was a joke and dirt took its place for my purchase. this game is incredible... the car damage is awesome, this game even has environment damage! in the demo my friend (terrible at this game) crashed into a barrier and bent it a little, so this game is very in-depth! graphics are gorgeous and the gameplay is great. i love the handling, i dont have to slow down to 10mph to make a turn like in forza 2. i saw a review earlier with some moron saying that forza will "last longer" pfft most ppl played the demo for forza for 1 lap and turned it off bc 1. the controls suck, we dont want something too realistic, we want something fun. 2. the graphics on forza 2 are a joke, the cars look like they do in forza 1 and the environment looks worse than it did in forza 1... 3. the online will be much better and more fun. thats enough for me so im gettin dirt, i suggest u all do too.
The game is beautiful, loved the demo. People psyched about the game though need to understand there is NO SPLIT-SCREEN, NO REAL MULTIPLAYER ON OR OFFLINE. The "99 racers plus you" thing is stretching the truth, you'll be on the track by yourself and only able to talk to one person. There's a graphic on the side of the screen that will tell you what position you're in based on your time. That's the closest you'll come to racing another human with this game. Pretty much just a time trial, which is what rally is like, but still... it's not multiplayer. I like the game. If it had multiplayer I'd be buying it. I just want people throwing down $60 thinking they will be able to jump in the game with a friend at their house or online and mash it up like the PS3 folks can with Motorstorm. Maybe they'll get it right in DiRT 2. :(
out of your minds
I will put money on this, Forza beets this Hands Down. Graphics. Forza pulss 9.5, dirt pulls a 9. how can you say dirt is better, forza EATS this, play the demo before saying anything... dirt looks good but it is deff not Forza. And, i will beet anyone on this, dirt will be good for about a week. forza will be awsome for a couple months. Forza is like a racing rpg. you have to earn cash to fix up your car if you crash it. that puts alittle comp in the play, trying to play with a bunch of you asses wrecking you all the time. lol well you wont be playing long before you have no cash from crashing others because you need to win races to get money and you have to use money to buy the parts you need, tires that blow, parts fly from your car. Forza is going to SHINE i played the demo and HOLY @#$!!!!
DiRT is an awesome rally game for the 360. Ive been playing it about about a week and desoded to do a review and share my thoughts about the game. I'll be talking about the 3 main modes Single Player: Single player is long. Basically there's 11 tires and you race your way up to the top of it, the bottom tier having 11 events. For each win you get 10 points and you need a certain amount of points to unlock the next events. By winning races and earning money the you can purchase cars and liveries (skins) for the cars. Overall, there are 46 different cars and 186 liveries to buy. The amount of money you earn is based on the difficulty level you pick when selecting the event; higher difficulty levels have more challenging AI opponents and more realistic damage effects. Championship: This mode is simple. It lets you race a series of races in which the your combined time throughout is cumulative Multiplayer: It allows the player to race up to 100 other players in rally races through solo competition, as there are no other cars, ghosts or players present on the track. Fastest time determines who wins, but the only downside is that the only races you can do is rally, hill climb, or big rig. theres no buggy or anything like that. Overall, the game is great. Ill give it a 9/10. I hope you've enjoyed my review
Great for 1000 GS but time to get there is long!
If you are looking to boost your gamerscore to another 1000GS, than grab this game, because its insanely easy to obtain. The downside is the time it takes, and things you have to do to get that insane 1000. 1) 2 to 3 play throughs in career, and that's just getting to 1000 miles in career, and enough money to buy all cars. The miles only count in career, and after my first play through, I didn't even have 500 miles complete, it was like 450 or so. The online is simple, and the championship is simple. However, the rally & cross over races in career mode will frustrate you entirely, due to the fact that the cars are hard to handle, and control, unlike "Split Second" where the cars are very smooth. A hardcore gamer will get the full 1000 such as I am, but only the dedicated!
Amazing graphics for a 2006 game.
This game has terrific graphics but the music is terrible and i cant stand it. But this game is definitely worth putting ur money into.
