Child of Light
As dark as night, as day is bright...
Do yourself a favor and pick up this game. Ubisoft has created a masterpiece veiled in an indie category and (thankfully) stamped with a low price tag. There are so many things to enjoy about this game. For one, the entire game is prose - beautifully written poetry that runs the gambit of emotion from happy to sad from the opening to the closing. A chilling story, yet classic tale of love and loss, family and friendships, Child of Light tugs at your heartstrings and keeps you engaged the entire time. Character development is top notch and you'll find yourself rooting for Aurora (the main character) time and time again. As for a how it plays on the Wii U... the gamepad does not serve any other purpose other than a second screen and controller. No additional features here, but that didn't bother me. Also, you cannot use the Wii U Pro controller, but that's fine. The soundtrack is addicting. It's tone is beautifully tragic and I can't stop listening to it on Spotify a week after I've finished the game. You can practically feel the sadness in each note struck on the piano. The gameplay is platformer style and makes you feel like you're playing through a painting. Regarding difficulty, it starts off easy enough then slowly becomes somewhat challenging. It took me about 10 - 12 hours to complete. The art design is phenomenal. It's menu system and battle system feel very unique. It's an RPG with fresh flavor. Leveling up is not a chore and it feels great along the way. Once you're finished you'll be in awe of how amazing it was. Trust me. As for replay value, that will be up to you. There isn't a "new game plus", but they do allow you to explore more. For me, I'm not touching it just yet because I'm still digesting the ending so I'd rather not go through it again. That said, it's a must have for Wii U owners.
