Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
The Guilty Gear franchise has always prided itself in its steep learning curve, and GG XX:AC is no exception. Most special techniques require quarter-circle and/or half-circle rotations on the control stick, which can leave people new to the fighting game scene scratching their heads. This is the sort of game that you need to spend a decent amount of time practicing before you'll really reach your stride. There's nothing more painful than watching two people who have never played GG try to make two characters work.
The anime-style graphics will be grating to some gamers, but I feel that it sets the tone and style of the game quite well. The voices were kept in their original Japanese, which helps keep the feel of the original games. Aksys realizes that not everything they import needs to be dubbed.
This is a game that any hardcore fighting game fan will like, but few will have the desire to broach the challenge of learning how this game works.
Let me start off by saying that I was at my local Gamestop and in a bit of a hurry. With the game I was searching for out of stock, I selected one at random. As you can guess, this is the game I picked up. I brought it home and reluctantly put the disk in my Wii (hoping that this game wouldn't be a bomb like the last one I bought). I got into playing the game, and I was hooked for hours. The graphics were brilliant and so were the characters. They all had their own uniqueness that made it almost impossible to mistake one for the other. If you care to hear, I'll list my favorite characters and their reasons below. My favorite for looks is Anji Mito because guys with fans kick butt. Even though he's questionable in ways, his character design is attractive but not obnoxiously flashy. For gameplay, my favorite is Bridget. She's easy to use and figure out. Plus, the use of yo-yos as a weapon makes her even more awesome when it comes to fighting. My absolute favorite for many reasons is Faust. He's a doctor with a paper bag on his head. He's twice as tall as everyone else and carries around a giant scalpel. How much better could he get? The controls are fairly easy, except when picking a character. If you move the slightest bit, your character is picked for you, so you have to stand extra still while doing that. I also didn't like the lack of storyline (which there is none of). It's just fighting. There are no unlockables (that I know of). Well except for the usual unlockable art and movies, but who cares about those really? A few things I'd like to point out, if I may, is that they didn't English dub it, which is pretty cool, they use "Let's Rock" instead of "Fight!", and if the characters have some sort of relationship, the opening to their fight is different. I love small features like that since it makes overall gameplay more interesting. The art is wonderful, the moves are tremendously great. It can be quite challenging. I'd recommend this to anyone that loves a great fighting game and something to play every once in a while.
Bringing on a New Guilty Gear!
This game overall is a good game for hardcore gamers. This new guilty gear, xx accent core plus, brings on a whole new perspective to it. With two new characters, and tons of fighting moves, this game really fits its topic. The graphics are excellent and so are the character's voices. Although there are many positive outcomes of this game, it lacks the appeal of the gamer. When I have played this game over and over again, I got really bored and tired of it, so I just stopped playing it for about 4 months. Also, I was very dissapointed with its story mode, because it is WAYYYY different than the other series of guilty gear. The story mode has no purpose; in fact, it doesn't even have a story at all. It seems as if the characters are just simply fighting, well, because they just feel like it. There aren't any rivals depicted in this game, so it really doesn't matter who you fight in story mode, its all just randomly selected. Other than that, this game was very solid, and a great fighting game for hardcore gamers. But, I do believe that if you think this game is OK, or if you don't really love it, then it will not last efficiently for you, and then you probably would want to return it. But, if you really love it, then I believe it will last for a decent amount of time. Also, one thing that people will definitely love about it is the new characters, because they have AMAZING moves. I won't ruin anything for you now, so I recommend you buy this game.
