BlackSite: Area 51, developed by Midway Studios Austin, is a next-generation game that will redefine the first person shooter (FPS) genre. While other FPS titles claim to feature "action-packed, highly realistic gameplay," BlackSite: Area 51 takes next-gen gaming to an all-new level integrating cutting edge technology, game design and story writing to create the ultimate entertainment experience. The player's modern-day emotions and fears are driven into a world charged with grave responsibility affecting lives hanging in the balance and eventually finding himself torn between his professional orders and his own ethical standards. In the end, only the actions of the player and his squad can shape the outcome of BlackSite: Area 51 during this potentially pivotal moment in history.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better than its rep suggests A huge flop when it was first released, Blacksite: Area 51 is nevertheless a fun game, if an uninspired one. Given the fact that you can get it for less than a cup of Starbucks these days, you are definitely getting a deal. The set-up is basically, 'What if the X-Files was an action movie?' The player controls a soldier, first in Iraq and later in New Mexico, as they become enmeshed in a military conspiracy involving alien technology that was discovered in the desert, fighting off enemy soldiers and extraterrestrial monsters along the way. As a shooter, it is fun, particularly in the later sections when the fighting moves to contemporary suburbs, a nice, off-beat touch. The controls are fluid and the levels are well-designed. The main gameplay annoyance -- and it is a quibble -- is that most of the time the player cannot open doors themselves. They must rely on the AI-controlled NPC companions to do this. The bigger problem is that story-wise this is a pretty muddled, confusing affair. Even after the big plot reveals towards the end, the player is still likely to be confused as to what is going on -- or why they should care. The game also has a notable bug: When opponents are killed their guns do not drop to the ground but rather hover in the air near where their owners were killed. I had more than a few instances where I shot somebody off of a roof and their rifle ended up suspended in mid-air 50 feet off the ground. This was actually kind of amusing, I have to admit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Underrated I rather enjoyed this game. The reviews of it made me a bit weary of buying it, but once I actually started to get into it, it wasn't all that bad. This is a great time-killing game in case you need a break from your more hardcore titles. It started out as your standard military shooter and then completely went to left field. I really liked the sci-fi turn it took. It had a solid story that made sense, to me. The controls were a tad clunky and shooting was difficult at times, but it was overall not that bad.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from DISTURBING BUT FUN This game is fun but really disturbing. Especially the first level. Like your in an abandoned warehouse with very little light and all of a sudden you see a thing run past you then you turn the corner and it looks like a mix between (if you have played left for dead) a tank and a 6 eyed alien thing. Its way demented and disturbing but relatively fun. Worth the 10 bucks if you like a zombie type game.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Its decent The game overall was pretty good. Campaign is pretty good a little short and kind of predictable but exciting and fun. The graphics where pretty good the gameplay is decent. It glitched alot but the glitches werent major some were kind of funny. I didnt even try online because i knew no one would be on. It could of used a couple more guns, but overall it was a pretty good game. It could have had potential to be a major game if it was more well known.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great game, but underrated. I want to start out saying this game is NOT the best. It is NOT the worst either. The gameplay does get a little repetative once in a while, but if you use different tactics it does get fun. The graphics in this game is a little above O.K.ish. The game does have a lot of bugs and I mean ALOT! They do not interfere with the game though. I had this for computer and the disk broke, so when I saw it for $10 I got it. I was very happy. It is a short game, but I want to keep playing it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not the worst game i have played this game is not the best. but for 10 bucks. i think you should give it a try like rent it. or buy it used beat it take it back. cause really its not that bad. it is just a game that is not in the top. something new to try but let it be up too you. but if you don't feel like it looks worth the time then just move on

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This game is O.K. I absolutely loved the trial of this game, but after I purchased the full game, I just got disappointed. The game is very good for $10, and I see how this game was pre- the Modern Warefare series, but I believe that this game was out populated by Modern Warefare. I do like this game, I mean the graphics and sounds are great for its age, but if you are going to spend money on this game, you might as well go and spend $10 for MW1 or $10 more for Halo 3.
