Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 - 8GB
Great tablet for the price with great battery life
There are many tablets that are fighting for this price point and the best two are the new Nexus 7 which seems to be more geared for gamers and then we have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0" which seems more geared as a PIM (Personal Information Management) device that also does work pretty well in most areas of everyday use with a long battery life and easy to hold in a single hand. There are some pros and cons and I will share those of what I've observed. Pros; great color on the LCD display which also means no pen tile eye strain and adding to overall battery life. Home key similar to that of the latest flagship Galaxy S series phones and also easy for someone who has been used to the home key on Apple iOS devices. Improved front facing camera over the Tab 2 (rear camera remains the same at 3MP). Expandable memory up to an additional 64GB with the SDXC card format. Works with most Android apps and games including apps designed for phones. Other off brand tablets in this price range will not let you install any of them from Google Play. Stereo speakers (they seem to be an afterthought though as they are at the bottom if you were holding the Tab in portrait mode making a movie still much better with headphones. Speaking of movies, the built in IR blaster is quite handy with the WatchOn application. It will work with pretty much any TV out there and even menu commands on my BD player as well which are both Sony. The app acts as a real time guide that you would find on any cable or satellite provider but when it comes to OTA channel listings, it misses a few channels that it refuses to tune in automatically from the guide on the app itself. It also has FC'd a couple times on me. Finally, a normal microUSB port.... The cons. Upon first startup, there is a lot of bloat ware that already starts updating the moment you connect to your wireless internet. Only 8GB of storage which in reality after the OS and various Samsung Apps, you're lucky to have around 5GB (thank goodness for a microSD expansion slot!). The other drag is the bare minimum out of the box experience. (Once you do register your Tab 3 though, you get $10 credit for Google Play, a plus there) no headphones nor basic case, be ready to spend a bit extra if you want to keep your Tab 3 looking new. I can't speak for the dark brown metallic looking model but even the all white model like mine is a fingerprint magnet. The last con is somewhat of mixed feelings. This model of the 7" Tab 3 (T-210R) uses a uncommon GPU which can make or break a game in big ways. It's technically superior than the Tab 2 by a long ways, but for some games that use OpenGL 3.0 or advanced shaders, are completely broken. Much simpler games and or older games seem to do well enough but it's really not the intended market for the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 In summary, this is a great couch surfing companion and a decent choice for school or work. The display is only 1024x600 which most phones surpassed long ago but Samsung did make the most of the LCD and it provides an amazing picture in some games or movies via Netflix. So this is a great all purpose device. It does many things very well but if you're looking for a small screen gaming tablet, this is not the Tab you're looking for. If you're looking for a excellent media player along with a email and internet device in a small form factor, the Galaxy Tab 3 is truly a great bargain and a wise choice.
I've been needing a new tablet to replace my 2.0 android and I happen to see this one and I'm so glad I got it! Its not too heavy, the cameras are pretty good too, the battery life lasts a while depending on how much you use it per day. The only cons are some flickering on the screen but that's part of the power saving when you bring the brightness down. Also you almost pay near to what the original price was.
Good for school
I just bought this Samsung galaxy tab 3 7.0 8GB, just yesterday, I opened it and everything and then setting up the device is very easy. Bought this tablet for school use and light gaming. This is a great tablet to use on the go, small, compact and portable. It is a fast device. Good thing with this that it has expandable memory, where you can transfer and put all your books, music, videos, movies, and photos on your micro sd card. If you are a hardcore gamer, this tablet is not for you, this tablet is more of like light games as in angry birds, temple run etc. This Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 8GB is more of a basic tablet like web surfing, checking your email, reading books, playing light games etc. Just not hardcore gaming lol. This is an Excellent tablet for beginners, for kids, and someone looking for a basic branded tablet. I am very satisfied with this tablet, thank you Samsung.
