Product Details:

The highly rated Nintendo GameCube game, created by the same team that developed Super Mario Galaxy, returns with enhanced motion controls and new surprises.

  • The Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers put Donkey Kong's actions right in players' hands. Players use buttons and motion controls to move through the game. When it comes time to box with bosses, players punch with both hands.
  • As Donkey Kong, players brave a jungle adventure by swinging, soaring, swimming and using acrobatic moves. But the goal isn't to run through levels as quickly as possible - the real skill lies in stringing moves together to travel like a daredevil, touching the ground as little as possible.
  • The game's imaginative worlds now have many areas partially redesigned to take full advantage of the new Wii controls. Newcomers will enjoy its fantastic jungles, dazzling caverns and wondrous seas, while fans of the original will discover fresh thrills as they take on the challenge of the new controls.

Game storyline: Donkey Kong sets out to prove he's king of the jungle and beyond. He rampages through lava caves, savage seas and crazy locales like a ninja-chimp fortress. Only when Donkey Kong defeats all the kings of his world - by boxing with apes, rabid warthogs, ballistic elephants and giant birds - can he call himself king.

Players who traveled the lands of the original Donkey Kong Jungle Beat will notice some changes to the kingdoms, such as additional enemies and obstacles, plus features like Skull Stones, Shock Spheres and classic Cannon Barrels. In addition, new monkey friends appear on many levels. Helper Monkeys give hints about how to survive the kingdoms and score more bananas, while Checkpoint Monkeys let players restart from midway through a level with their checkpoint banana total intact. The game also includes two surprises at the end: a boss-rush against all the Kongs and a victory feast for Donkey Kong once he has become the king of everything.

How to progress through the game: Players run, jump, swim, battle, swing on vines and collect bananas as they explore beautiful side-scrolling environments that span volcano caves, snowy peaks and fantastic skyscapes. Players also must hitch rides on parrots and killer whales, bounce off pinball-like obstacles and battle tons of bizarre enemies. Players collect bananas as they go, but the real trick lies in building up combo multipliers. This is done by linking different mid-air moves like vine swings, backflips and wall springs to avoid returning to the ground. If players sustain a combo in mid-air, all bananas collected during the combo are multiplied by that combo, which leads to much higher banana scores.

Characters: Donkey Kong, little monkey pals and ridable animal friends, like the wildebeest Hoofer and killer whale Orco. Dozens of outlandish enemies, like bloated Bumblebuzzes, speedy Ninjapes and the runaway-train-like Iguanagons.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Players control Donkey Kong's running, jumping and banana grabbing by using the control stick and buttons. Motion controls turn a player's hands into Donkey Kong's hands - moving the Wii Remote and Nunchuk gives the realistic feeling of grabbing vines, boxing or unleashing a powerful sound-wave clap.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good game but too short. This was the first game I got when I purchased my wii. For that reason it took me about a week to beat the game the first time. Once I understood how to use the controller and nunchuck better, it took me only 1 1/2 hours to beat the game. I enjoyed what little game play there was. I think the graphics are nice and the audio was ok. Overall it isn't a bad game, just don't pay too much for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Shake that Wii Remote This game brings some serious punch to Nintendos lineup. Swinging high above the treetops, swimming in tropical seas and running through icey caverns - and oh - did i mention the absolutely epic boss battles?! This game is not exactly "classic" Donkey Kong, there are plenty of mario-ish moves like the ground pount, wall jump, and back flip, but it is a stellar game nonetheless. If you crave a more classic experience, DK Country Returns is your game, but personally, i love this game. Only gripe is that it is much too short... Definitely worth your purchase if you like DK and/or Mario games!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Jungle for an Upgrade My Favorite Game of All-Time, Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. I have never played it for GCN, Bongos looks fine, but I heard about it by the "New Play Control" Lineup of Games. With some changes they made, it came a Great Concept for a comeback. While the Story can take under a "Day", theres always Replayability by getting 3 Crests (4 in Original) each Level unlocking more Worlds along with Extras like a "Boss Battle" (Kongs only). Gameplay is very Fun with Platforming with Combos with the Kong Battles as the Best Part of the Whole Game. The Controls are well for the Wiimote. The Game Engine is Fantastic by "Nintendo EAD Tokyo" of the "Tokyo Development Group" which also did "Super Mario Galaxy 1/2" seeing how Fluid Gameplay represents, 2D is always enjoyable for Donkey Kong. Lots of Worlds, great Replay Value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It is sooo addicting I was looking for a change from sports games when I spoke with the game stop staff. The more I was told about the game, the more exciting I got and I just couldn't wait to get it home. It is so much fun and the graphics are great, remote reactions are right on once you get the hang of the motions. A great change from the sports scene and even better for original Donkey Kong fans. Learning the tricks, experimenting with the hand motions are fairly easy. One of the best parts is actually getting to beat up the bosses, it makes it so much fun and a bit of a workout too without even realizing it. There is no timer to compete against you just take your time and get all you can get. I have recommended this game to friends and have told them how much fun I have with it. Thumbs up to this new game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DK RETURNS! Though you can't pick a lot of characters, DK himself is great with so many different moves. Sound is great and better bringing Country 1, 2 and 3 back to life. Graphics rock, best side scroller game for wii! New controls are a lot easier and really fun for wii. New players can get the controls easily too. So far, so good. Original DK fans, this your chance to kick Kritter and Kreeper butt again, with the new wii control it feels like actually you are boxing bad guys. I'm a boxer and boy do I say that's good as my sport! Get this game even if you're a newcomer, best of '09! I received this on the day it came out. And all my friends who think DK's background is dull from the old DK games, loved this compared to mario. Hey, who could blame them, mario galaxy creators had made this. And let me say both are GREATLY SUCCESSFUL!
