For the first time in the Mario Party franchise, each stage culminates in a Boss Battle. Collectively, players must combine their strength to defeat classic foes such as Bowser and King Boo while still playing competitively to boost their own individual scores.
In another first for the series, players ride across stages together in special vehicles. Players take turns as Captain of the vehicle by hitting Dice Blocks to move the party forward, hoping to land on lucky spaces. The vehicles also help to streamline game play and keep everyone involved in the action.
Unique Captain Events on each stage give players a new way to change the shape of the game.
In Mario Party 9, each themed stage has a clear destination point but with multiple paths along the way, so no two games will play the same. From Toad Road to Boo's Horror Castle, players will encounter a wide variety of familiar Mario franchise elements in new environments that can be enjoyed solo or with friends.
Includes 80 outrageous new minigames that find players making pizzas, escaping haunted mansions, and racing snowmobiles.
No time to play through an entire stage? New minigame modes let players enjoy the action in smaller chunks of time. They can hone their skills at any minigame in Free Play mode or try the Extras mode that includes Goomba Bowling and the puzzle-based Castle Clearout.
Every time they play, players can earn Party Points that are used to unlock special items and features.

This was a terrible game. Storyline is stupid and the levels are so short. I remember in Mario Party(say, 6) You could play for a very long time. So if you have a Wii I recommend getting Mario Party 6. Beside that, it's cheaper and the game is more fun. You'd have to have a gamecube controller to play it, though.

This game is perfect for: kid gamers

I guess the developers of this game said forget about improving. This game is boring why did they take away coins and star competition idk and than every player are advancing together WHAT VERY STUPID!!!! Like everyone is saying Mario Party 8 is way better don't get this game unless u have kids who will play anything. I can only hope Mario Party 10 have developers who actually care about consumer happiness.

This game is perfect for: party gamers

To be honest, the mario party 8 was really bad fro me but I was like, well, what could possibly be worse?? But now that ANOTHER mario party has come out.... You get the idea... The "all new minigames" are most likely repetitive and the same as others. Do not get too exited on the boss battles, they are so easy and boring, they dont look like boss battles!! Somer like, king boo´s battle, ends up REALLY fast and because it is a party game, the way to beat the bosses is party like choosing a figure to line up or blah blah blah.... In other words, I only recommend it if ya have never played another mario party before, if not so... Do not buy it!! Another bad thing was that the new characters are Magikoopa and Shy guy.... Seriously... I can clearly see they ran out of ideas.

This game is perfect for: party gamers

Ok, I haven't really played many Mario Party games before this game, only 8, advance, and DS. I remembered my friends used to have MP8, and it was a lot of fun, so I went and bought myself MP9. And I'm glad I did! It's just what you'd expect, you're all on a gameboard and you play mini-games and move around to try to get the most mini-stars by the end of the game! This game changes things up by having boss battles, everyone riding together, and the boards are kinda linear, but I didn't really notice that last one. This game, however, is pretty much based on luck, so some people might get frustrated at times while the rest will be having fun haha. The graphics are really good for this game. I was playing on a big HD TV at my friend's house and the graphics still looked pretty decent. I didn't really notice the music much while I was playing, but I know it's pretty good. All in all, it's a party game, so get lotsa your friends and family and just play this game together and you won't want to stop playing! I know I'll be having fun with this game for a long time!

They did make changes but not all changes are good. If you never played a mario party you might like this, If have played others chances are you will agree with me this is a big fail. The items are gone and you travel the board together? What board game do you travel with your rivals enough said. Being a mario party fan i never rented before buying, this will change that mario party 10 will be rented before buying.

I thought Mario party 8 was much better. I was not impressed at all and thought the game play was slow. I am sad that 2 vs 2 matches are gone. In general while playing party 9, I was bored and unentertained. I traded it in within my first day. I dislike that everyone moves as 1 unit in a car as opposed to individually. If they come out with a party 10, I hope it is less of a disappointment than 9.

This game is perfect for: party gamers

I just got done playing this very entertaining game with my family. From the first round all the way to the 4th or 5th we were having a blast competing over stars and trying to mess each other up.
I haven't played a mario party game since the N64 games so you'll have to take that into account, but I know for a fact that this is a ton of fun with a group of 4 people. The best part is is that the mini games are fun but easy to learn so anyone can play and have a blast.
The only gripes I have are that without someone else to play with the game is a bit dull. Don't buy this if you're just planning on playing alone. Also, the game relies a bit too much on chance. I don't mind it too much, but when you are tearing it up in the mini games and you still lose because of landing on random events that take away half of your stars you feel a bit cheated. As long as you're not taking it too seriously you'll still have a blast playing with friends and family.
The game looks great. How a mario game should look. You'll here a lot of the familiar tunes and character noises as well(for good and bad depending on who you are), and there's a lot of variety to the mini games. Not all of them are great, but there's enough to enjoy.
If you are looking for a game to play with others then definitely give Mario Party 9 a shot.
