WORLD

Prologue

An almighty crash heralded the sudden arrival of the Bionis and the Mechonis to this world, for the two titans were locked in a timeless battle...

The sound of their clashing blades rang out, shaking the sea bed and sending ripples through the air.

As the duel reached its climax, the titans poured their remaining strength into one last slash of their great swords. Both struck forth with immeasurable power...

Once the dust had settled, only their corpses remained.

Eons passed, and signs of life finally began appearing upon the corpse of the titan Bionis.

People born of the Bionis will return to the Bionis.

Now, the Bionis's enormous body, covered in lush plains as far as the eye can see, is home to a developed civilization, which gives thanks to the titan for providing them with such a natural bounty.

Life on Bionis was not destined to flourish forever, however.

One day, an enormous horde of mechanical life forms from the titan Mechonis launched a sudden and all-out attack on the inhabitants of Bionis.

These overwhelmingly powerful entities, known only as the 'Mechon,' overwhelmed and devoured the inhabitants. Before long, the entire surface of Bionis was overrun.

The Monado

The Homs' only remaining hope is a legendary sword, said to be a gift from the titan itself.

Its blade is imbued with a curious power that allows it to effortlessly slice through Mechon armor.

Unfortunately, whosoever wields the sword must endure a great toll on their body, and only one has ever been able to wield it: Dunban, Hero of the Homs.

BATTLES

Move freely through real-time battles and unleash powerful arts. The battles of Xenoblade Chronicles combine action game-style attacks and turn-based tactics.

BATTLE FLOW: MOVING IN THE FIELD

Your character will encounter various monsters as they travel around the game world. Target a monster and instruct your character to attack it in order to commence battle with that monster.

Each monster has its own traits and characteristics. Some will attack you as soon as they see you, others will only attack when you are endangering members of their herd.

You are free to move around during battles, and focusing on your position relative to the enemy will be important. As soon as you are within range to attack the enemy, the character you're controlling will auto-attack the enemy.

BATTLE FLOW: ATTACKING (USING ARTS)

Pick your moment during battle to perform special actions known as Arts. (Once an Art has been used, it must cool down. It cannot be used again until its cooldown period is finished.)

Each character has a range of different Arts that they are able to perform. Some Arts have special effects when used at a certain point in battle, from a set direction, or in combination with another character's actions.

Effectively combining such actions will help swing battles in your favor.

BATTLE FLOW: CHAIN ATTACKS

Your party is made up of a maximum of three people. The party members you aren't controlling will decide how to act for themselves, based on the battle situation.

Communicating with your party and increasing your affinity, displayed as the Party Gauge in the top-left of the screen, will give you an advantage in battle.

Increasing party affinity allows you to perform powerful Chain Attacks with the other party members. You can also give simple commands to your party members, directing them to concentrate their attacks on a certain enemy, for example.

*Affinity is displayed as the Party Gauge which appears at the top-left of the screen.

BATTLE FLOW: BATTLE SPOILS

When the enemy's HP reaches zero, the battle is over. You will receive experience that lets you level up and points that you can use to customize your abilities.

Check any treasure chests that appear for items or equipment. Sometimes they contain things of real value!

Defeating enemies will earn you XP and so on. Items can also be obtained from dropped treasure chests.

UNIQUE FEATURES: CHARACTERS AND WEAPONS

Each character can equip different types of weapons. Some excel at close combat whereas others specialize in long-range attacks. You will need different battle tactics for each character depending on their equipment and personality. The player can change which character they control at any time using the menu. (The player-controlled character cannot be changed during battles.)

UNIQUE FEATURES: THE MONADO'S POWERS

The Monado is a weapon imbued with special powers that set it apart from other weapons in the game. As Shulk gradually becomes aware of its power, powerful moves with special effects, known as Monado Arts, become available for you to use.

UNIQUE FEATURES: BATTLING MECHON

Mechon's tough armor means they are impervious to damage unless a special attack that harnesses the Monado's power is used. The character who wields the Monado releases its power, sharing it with members of the party. This enables all party members' attacks to cause damage to Mechon.

UNIQUE FEATURES: BATTLING UNIQUE MONSTERS

Some of the monsters you'll encounter while travelling around the game world are unique monsters with individual names. Unique monsters drop items that are more valuable than those dropped by ordinary monsters when defeated.

You'll encounter powerful unique monsters right from the beginning of the story. Don't take them on until you are ready. Bide your time and build up your powers before challenging them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest game I've ever played If you can see it you can go to it....literally. this is the greatest game I've ever played for multiple reasons. it is a game that i could never put down, the characters stick with you, the world is massive, the soundtrack is spot on, the story keeps you hooked and wanting to move on, and the amount of fun playing this game is unrivaled by any other game I've played. Hope Xenoblade Chronicles X is just as good, but it has high standards to meet up to for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Beautiful Work of Art. Let Me Say it right now. I LOVE this game. In fact let me clear it up, this is my favorite Wii Game and my 2nd favorite RPG behind Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. (My Recommendations my 1st, 3rd, and 4th favorites) However, what makes Xenoblade Chronicles so amazing? Allow me to elaborate. 1st let me say exploration is KING in this game. Look around and you see a mountain? You can go there! The entire map is explorable and it not only encourages the exploration but REWARDs it! You get experience points just for finding and exploring a new area. Next I will touch upon the art. Oh My God. While I have to say the resolution is kinda underwhelming for the era the artstyle is very captivating and wraps you in making up for the whole thing. You won't care about the resolution because you will be too busy admiring the work they put into the art style of this game. Let me touch on combat, a lot of RPGs randomly generate encounters and it can get tedious but not Xenoblade. in this game Monsters and Mechon are all over but you don't have to battle unless you initiate it (in most cases). Giving you immediate control of the fight. It isn't like most RPGs with its commands there are 3 types: Chain, Monado, and standard commands. and they are completely customizable you choose which commands you go into battle with and you sort how strong each is. I could go on forever about battles but I wanna talk about characters and story. Each and every character is unique and interesting. Even side characters. You talk to them and they appear on your Affinity chart explaining how they connect with everyone else and who they are. Party Members have unique personality and you won't want to exclude any of them. Each have their own battle quotes as well which make for fantastic 1 liners like "Now it's Reyn Time","What a bunch of Jokers", and "This is the Monado's power!" You will develop bonds with the characters and feel emotion towards them. As for the story without spoiling anything its a fantastically well written Masterpiece. Everything about this game is Fantastic earrning it's 9/10!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pass... Play Xenogears or The Last Story instead. Do you like JRPGs? Do you like games where you actually have input? Do you love being able to actually play a game without it playing itself? Then this game is NOT for you. This game has great graphics and music, sure, but last I checked, the real important things in games are gameplay and story. And this game has neither of those. The story is extremely bland. Seriously, story-wise, you'd be better off playing an NFL game... And gameplay? Well, if you are into auto-battle for w/e reason, then it's great. However, if you like actually playing games, then you should pass on this. I gave this game a more than fair chance. I gave it about 20-30 hours worth of chance. And the whole time, I was forcing myself to play it. This game is nothing more than an over-rated, over-glorified embarrassment to the Xeno franchise. It's worse than what Tales of Symphonia 2 is to the Tales franchise. I strongly recommend passing this game up and giving The Last Story for the Wii a chance instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This game is the most exhilerating game ever From the moment I started playing this game, I knew it would be amazing. As a kid I have never played a hardcore rpg game. The only rpg's I have played were pokemon and spectrobes. Because of that I am not a very strategic player, but this game near the end made me feel like I have been playing rpg's for years. If you're not a fan of linearity then look no further as this game lets you explore even places you aren't supposed to go to yet. This game also has my favorite pieces of music in any game. The battle system was very unique and interesting. While battling you can auto attack by just being near an enemy, without pressing any buttons. You can also use arts that either lower stats of the enemy, cause status inflictions like freeze, burn, or bind, or just a simple powerful attack. If you are not a hardcore gamer then this game may be frustrating towards you as you have to grind levels a lot, because even if you are one level under leveled, then you can still easily die. Xenoblade Chronicles probably has the most exhilarating story in gaming history, and the music blends in perfectly with every cut scene. If you are a hardcore rpg player, then I highly recommend this game to you as it is my favorite.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Is it really that rare? Don't get me wrong, this is a great game for the Wii (if you like JRPG's) But is it that rare. Why is there 12 stores in a 25 mile radius of my small city with copies available, 7 of which have multiply copies? (Not shown as low stock.) Even after playing it, I would NOT pay more then 30 dollars to play. There are cheaper, great JRPG's on the Wii. But if you feel you have to try this game use a classic controller.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow! I just learnt that it was $90 for brand new one. luckily for me I still have mines and I got it for $35 only. in mint condition too. but the game is so badass. its so good that I got confused from the storyline from it being the last boss but not being the last boss. and so many sidequests that it keeps u on ur toes to continue playing it. I played over 90 hrs of it before I decided to beat it. and im at lvl 86 I believe since I haven't played it for almost a year now. just collecting dust.
