A Refreshing Third Person Shooter
Dark Sector is a sinister, morbid game in which the player controls C.I.A. agent Hayden Tenno who has been sent to a Lasria to complete his mission of killing a man who intends on infecting humanity with a virus. After something goes wrong, Hayden finds himself infected and throughout the game he struggles to rid himself of the virus and take down his target, Mezner, the madman spreading the infection. The story holds up pretty well but one play through isn't enough. After playing through the game twice I found the story more engaging for the simple fact that I knew what was going on because it was already familiar to me. Graphically, this game is absolutely gorgeous and definitely one of the prettiest games for the Xbox 360. The sounds are fantastic whether it be a shrieking soldier who just lost a limb or the clang the glaive deflecting off steel, it all sounds great. The gameplay is very reminiscent of Resident Evil 4 and anyone that was a fan of that game should check this out because it's very similar with the addition of a duck and cover system. The gunplay is also entertaining but you will definitely find yourself using the glaive since it's fun and quite addicting. Hayden constantly evolves throughout the game becoming stronger and acquiring different abilities which essentially make him more of a killing machine as the game progresses. The one flaw of this game is it's fairly short, about eight hours to complete with single player campaign. Overall, this is a great third person shooter with some cool elements that haven't been done before and it came out pretty excellent.
This game SUCKS
My friend gave this to me for my birthday, so I played it a little. It stunk. I can see why he got rid of it. In the 1st level you have to shoot down a helicopter with a PISTOL! I would not recommend this game to ANYONE! Never buy :(
I think we all have mixed feelings for this game. It was like resident evil, wait but better.... or not.. This game was wierd but had a great story. The shooting wasnt great but niether was resident evil. But yet resident evil has a better story....or not. Like i said these ar mixed feeling that we all are thinking of. Anyways pick this up for yourself. Your going to be confused but your $3 dollars will not be wasted.
Hope this was helpfull :)
A mix of L4D and GoW
I like shooting zombies and, cool weapons that just rip the enemy apart. Which is why I love Dark Sector. The only problem I have with the game is the multiplayer. There is only two game modes and nobody plays on it. If you're buying it for the multiplayer make sure you have a friend to play it with. If your looking for an excellent campaign I highly recommend this. I'm looking forward to Dark Sector 2.
I beat this game a while back but this game is great! Do not look at the price and base your decision of getting the game off that. This is a cheap and EXCELLENT game buy. I hope they will work on a Dark Sector 2!!! :D
Great find , i heard of this game awhile back, digital etremes was working on it (same guys who worked with EPIC to make unreal tournament)
this game blew me away visually , its on par with gears of war 1, the game-play mechanics are very cool, basically you have the Glaive , its like a wicked boomerang weapon that u can use elements with,Fire Ice, Electricity etc. to slice apart your enemies(this game was actually banned in Australia due to that) not to mention you have an array of weapons that you can upgrade and place attributes on to make em better, also as the game progresses you get more ability's i.e. bullet reflect , and after touch which allows you to steer the glaive so you can decapitate disembowel your enemy's with ease, great game D3 this is definatley a very underated Gem right here, giv it a tray its only 5 bucks cant go wrong with this game , its very action oriented , im glad i had the pleasure of picking up this game.
Just An Average Shooter
I'd like to preface this review with the understanding that this game is four years old. As such, I understand that it is way behind the times in current shooters. But, even still, this game is lacking to me, even behind shooters older than itself, such as Prey.
While the graphics were okay, the environments were very drab and lifeless. The controls were not very sharp and responsive and I found the constant whiny reluctance of the main-character to be a put off.
Furthermore, there were many glitches in this game, the most notable was a time where an RPG disappeared out of my hand while firing at a helicopter.
Overall, this is just an old run-of-the-mill shooter that tries to do a few things differently, but lacks in general execution and polish. Though, if you're a shooter fanatic and have run through everything from COD and Battlefied to Halo and Crysis, I guess for only $3.99, this might be something you want to pick up for a few days of dated gameplay.
Though, if you're looking for something cheap, old and fun, I would recommend Prey before Dark Sector.
Over all awesome game. Great buy too.
Now I would first like to say the reason I said it was for hardcore gamers. That is because you can not just run around in the middle of the fire fights expecting to survive in the game as it is in most games of this type. There is actual tactic involved seeing as how you cant just expend all of your ammunition because that would make it a lot harder to get further when fighting off a group of people. Another hardcore aspect would be that there are varieties as to what you can do between the bladed and firearm weaponry. The fact that you can not only throw the blade but also hit with it is great because it covers both short and long range fights and the finishers in close range are not only brutal but add a split second of cinematic rest, almost like an intermission that entertains while its there but its short enough so that your back in the action soon enough to have enjoyed it. Another great aspect of the blade is that you can hold any one handed weapon with it which in most cases gives you enough variety to not rely too much on the blade though I personally love using it. The enemies in the game put up an actual fight and if you dont watch yourself you can die very quickly. So over all I am saying for casuals who like to just run n' gun this game is not for you. Now the sound in the game is just plain perfect and I dont need to explain that much for you to understand. The graphics are great in my perspective because for a long time I did not even have an Xbox 360 , in fact I just got it for christmas, and i have come to appreciate even the older xbox 360 games. But it truly does bring out lighting and texture and body structure well and there are very few glitches that would actually deter its great model and detailing work. Now when it comes to game play it flows very much like resident evil 4 or 5 but also carries its own unique playing style in the sense that in the resident evils, up close combat was not much of an option where as in this game it utilizes that ability and adds many lovable aspects to the combat system as well as other parts (such as aquiring items using the blades steal technique.) Now my comparison before to the resident evils was to game play as I would like to add that this is its own game and other than play style they are entirely different in their own rights. Finally I would like to touch on the lasting appeal. The lasting appeal I gave a ten because you can play the game once on normal and then beat the hard mode and have two entirely different experiances. For example in normal you may have used a more direct combat approach or liked to stand your ground untill you absolutely had to take cover. Then you go through hard and you may have played a more defensive approach because you found that by standing your ground you would find death in a near instant. and I would like to mention that if youre felling very bold and beat hard it unlocks a locked difficulty level which takes it to a whole new level. All I have to say about that is have fun finding your own way of beating the game on the locked difficulty. Good luck. In any case I suggest this to all who enjoy a lasting campaign rather than a game that rely's entirely on Xbox live to keep it running. I personally can not afford Xbox live but if you can I suggest you take a break from your live games and take this game on as a personal challenge and ill assure you you will love it. Try not to be sceptical about it and give it a proper chance, it may be different for you but that should be all the more reason to get your hands on it as well as the fantastic price its going for. Buy it now is what I say.
A Solid Third Person Shooter
If I was going off of price compared to gameplay, I would have to give this game a 10/10, but that would be unfair so I won't. This game is a solid third person shooter with a pretty good variety of weapons along with a cool weapon called the Glaive, which can be thrown at you enemies and it returns to you like a boomerang. The main character also gains powers throughout the game, like throwing your Glaive into fire to catch it on fire, but I won't say anymore to make this as spoiler free as possible. The story is a bit lackluster but it is by no means bad. The graphics are a tad dated, but the game is old so I can't complain about that. The boss fights are quite good, big bosses with cool powers and weak points, you know, good bosses. The online is dead so don't even try to play it, you won't find a match, that isn't the games fault though. It was actually pretty cool, one player is the guy with the Glaive and powers while the others try to both hunt him down and stay alive while being hunted by him. Quite similar to Far Cry games with the Predator. All in all, as I said, a solid third person shooter and definitely worth the price of a McDonald's meal. One last thing, with no sound options a few of the cut-scenes are a bit hard to understand due to background noises being as loud as the talking.
My friend had this game so looked into it and read some reviews then decided to buy it. It is a very good game. The controls are very easy to get used to. It has a very good storyline. The sound is top quality. The back ground noises sound so real. The graphics look so life like is is unreal. But be warned this game is not for those who scare easily. The noises in the background are far worse than the actual enemies you face, Because they are so real you get paranoid at times. Over all it is a very good game and i would recommend it to anyone looking for a dark and lasting storyline in a game.
