Reader Rabbit is an edutainment software franchise created in 1986 by The Learning Company. This series is comprised of grade-based and subject-based titles aimed at children from infancy through second grade. Reader Rabbit is the main protagonist and goes on various adventures usually involving educational mini-games. As the name implies, Reader Rabbit's initial focus was on teaching young children basic reading ability, however the success of the series has led to math games and a series of grade-based (e.g. preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade) games that cover various subjects including basic reading and phonics as well as math, memory, and other skills.
The Wii versions of the Reader Rabbit games will utilize the motion control and pointing capabilities of the Wii Remote making for a more interactive experience for kids. The simple point-and-click gameplay of the Reader Rabbit series translates perfectly to the Wii Remote as it can be used to point directly at locations and objects on screen and click with a simple press of a button. Players will be able to use the Wii Remote to drag-and-drop on-screen items (a game mechanic used in most of the mini-games) as well as use the motion controls (e.g. shaking the remote, twisting the remote) to add a new dimension to some of the mini-games. The unique controls for the Wii are designed to further engage the young audience for which these games are intended, making for a more interactive and fun experience.
