BlackSite: Area 51
I was expecting a lot much more from this game and it let me down. I knew it wasn’t the next cod4 or h3 but I still thought it might be a good break from my addiction of cod4 and h3. I played the demos that are on the marketplace and I thought that this game had potential to be fun. The demos showed were an early make of a couple of the single player missions and I thought that they were good enough to make me buy it. I genuinely enjoyed playing this game for about the first 5 minutes (about how long I played each demo) but I got sick of it after that and I haven’t played it after beating it once. The multiplayer is impossible to find a match online (probably because everyone with half a brain is playing cod4 or h3) and when you do get a match; the lag is so unbearable that it makes you want to punch a baby. If you don’t believe me and you still want to play this game, and then please rent it before you buy it. Don’t make the same mistake that I did and just buy it after playing the demos.
Better than its rep suggests
A huge flop when it was first released, Blacksite: Area 51 is nevertheless a fun game, if an uninspired one. Given the fact that you can get it for less than a cup of Starbucks these days, you are definitely getting a deal. The set-up is basically, 'What if the X-Files was an action movie?' The player controls a soldier, first in Iraq and later in New Mexico, as they become enmeshed in a military conspiracy involving alien technology that was discovered in the desert, fighting off enemy soldiers and extraterrestrial monsters along the way. As a shooter, it is fun, particularly in the later sections when the fighting moves to contemporary suburbs, a nice, off-beat touch. The controls are fluid and the levels are well-designed. The main gameplay annoyance -- and it is a quibble -- is that most of the time the player cannot open doors themselves. They must rely on the AI-controlled NPC companions to do this. The bigger problem is that story-wise this is a pretty muddled, confusing affair. Even after the big plot reveals towards the end, the player is still likely to be confused as to what is going on -- or why they should care. The game also has a notable bug: When opponents are killed their guns do not drop to the ground but rather hover in the air near where their owners were killed. I had more than a few instances where I shot somebody off of a roof and their rifle ended up suspended in mid-air 50 feet off the ground. This was actually kind of amusing, I have to admit.
Pretty Awesome Game
It really is a fun game to play. They aliens look realistic enough to fight against. They maybe could have though a better arsenal of weapons to the game. The charcters might seem a bit bland at times but they do get funnier through out hte game. I think the storyline is awesome thats what helps make the game more playable. the boss fight at the end is to easy they could have made it a bit more harder and challenging. But other then that the game over all is really cool. If you have not tried this game out yrt then i advize you to pick up a copy and try it out for yourselves, you never know maybe you might like it. But for certain its one of the closest games to Halo that there is out there that i have playedso far. I hope all you shooter fans out there try this game cause it a riot.
Good Shooter for the Price
Just picked this one up to fill some time. Its a solid shooter with good graphics. The sound as far as charecter conversation could use some tweeking. DIdnt take too long to complete and the achievements come pretty easy as you play the story line. Played the demo and didnt think it was worth the new price tag, but used this games rating goes up. The online play is now almost non existent, but that can help if you are just achievement hunting. The few people that are online with the game will help you get the ones that you need. The controls seem a little sticky at times, but you have to adjust them in the settings every time you start the game. Kind of annoying but makes the game easier to play. All in all not a bad little gaem to pick up off of the used rack.
This game was OK
Ok this game is alright. I had gotten an xbox 360 for Christmas and me and my dad were in gamestop and he was like here u want this game and i was like sure. I was really excited about playing it. When i got home, I started playing it and i was like oh my gosh this is awesome. The graphics are OK, the storyline isnt that good though. The characters, though, are quite hilarious at some points. The aliens are awesome. They came out of nowhere. I think they spent way too much time working on that than the rest of the game. At first, u will think its awesome shooting aliens, but it does get old. U keep shooting the same things, but overall, it is a pretty good game. I still havent beat it, so im working on it. If u want a action game, u should get this one
Good But Short Demo
Just downloaded the demo like a lot of previewers here and it met my expectations. The graphics are good with great effects. The sound left a little to be desired, specifically the guns from both sides sounded extremely weak and muffled. For some reason the aliens look like they came out of Fall of Man for the PS3. But what really bothered me about the demo is the spotty framerate. When it was just your squad, the game ran buttery smooth. However, when even 1-2 enemies came on screen the framerate dropped dramatically. The good news is that this is game still has a lot of development time left and all these issues should be fixed. I really digged the feel of the game though. A war torn small American town with aliens blasting through it! The other thing I want to mention is that after playing Rainbow Six, the command system and lack of a cover system really felt archaic. To leave this preview on a good note, the destructable environments did rock!
Blacksite: Area 51 was a decent xbox 360 title. The graphics were similar to those of Gears of War, but not quite as good. About the gameplay; imagine something like Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 having inbred child game. INBRED. This would result in some really weird gameplay, pretty bad dialogue, MISERABLE controls, and some pretty stupid AI. The game claims to be squad based... It comes off like the character you are commanding has the intelligence of a two year old that has been beaten over the head and thrown into a closet for 4 days. The story line was pretty lame too... The game was somewhat challenging seeing as I was playing it on the hardest difficulty, but it's a pretty short game. Not to mention that I almost always got the squad command button and the grenade button confused constantly. I regret buying this game, due to its absolute mediocrity, but it is a perfect title if you are looking to rent a game..
Wow, what a terrible game!
This game is not very good, let me start with that. It deceives you at first by having a Star Wars quote and shooting terrorists, but after that it fails. The story is bland at best. After the first level, it just stops being fun. Game play isn't much better. For a squad based game, you'll find yourself doing almost all the work. Well, except for opening doors, which your character is unable to do on his own. This makes the game worse because if your team is down, you're stuck, which in this game means you're dead, and have to start from the last save point and listen to all the dull dialogue over again. The game isn't even that hard. You'll be able to blow through it quickly, unless you come to a doorway, that is. The enemies are just ridiculous. The graphics are fairly good and sound quality isn't bad, and you DO get to shoot things, so not all is lost. But most of it is. Better off picking up GRAW, GoW, or CoD.
I'm relatively new to the 7th generation gaming. I've been buying and playing shooters since December . HALO, Gears of war, Army of two etc..and enjoyed this game as much as any of those. I bought this game because the cover looked good and am not disappointed. The story line is good, if you listen to the dialog it makes since and doesn't leave you with more questions than answers. As far as challenging the squad with you doesn't do much but I don't like games were the AI does the work any ways .I thought the graphics were good ,and the sound was great. The controls like any other game were tough at first but you get used to them .So if your looking for a decent game at a good price I highly recommend this game . Especially if your a newby like me and at that price really what do you got to lose?
Great game, but underrated.
I want to start out saying this game is NOT the best. It is NOT the worst either. The gameplay does get a little repetative once in a while, but if you use different tactics it does get fun. The graphics in this game is a little above O.K.ish. The game does have a lot of bugs and I mean ALOT! They do not interfere with the game though. I had this for computer and the disk broke, so when I saw it for $10 I got it. I was very happy. It is a short game, but I want to keep playing it.
