Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ahhh my childhood I bought this game with the Wii U. I played Super Mario Kart in the Super Nintendo so this is a great game for me. All different tracks. Good characters. Weapons are on point. Great game.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Update prevents me from playing the game I was super excited to play this with my family. However, I had to download an update for the game in order to play it. "Fair enough", I thought. But it wasn't fair at all! After downloading the update (and at less than 1 MB/s, it wasn't insignificant), the disk was suddenly rendered unreadable. That was weird, because my WiiU recognized the disk initially in order to download the update. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the update four times, but it was the same result every time. I don't know what's wrong, but if you know a way around this, then go ahead and get the game. If you don't, then have your return slip at the ready. Or have more tech-savvy friends than I do. Either way, the only reason I gave it such poor ratings was because I was required to give ratings by the GameStop review system. It might be a fantastic game, but I have no current way of knowing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Mario Kart Game I Ever Played I got this game on the day it came out and, all I can say for this game is WOW. Just wow. Amazing graphics, great tracks for both nitro and retro courses, awesome music (Because it is orchestrated which is amazing for a kart racing game), nice characters to choose from, the DLC is great, and N64 Rainbow Road in this game is the best remake for that course I ever saw in my life. The music, the way it looks, all of the stuff in the remade N64 Rainbow Road is just amazing. In conclusion, Mario Kart 8 is the best Mario Kart game I ever played and the best Mario Kart game overall. MK8 beats the previous 7 games.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Worst in the series, but still an ok game... The online in Mario Kart 8 is really bad, the worst of the entire series. You go into a lobby with some people, the game chooses THREE random courses that you can then vote on, and the course with the most votes wins. In any other Mario Kart game (except DS, as online was experimental), you can choose a course you want to play online from a list of ALL the courses in the game. After everyone chooses a course, it picks randomly from the suggestions. This is a HUGE step down from other games in the series, as you have to get lucky to play on the course you want. Another problem I have with this game is the items. You can only hold one item at a time, where in most games you can hold two items at a time. Items are also based on distance from players, rather than position. This means someone in second place can be given three red shells, while someone in 10th place could be given a useless coin item. The last major issue I have with this game is the battle mode. Instead of putting in actual battle courses, they have you battle on the race courses. This is fun, but race courses aren't the best for battling on. Every game with a battle mode other than this one has arenas made specifically for battle mode, and that makes the experience far better. Overall, the game just seems less fun than other games in the series with many downgrades. It's not a bad game, but it's far from an amazing game. I'd say the only reason this is worth getting is if you have friends to play online with, or can play local multiplayer. Play through the 50cc single player to unlock all the cups, then play with your friends on different tracks. It is not worth $60 in any way at all, get it used, wait for the price to go down, get it bundled with your Wii U (like I did), or don't get it at all.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from New game, same old AI, but worse oh what do we have here? the next title in the long running mario kart series, if you thought mario kart on the WII and 3DS was annoying and hard, then just play this and you will understand, i forget how it was on the original wii but i do remember it on the 3DS and omg its worse here, even in just 50cc, the easiest setting for new players yet the AI is cheap and will find ways to mess you up and will make you mad, numerous times ive gotten hit by shells and lighting and it makes me mad, the stupid AI spams on the player when your in first place, its extremly annoying and i hate it. you no longer get 10 second warning but 1 second, ONE second warning before you get hit, are you kidding me nintendo? thats so unfair >:c a shield would be very welcome to the game as i am very tired of getting a raging spam storm on me while im raceing and doing good. the AI freaks out when your doing good and in first giving ai racers random shells to toss at you. but other then that its a good game but my god annoying. so what are the pros? for a system thats not next gen the HD video and audio are great, the gameplay control's are good, the music and everything else is good. alright the characters: inviting animal crossing characters into the game? just no! thats another game over rated, the cross over with link from zelda, YES, i love zelda. as much as im tired of clones, dry bones bowser is awesome. lakitu just another dumb turtle. bringing baby characters, WHY , a clone of a clone to the original adult version character who has clones and baby clones, WHY nintendo. the Vehicles. why is benz cars in the game? why are the car horns, what a sloppy lazy job this was, all the car horns sounds like they got some cheap sound maker toy with its speaker dieing, seriously the horns suck, one sounds like a semi truck, another sounds like a buzzer, raccoon mario as the tail swipe sound, bowser has a generic rawr. just terrible

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Mario Kart Ever Mario Kart 8 is an achievement for Nintendo. One of the best games for the Wii U, this iteration of Mario Kart not only introduces fun and memorable new tracks, but it also brings back some of the best tracks from Mario Karts of old. The game is without a doubt the best looking game on Wii U. There is so much detail in every single track, character, and kart. The music sounds amazing. Every track is so upbeat and gives you a lot of energy for the race ahead. Not to mention the DLC, which, mind you, is some of the best I've ever seen. For only 11 dollars, you can add another 16 race tracks, as well as several characters and kart combinations. This game has so much replayability, that I still play this game every week. If you want a game with lots of lasting appeal, get Mario Kart 8.
