Test Chamber - Performing Like A Pop Star In Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

by Kimberley Wallace

Recently, we got hands-on Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, so we could discuss our biggest takeaways. However, we're not done. We also wanted to give you the chance to see the game in action.

Editor Javy Gwaltney joined me to watch some of my gameplay footage and chat more about the game. This Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem crossover is all kinds of zany, so we just had to show off some of the crazy enemies, cutscenes, and dungeons. Get ready for a performance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A game perfect for those waiting for Persona 5 Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a game that specifically caters to fans of RPGs, Persona series, and people who love Japan. While the entire game is in Japanese with English subtitles which could cause some to be turned off it didn't impact me or the gameplay at all while I was playing. With this game being a mashup of both Fire Emblem and Shin Megami it leans much more heavily towards the Shin Megami side with a few elements of FE added here and there mostly related to combat and leveling up. Overall if you are a fan of JRPG's this is a good game to pass the time with and worth while. The only problems I see with this game is the removal of content and information changes in order to cater more to American standards but luckily no extra dungeons or gameplay was stripped.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Game! Got the game for my daughter and I as we are big FE and SMT fans. We are both enjoying playing it very much. You are basically getting to play an anime. Really enjoying the music as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Persona-lite This game was surprisingly solid. I went into the game expecting a very simplified version of the Shin Megami formula and that is exactly what I got. Tokyo Mirage Sessions looks and plays fantastically, I was very surprised to see the Wii U pumping out graphic quality that would rival the other current gen consoles. It has a very anime inspired style but I feel most people looking into or interested in this game will know that long before reading any reviews on the product. Its character and monster designs are fresh and interesting but it does not take long to start running into pallet swaps which I am quite used to in a JRPG. Instead of having multiple creatures you can draw power from you are conjoined with a character from the Fire Emblem franchise and they act as your weapon. These weapons can be transformed into more powerful versions requiring items dropped from monsters. The cool thing is both foes and team mates are represented by the Fire Emblem weapon wheel. Swords beating axes, axes beating spears, spears beating swords, and bows kill flying. Mixing this with the typical SMT battle system of weakness exploitation and you make on very fluid system. Before hitting an enemy with a weakness allowed you to attack again, in this one a team based attack can take placed called a session. This adds a new layer of strategy that makes the game feel new yet familiar. My only and I mean only complaint is there are no English VO's. Atlus has at there disposal some of the most fantastic voice actors. While this is a minor issue for most, for me I just didn't care for the Japanese voice acting, its not bad but I lose the sense of immersion that I would otherwise get. Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a great game and one ALL JRPG fans should play!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ANIME STORMS THE WII U! This game is simply Wow! Not only did they keep the original japanese voices using english subtitles, the music in this game is PHENOMENAL. I had pre-ordered this game a while back and waited and waited for it to finally be released. I highly recommend the collector's edition because you're going to want all of the art and soundtrack included. The DLC codes and sticker sheet are a nice touch. :) Gameplay is fantastic whether it's battling or main story conversations I can't stress how beautiful this game is. Way to go Wii U another solid title added to your collection.
