Read This Review, I Promise it will Help.
I purchased this game new on April 15th, the same day that the corresponding television show premiered. I have yet to watch the show, so if that is the content that you are looking for in a review, I'm sorry but that isn't what you're about to get. So this game drops you into a large scale server on a good sized map. This map is large enough to not want to travel across, but it is very possible to do so in a few minutes. The first thing you will notice after your entertaining character creation is the sub-par graphics. This isn't very annoying unless that is the kind of thing you care about. I'm in it for the game play. Your class determines what your starting weapons and outfit (Which you will end up wearing for a long time) are. You can add perks to your character as you level up. As you start in the actual game after your mini tutorial, the first thing you will notice is the abstract scenery. It is based in San Francisco after some sort of apocalypse and now an alien species known as the "Votan" and Humans live together peacefully. You will find loads of random mini mission things popping up everywhere as well as loads and loads of enemies to fight. This would be annoying except you are fighting to get pursuits which can unlock more clothes and "Titles" for your character. Honestly, the missions lack any sort of creativity. Every mission involves you protecting someone not good enough to protect themselves while they set up, disarm, or locate some sort of thing. This is basically just a 2 minute timer for you to fight off hordes of enemies. With such horrible mission value, you will need a friend to enjoy yourself in this game. The reason why I've had so much fun with it is because I have a few friends who picked this up around the time I did. We do missions together and enjoy the fruit of the open world on nights when we want to stay up. It's good fun. The guns in this game seem endless. Most of them are just variances of themselves. Your EGO rating increases and you will have more access to equipment that you can utilize. Often I will find one nice gun and chill with it for a very long time. You can also trade and stuff with friends to get what you need to get. Also, this is sort of bothersome, you need to pay extra to use the "Defiance Store", which is basically a store for those to lazy to get good at the game. Not very many people use it, so whatever. As for matchmaking, it is a very enjoyable aspect of the title. There are a few different modes. Co-Op, Shadow Wars, and Death matches. (They may not be called Death matches...) I LOVE Shadow Wars. These are huge scale objective based battles that take place on the open world map while other people are doing their thing. This is also the only time you can PvP on this open world. With a few friends, Shadow Wars can keep me occupied for hours. It's so fun. I am glad that I purchased this game. I have never gotten into an MMO like this. I would recommend this to anyone with friends to play with... If you don't have any friends to convince, then I am sure you can make some once in the world. Good luck, Ark Hunters, and goodnight.

Game fell WAY short of expectations
Reading the description for Defiance, it really sounded like a good story line. To add to that the concept of playing the game online only was an interesting concept, although terrible marketing-wise considering this game only speaks to online gamers. I figured I'd give it a try, just to start the game I waited 30-45 mins just to start playing. The game had to install updated software and patches to my xbox 360. After waiting that long just to start the game, I figured the graphics should be amazing....disappointing is more like it. Graphics for the games like "Rage" and "Boarderlands" were better, oh and you can put the game into your console and start playing (no ridiculously long wait) Playing the game, it started out cool where you can create your own player (minimal creation, but still lets the gamer feel like their character is unique) Once you kill enemies you can loot items they drop. The controls on how to add perks, upgrades, attachments to weapons were in no way spelled out. So some game play and stumbling is required until you can get to enjoy the game and it's interesting qualities. By that time, you killed the same spawning enemies a couple dozen times and you're perks are minimal, at best. If you're into games that take a lot of play time to get barely anywhere rewarding through a game, then you'd probably like this game. I'm just glad I rented this game, and didn't buy it. Defiance is definitely not worth more then $5-$10. Don't waste your money, rent it first to see if it's lack luster game play is something that would pique your interest.

Great Game
This is one of the best games Ive played in awhile. It does take some time to pull you in but once you get going its hard to stop. I recommend this game anyone!!!

Much, much better than I thought
This game is just fun. Plain and simple. It's not going to win awards for graphics, but the controls are responsive, the map is HUGE, and the replay value is incredible. No issues with playability lag on my end and I have done an Arkfall with 40+ people. Just a bit of sound lag. The game doesn't seem to end and restarting or making a new character isn't tedious like other games. If you want just a straight up fun game to play, this is your game.

Knocking Down Originality's Door
This game has it all; addicting game play, open world, fun multiplayer, massive opportunities, ridiculously entertaining co-op. The campaign in this game is surprisingly really interesting and addictingly fun being that its the first real MMO on console. The game has endless amounts of stuff to do and an immense amount of side objectives. The greatest thing is they constantly add, update, and improve the game constantly. Running a clan is fun as well and trading is an awesomely unique experience too. Don't let me forget the best thing about this game ARKFALLS!!!! I've fought along side 500+ people in an arkfall with NO LAG!!! Also Shadow Wars are extremely ground breaking the PVP is just amazing....This game is worth the $60 and then some and I would greatly recommend getting ASAP!!!!!

terrible
I bought this game without previously researching it, and i regret it. The servers crash QUITE OFTEN, emergency maintenance sometimes without warning, lag, ridiculous amount of hard drive space needed, graphics are sub par at best, freezing is a big issue as well. How this game has any positive reviews is beyond me. There was a patch that was released today, five minutes after i started playing, servers go down and have been down all day. Do not waste your money on this game that you cant even play half the time.

Sweet MMO
Being one of Xbox's first MMO's, its very well done and has a long lasting appeal with replayable missions, nearly 4000 character levels, great weapon differences, and a large open world with so much to do.

Great Online ARKFALLS, Interface Could Be Better
After owning this game for about a week, I am finally used to the interface (although I may still press the wrong command). Sure, input error; however, there is much to be said for a controller vs a keyboard. The skill tree takes a few tries and EGO "levels" to find the right one for your style of play. Graphics could be better, but for an MMO with fast frame rates I can't complain. People/environments fade in and out and it is frustrating to track an enemy who randomly appears/disappears. The most appealing aspect is the huge battles with random people, so having friends with this is a must! The best part are the random Ark Falls that people frantically rush to take down multiple opponents. A great game for my collection the story isn't that bad either.
