Condemned: Criminal Origins
Sure this game is a little short, but in the 8 hours it took to beat it, i had a bunch of fun. Plus going back through and getting the extra achievements was another opportunity to get to play it again! I would definitely recommend this suspenseful crime scene detective game to anyone who wants a good game with a good story.
Amazing game, but flawed
I bought this game to day for free by using a powerup rewards coupon, mainly due to the fact that i have had my 360 for going on 7 years now, and still never played this one. and wow was i surprised. this game if FULL of atmosphere. it makes you feel helpless, and the way the enemies jump out of nowhere reminded me of Dead Space, though Dead Space made me almost s--- in my pants, this one just gave me several near heart attacks. This may be an awesome game, but with the VERY loose and wierdly operating control scheme (having to hold down the left stick while pushing forward to sprint) makes this hard to recommend to people. I would however, because this game is intense. I am not going to knock on the graphics much, because it is from 2005, and they are dated, but with the BGM being full of quiet and eerie sounds, and the fact you can hear Ethan breathing heavy at times, makes up for the flaws in my eyes. A well made game, that everyone has to at least experience to know what they are missing
survival horror to the max!
its time to grab all the blunt object you can get your hands on with condemned: criminal origins! this game really puts you into the minds of the criminally insane as your character, Ethan Thomas, is sent on an investigation through dark Allys and old abandoned buildings to locate the mysterious serial killer x. to start, the combat is a plethora of melee mayhem containing various objects that you may pick up to beat your psychopathic enemy's faces with. it always seems to keep you on edge and keeps a moderate challenge. the graphics and animations aren't quite so pretty up close, but the environments are highly detailed and creative keeping a spooky atmosphere that is bound to scare you. the most impressive part about condemned criminal origins, is the sound. all the moans and groans and screams and smashes and brilliantly executed by the monolith team. this game will scare you, and with a story this good, you will be drawn in closer to find out the real mystery behind serial killer x.
Eh, not bad but definitely not great
I'll start with the story, it wasn't bad for what I played. You're a FBI agent trying to get a serial killer and that was as far as I got. I barely got to the third level before I couldn't take it anymore. I don't care for the gameplay, lack of inventory or how they use weapons. There is a realism to a point but accompanied with the faults that I see it is definitely not worth the money. I'm willing to say the storyline could get better farther in the game but the gameplay and controls really killed what could have been a good experience. I'm willing to admit that I'm expecting too much from one of the first games released for the 360. But the first Max Payne looked better than this and it was released in the early 2000's while this game was released in 2005. I see the potential that this game could have been and wouldn't say it's one of the worst games ever made. But I've played a lot of games in my time and it didn't pose as a challenge.
I hate mannequins now
So let's set things in place now, if you're looking for a legitimately scary game, your search ends here. This is probably one of the scariest games I've ever played, if not the scariest. Every horror aspect of this game is perfect. The environments: Dark, diverse areas, everything from abandoned shopping malls to erie apartment buildings. The enemies: they aren't too variant, but you got your normal crack head lurkers, big bad meat heads, Nemesis look a likes, and so on. The sound: it is pretty much perfect, sounds from moving around to the different things you step on, glass, paper, wooden planks, metal flooring, the whole nine yards. The screams of enemies, their movements, both quick and stealthy. One of the most important aspects: gameplay. It is a bit slow but ultimately it adds to the horror experience, you can chase an enemy but you can't run away from it. A true feeling of unease, fear, and true hopelessness. The story is okay, it's not totally grabbing but it's present enough to keep the game going and keeps the players attention. If you want a truly scary, but playable and enjoyable game, then this is a game for you.
The best Survival Horror game...ever!
I have just finally gotten an XBox 360 which came with Guitar Hero (which is great in its own right) but when my uncle lent me his copy of Condemned: Criminal Origins I was sold. I have played all of the Silent Hills games and many of the Resident Evils, but those games could not even touch the intensity of this one. I would shudder every time I heard a noise, freak whenever Ethan would walk on papers, thinking someone was following him. Never have I panicked so much in a game. Not even in Alone in the Dark did I get this spooked. What is the best about this game is the storyline. I haven't finished this game just yet, and am definitely looking forward to doing so. That is something I rarely do, actually finish a game. But with this story I feel involved in Ethan's character and want to know the outcome. Plus, the added bonus of the forensic tools is amazing. That is something I am interested in, and to see it mixed into in a video game like this one makes me all that much happier. I believe that anyone who loves these type of games would definitely enjoy this one.
The Greatest Horror Game Ever!
Why this series of games isn't a huge franchise like Call of Duty, I don't know. What I do know is that it is the greatest horror game to ever be released for the Xbox 360 console. If they made this game for PS3 I would definately buy it. It's the first game I ever bought for my Xbox 360 (when I owned one, sorry microsoft/Bill Gates) and to this day (almost 4 years later) I sometimes ask myself why I sold my 360. This game is literally the only reason I bought one to begin with. It is awesome. You will definately do one of the following while playing this game 1) urinate in your trousers 2) have a bowl movement in your trousers 3) Drool all over yourself (or others) 4) Shake in fear 5) [Almost] have a heart attack 6) Turn off your 360 'cause your a wussy. (JK guys, I did it too.) Trust me, Buy It!
This is a great quality game especially when it came out a while ago. It's a good action oriented game that kept me wanting more, overall two thumbs up.
Its a very creepy game. Almost too creepy. The graphics are good, not great. Some times you see things that should happen i.e. you hit someone with an object and it goes through their head. The graphics in the backround are very good. The people look fairly realistic. The sound is great, the creepy music that plays through out the game adds supense. Also you can also hear the people moaning and yelling in the backround. I just love the gameplay. You go around killing serial killers, which makes for a very interesting game. It is a very short game. Overall I would give it a 9. Very good buy. Very violent, you kill serial killlers with poles and they swear and it is very scary. Would not recommend playing at night with the lights off and the sound up. :)
creepy, but a game you wont stop playing
Only a certain number of words can describe how freaky and awesome this game was. It kept me guessing what was going to happen next and made me be careful about what was around the corner. The music and lighting of the game adds suspense and horror to this survival/horror game. The story line could have been a little bit better, but the graphics blew my mind! I loved how you could just pick up a 2x4 and hit a guy. sweet! Using melee weapons was only one of the things you could use in the game. you had a choice to use your firearms or tazer (which i loved to do) people. and you could rip a pipe off a wall or use a wrench you found on the ground. All in all, this game was creepy, but i just couldn't get enough of it.
