The creator's idea to make this game is about life and growing up how life will be hard. the blue guys isn't the kkk its a group in japan and that blue cow is a symbol where there where a dairy farm and those 4 cops that beat him up was based on a true story in los Angeles. the game was all true events
Words cannot express this
It cannot be stressed enough how great this game is, I've been a Mother fan since purchasing this for my SNES back in the day, now having an official virtual console release just warms my heart, Those fond memories of Fuzzy Pickles and rock candys will forever be shared in this masterpiece with future generations to come! Thank you Nintendo for finally Re- Releasing this game.
A Game Everybody Should Play
Earthbound is incredible. When I was growing up I knew absolutely nothing about it other than that Ness was from it and that the Starman, Paula, Jeff, and Poo trophies from Super Smash Bros. Melee were related to it. My first time playing it was in July 2013 when it was at last released for the Wii U virtual console, and so I went into the game with a complete blank slate, not knowing what to expect at all. I almost feel like that is the way everybody should play it, but if you'd like to know what you are getting into, I will provide a brief review of the game. You play as a 10-year old "American" named Ness (you are able to give him whichever name you'd like). A meteor crashes into the Earth right outside your home, and from it a strange alien sets you off on a quest to save the world from the evil entity known as Giygas. The game plays as a turn-based RPG (in fact, the famous turn-based RPG Pokemon franchise is actually based off of Earthbound), in which you fight enemies using weapons such as baseball bats and yo-yos, in addition to Ness' psychic powers. The game may seem light-hearted at times, but it gets dead-serious. The creator of the game meant for Ness' home country of Eagleland to be a parody of the United States, and with that comes hamburgers, hospitals, bands, busy streets, and friendly people, as well as corrupt police, wicked cults (*cough*KKK*cough*), prostitution, and--no joke--abortion. This is a game that I believe every single child on the face of the Earth should play, and every adult who didn't get to play it must play it too. Huge essays have been written about how masterfully made this game is. The entire game is self-aware and never tries to trick you (for example, when it says "wait three minutes" it LITERALLY means you need to wait three minutes). The music is incredible and weird (and ground-breaking when it originally came out in the '90's). The graphics are bizarre and quirky. But to me, the absolute best thing about this game is how it takes real, serious, adult issues and presents them to children. It ASKS children to grow up. Even as an adult, you feel more mature coming out of the game than you do going into it. And it presents more than just corruption and cults. You get from Earthbound whatever you put into it. Try to avoid all the enemies? Okay, but Ness will never be strong enough to save the Earth. Be brave and fight your fears? Ness will be stronger than you ever could have imagined. The game's story never pushes you anywhere. You can beat a boss and be done with the game; you'd be able to enjoy everything you have seen and revisit everywhere you've been so far. But if you stop right there, you will never beat Giygas. You will never save the world. You'll be able to explore everywhere you have been before, but eventually you will get bored--that is how the game tells you it is time to move on, rather than through elaborate cutscenes. Anyway, I would recommend Earthbound to every single person I know. It isn't my favorite game, but it jumped right up there into my top 5, and I think everybody, young and old, can find something amazing in it. It is the closest a video game has ever been to art.
This is the most amazing game I've ever played. I loved every second of it on the Super Nintendo and fell in love with it all over again on the Wii U.
1million/1million if I could
This game could possibly be the best game ever, (my opinion, keep in mind.) It makes fun of what an RPG is, while being just stand alone great. It it has a dark but silly plot, but it cant take itself seriously. It is very fun. Now if only they would release Mother 3 in the west.... Earthbound is my favorite game of all time, and if you haven't tried it yet, I don't know what isolated place you've been livin' in, but seriously though, try it.
A great game
I'd like to say this game is a great reason to buy a Wii-U (or at least a reason to consider purchasing one)...I've had been looking out for a deal on the SNES cartridge for 2 years, and honestly didn't think the asking price of $150-200 was worth it......sooooooo I bought a used Wii-U for $200 and downloaded this game for $10! (which I personally would recommend since there are a great amount of Wii-U and Wii games to be played).......................I think this game is awesome!!!! I think it definitely lives up the the hype that has been created over this. I personally missed out on this game during my childhood, so SMRPG will always remain my favorite 16-bit RPG, but I can now say EarthBound is my definite second favorite. I would recommend this game to ANYONE who is a fan of the 16-bit era and who enjoys RPGs in general. Its a very humorous, well thought-out and just overall fun RPG...if you missed out on this, you owe it to yourself to at least try it out!.....I personally got around 30 hours of content out of this game, thats worth the 10 dollars in my honest opinion. ...And as I stated it is just another good reason to purchase a Wii U. I hope my input has helped! Great Game!!
