Aliens: Colonial Marines Collector's Edition
Great Idea Executed Poorly
It's not as bad as many of the reviews I've read say it is, but it's a far cry from what we were promised it would be. I had rose colored glasses on when I played through this game the first time and loved it. Mostly for the multiplayer but the sound goes a long way to pull you into the story.
After my second play through I can tell you it's really not worth it unless you've got nothing else to play and are a huge fan of the Alien franchise, like myself.
Also, you should be aware that the DLC included with this special edition version of Colonial Marines expired on 2.12.14. So if you want like half the things offered in the description here get prepared to be disappointed.
I reserved and bought this game when it launched with a few of my friends. We did the co-op play through and it was tedious to say the least. In the end we hunkered down and finished it; not because it was such a good game that we just couldn't wait to see the ending but because we had already spent the money and wanted to finish it up so we could trade it in. The few redeeming qualities were found mostly in the multi player which wasn't the best but had some fun aspects to it. Graphics: were terrible I found them comparable to a first generation Xbox or ps1 game. Some graphics were decent from a distance but when you got up close, it took a while for the details to load and when they finally did, you were left with the thought of "that's it?" Often times it was comical. I'd be looking at one of my team mates and would notice that his gun had disappeared however the character would still appear as if he was holding a gun. Now during a fire fight, still no gun but the muzzle flash could be seen emanating from the characters crotchular region. I had a good laugh about that. I liked the aspects that tied into the movie. However, the storyline as a whole was uninteresting and ill conceived. I cared pretty much nothing for the characters involved. Dialog was pretty lame also. Ending was a major disappointment but the final line in the game has been adopted into my and my group of friend's dialog anytime we see and want to express disappointment or a sarcastic appreciation for something. I recall reading a post release review of this game in a volume of Game Informer and it made me laugh so hard I near fell out of my chair. The best part of the review was that it was so spot on. This game is unfortunately the by product of a company that decided to pull resources from its development for focus on other games (Borderlands) and threw it out on the market in an as-is status. There are so many things wrong with this game, a book could be written. This game had the potential to be a really good game but the development team dropped the ball and did gamers and fans of the Alien franchise an enormous disservice. Now with me being a fan of the Alien franchise, I couldn't pass up picking up a copy of the collectors edition for $10. Getting the statue and the extra stuff makes it worth it. "Its got it, its got it all." Just don't expect to get much out of the game itself.
I'll start by saying anyone who gave this a high score is a "casual" with low standards in gaming. Poor graphics, mediocre gameplay, completely mindless AI, etc... Might as well say what they did right... NOTHING!!! It lacked imagination, lacked replayabilty since it was nothing but a hallway shooter...I'm not going to waste any more of my time of this game even to write this... Took it back with in 48hrs, never done that with any other game. There is a reason the price on this game has gone down so quickly.
It's a good game not the best, but a good game.
It really is a good game. The action is good and the gameplay is interactive with the different weapons that can unlocked. The muitlplayer is really fun. With the the CE now $40 its a steal with the extra content it has.
Game is not worth buying!!
Repetitive gameplay; no joke all you do is shoot aliens and pick up a log and then open a door and then repeat. The graphics are awful and outdated, the story is bland and uninspired, the characters have stupid dialogue.
Easily the best ALIEN game of all time
Don't be biased and buy games based off of user reviews is what I learned with this title, Very VERY glad I bought the collectors edition!. I am very happy with the storyline and overall feel of the game,
I was so hyped when i first heard about this game, i had thought "Finally a true sequel to aliens." Put what i got in return was so much less. I didnt even have high hopes for it anyway, but it still was less than my expectations. Its almost like gearbox software took my dream of the perfect aliens sequel, my hype, AND my hope, set them on fire and threw them out the window.
Don't waste your money
Game is horrible, don't waste your money on it, or at least try it out on redbox first. Graphics would be good if it was for the original playstation.
Blood, Gore, and Much Much More!!!!
This game is far better than anyone would expect. This game has an engaging campaign and has a very addictive, bloody, and fun multiplayer. This game mostly goes with the plot of the second alien movie, and shares similar weapons to it. In addition, you can customize characters and weapons. Its worth the money, if you don't mind gore (which is what makes the game great)!
Aliens Colonial Marines is good for its fans.
I am a big Alien fan, I have been waiting for a long time for Gearbox to release this title. I purchased the collectors edition all its extra content I was vary pleased with. The figure is displayed on my dresser, when I played the game I liked the start and everything but I do think they could have done a little better on the graphics. The multiplayer for me is a little difficult it make take a while for me to get use to its online gameplay. Overall I say its a good game I would only recommend to people who are alien fans if not you may be disappointed.
