Summer Sports: Paradise Island
NICE ADDITION TO MY COLLETION
I USUALLY READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE I BUY A GAME AND MAKE MY DECISIONS ACCORDINGLY. HOWEVER I PICKED THIS ONE UP NOT REALY KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I AM VERY HAPPY THAT I DID. I DISAGREE WITH SOME OF THE CRITICS AND SKEPTICS ON THIS ONE. WHILE I AGREE THAT BADMINTON, AND VOLLEYBALL WERE HARD TO CONTROL (KINDA SUCKED). THE REST OF THE GAME- MINIATURE GOLF, HORSE SHOES, LAWN DARTS, BASKETBALL, CROQUET WERE ALL VERY PLAYABLE AND ENJOYABLE. I DIDNT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE CONTROLS AND EVERYTHING SEEMED RESPONSIVE ENOUGH. THIS GAME IS A NICE COMPLIMENT TO MY OTHER PARTY GAMES LIKE WII SPORTS AND WII SPORTS RESORT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS GAME TO ANYONE.
Not Really "Paradise"
This game is just poor overall. The controlls on most of the games don't work well, and the games themselves don't offer much variaty. Lawn Darts and Horseshoes fell like the same game because they're controlled exactly the same and respond just as horribly to your motions. How far you throw the objects in these games is basicly at one of two strengths: almost overthrown and way underthrown. Badmitton and Volleyball are almost completely uncontrollable, and, thus, unplayable. In Mini-Golf, it's impossible to control how hard you hit the ball, but the courses are nice and varied. Basketball and Croquet are the shining points of the game, although neither is very good. Horse is the only fun Basketball mode. The other two modes are just too easy to be fun. For example, you can win a round of around the world and miss no shots without even trying. Croquet is the exact opposite of Mini-Golf: it's controlable, but the courses are bland and boring. All in all, don't get this game unless you're prepared to deal with its many major problems.
This "game" is awful!!!
This was the worst game I ever bought! I got it for my son and he hates it. I tried it out for myself and I also think it is awful. First, I tried the basketball game. The horse game was fine, but Around The World was pathetic. I put the CPU characters on easy and they won in one turn. The Shot Clock game was still bad. I put myself right in front of the basket and after every shot, it moved me back. Next, the badminton game. It was so bad, it belongs in Alcatraz. It took 30 minutes to score 1 point, and it was the other team that got the point. Volleyball was bad, but better than badminton. Lawn Darts and Horseshoes were equally embarassing. On croquet, I wasn't able to adjust my aim. The power meter at full power was as slow as a sloth. The only game worthy of playing is the mini-golf, and it's a little worse than Horse. This is the worst game I have ever bought and I returned it faster than a Lambroguini going 1 to 60 mph. If you buy this "game", you just spent the worst $15 dollars you ever spent in your life!!!
Remember it was only ****
I was disappointed when I realized that this was not made by Nintendo. That is why perhaps the controls and response are not as precise as I would like. When I play golf in Wii Sports the remote is extremely responsive and that is just not the case with Summer Sports. The mini golf themes are great though! Makes it very interesting and there is usually more than one way to get to the hole. It would also be nice to use your own MII but I understand why this is not possible. Tried to play badminton but the layout is not conducive to success. I like the tennis in Wii Sports better. The horseshoes would be awesome if, again, the response to your throw was more precise. I have tried with four different remotes, ensured that they were all charged but it didn't make a difference. All in all I would still buy it and still recommend because the mini golf is fun no matter what happens. Being that it is only **** I can handle that! Cheers!
It is what it is......
I will agree that sometimes the camera angle can be a bit of a problem in a couple of the games but mostly it's not that big of a deal. Volleyball is one of the harder games to play but personally I wasn't all that interested in it anyways. For the most part the rest of the games are all pretty basic and real fun to play. The two basketball games seem pretty simalar to each other so not really sure why they have two. Horseshoes is fun and can get addicting like WIi Bowling when playing against others. Lawn Darts can be put in the same category as well. Again you have to understand what you are getting into before you purchase the game. I mean it's Wii Summer Sports, not NBA 2K8 or Pro Beach Vollyball. It is what it is and if you enjoy other titles like Carnival Games, Wii Sports and Party Games, you will enjoy this title just as much.
Not quite the sequel to Wii Sports...
I bought this title thinking that it would be done in a way that would give it a one-up on Wii Sports. I was wrong! I was pumped about this game but was quickly disappointed once I started playing it. If you are looking for a good family game in the sports genre, do not pick this game. The camera angles in the game are horrid. For example, in Volleyball, when the opponent hits the ball to you, the camera whisks around to you just in time for you to see the ball land in the sand. It's very hard to even hit the ball. In Horseshoes and Lawn-darts, it is impossible to hit your target. There's no way to actually aim your shot in Basketball. Badminton is worse than Volleyball. The only decent game is Miniature Golf. But it's not enough to keep the game since Wii Sports golf is pretty good. The graphics are okay. My character was still pixilated even with having an HDTV and the Wii Component cables. All in all, if you really like Wii Sports, keep playing it.
Was hoping for a lot more...
I recently purchased the Wii for my family and was pleasantly surprised with how much we all enjoyed the system. Initially, we only played the title that came with the system, Wii Sports. While we still play Wii Sports regularly, I saw that the Wii was coming out with a new game, Summer Sports. In my head I was thinking, "hey, summer is coming up... what better than a wii game that involves some classic summer games like horse shoes, lawn darts, miniature golf, etc." Unfortunately, the game falls short in almost every area. The game play is terrible - there is no sense of "touch" like you get with Wii Sports. The sensation of hitting/throwing softer and/or harder doesn't seem to exist. There is no real sense of control. It's more of a "go through the motions and see what happens" feel to it... the exact opposite of what I am looking for in a Wii game. The graphics are fine in the game but I would have preferred more development go into the physics of the unique hardware that the Wii offers. Also, the game play is slow and though it has the ability to be multi-player...the pace makes the multi-player functionality unfeasible. I was really optimistic about this game and was extremely let down. If you want to get another game the entire family will enjoy...try Carnival Games by Take 2...my kids can't get enough of that game.
I went on line and order the games. The prices is well worth it. My whole family enjoy the games.
Looks like fun!
This game looks like great fun, especially compared to other similar ones on the market. I can't wait to play Lawn Darts. I haven't had those since my cousin nearly stabbed himself with the real ones back in the 70's.
this looks like a good game for the family to play
