In a nutshell, this game is Assassin's Creed mixed with Grand Theft Auto with hacking. A third-person shooter focused on the fictional technologically stunning system controlling and keeping Chicago under surveillance, Watch Dogs is a very exiting game, with specific personalities and emotions tied to every character, making it easy to identify with, sympathize with, or despise every single character. Some of the glitches can throw you off, for sure, in some cases, causing you to have to restart at your last autosave, but this game is far too fun for a small thing like that that to bother you too much. The mood-setting music has a definite impact on the way you feel about each situation. Honestly, I have no idea whatsoever this game's major negative critics are talking about, because this game is just as good, if not better, than GTA 4 in my opinion, and everyone loves that game. Despite what some say, I do not see this game as a waste of money at all.
Watch Dogs has always looked amazing in my eyes. This game is going to blow people's minds when it hits stores this May and I can't wait to see how they utilize the PS4's power. After seeing gameplay footage after gameplay footage, I cannot wait for this game. Buying the Limited Edition just to show my support for the franchise, I'm super excited. Though I wish there was a edition in which you were given Aiden's cap, I will be okay with the Vigilante Mask as I will be running around in my cosplay jacket, acting as if I'm actually Aiden Pearce. If anyone is wondering if they should get this game, you need to get this game when it comes out.
Excellent AC and GTA fix! (spoilers)
Are you like me and prefer the open world sandbox to the linear blandness of a shooter? (Wolfenstein excluded) If so, you are probably an assassins creed fan, most likely a GTA fan, and definitely looking forward to Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor; but you are stuck in the pit of time and you need a fix now, am i right? Well look no further cause buddy this is basically assassins creed! Sure you have cars, hacking, and giant spider tanks, but a few story tweaks and throw a hidden blade and a dash of Abstergo and viola! You have yourself an ac title! (and quite frankly ded-sec and ct-os felt a lot like assassins and templars) ---------------You begin the story as hacker and vigilante, Aiden Pearce in the middle of a digital heist in faux-Chicago's famous luxury hotel, the Merlaut, owned by the story's main antagonist, Dermont "Lucky" Quin. Our hero discovers he and his partner are not alone and make a break for it. Following the failed heist, the mysterious third hacker orders a hit on Pearce. On his way to Pawnee with his sister, niece, and nephew, the hit-man shoots out Pearce's car tire causing the vehicle to roll killing Lena, Aidens young niece. As any loving uncle would, our hero gets regally P/Oed and sets out for revenge. Along the way he confronts everyone from gang-members to a serial killer, kicking butt and taking names (along with cars and account info) along side the notorious hacker collaboration "ded-sec", a punk rock computer wiz Clara, and the legendary creator of ct-os, Raymond Kenny.----------over all I feel that it is an excellent game with an original story, well rounded characters ( well, Aiden's constant Batman voice gets old quick), and great graphics; BUT i still feel like its missing something. I give it a solid 7.5 out of 10, definitely worth the money, but when ACU or GTA comes out don't be afraid to trade.
Watch dogs is the product of what happens when you overhype a game to the point where its unbelievable. I pre ordered back in july of last year, 2013. It was my most anticipated game of the year right untilthe point it actually came out. Watch dogs did not Exceed my expectations nor did it satisfy me as a paying customer. The story in watch dogs was incredibly weak. The characters were bland and boring, and the only memorable character was this super hacker named T-Bone. The main protagonist himself, Aiden Pierce, was incredibly boring as the story went through. It takes place in a sort of modern day, yet somewhat futuristic Chicago, where he goes after a man wih his hacker team, who supposedly killed his niece and is holding his sister hostage. The plotline to the game is one that is set up well and has alot of potential, but falls flat in the final execution. As the for the graphical capability, watch dogs is not next gen. The game didn"t look bad in any way shape or form,it just didn't look like something you'd exept to see on a playstation 4, meaning the last gen version was even worse. In gameplay standard however, watch dogs is a fantastic expirience. Everything from gunplay to driving feels fast, fluid, and responsive. there is just one thing that threw me off about it was how there were no melee options or hand to hand combat available within the game. Other than that, watch dogs is a great game, that deserves to be picked up and i would recommend it to a friend. If Ubisoft plans on continuing the new IP, then some recommendations for next time would be to not try so hard to make the charcters so dark and mysterious and some color and variety to the game with the characters. Overall, watch dogs isn't bad, it's a great game that just needs a little fixing. With the latest video trailer from the PlayStation version I have only one question. What is the GameStop bonus? Both items listed come with the PlayStation version with or without GameStop, and a white hat hacker outfit. Disappointed that GameStop is first advertising as if this were exclusive to GameStop and again that they don't actually have anything to offer.
Awesome Graphics But Just Plain Boring.
This game had too much hype about it. I pre-ordered it and what a waste. I'm not usually a hard critic on games either. There hasn't been many games i haven't liked or enjoyed, but this one was BAD. It has an open sandbox concept with a story to follow whenever you wish to, but its not like a GTA or Assassins Creed. Those games you could wander around and explore and do things that were fun and you didn't get tired of it, then proceeded with main missions when you wanted or when you stumbled across them. This game was similar but honestly it was so boring i couldn't stand it. I just tried getting to the main mission as fast as possible so i didn't lose my mind, but then nothing changed cause the story line sucks. Save your money and borrow it from a friend, if you can even find one that kept the game. Notice how many "pre-owned" copies of Watch Dogs there are in Gamestops? Seriously though, save your money and get The Last of Us, or the new CoD AW / AC Unity coming out this November!
What a let down...
This game was one of the reasons i bought a PS4 on launch day. Unfortunately it had been delayed on launch (go figure). The game COULD have been great, but came up short. The shooting mechanics work well, same as the free running, but the hacking failed on every level. It's hard to gain money at first for upgrades, but half way through the game you have so much money, but nothing to spend it on due to the lackluster amount of items to purchase. This game really needed an customization system for weapons. After beating the campaign and a majority of side missions, this game quickly became a paper weight. Online is boring and unfulfilling. You are penalized for shooting civilians or cops, so guns are useless after you beat the campaign. Not to mention the Chicago world they created is dull and lifeless. Not to mention it is nothing like Chicago in real life, 100 mph down lake shot drive during the daytime? Yeah okay... I know it's a game but bring some realism to it, make it interesting at some kind of level.
Nothing more than a good game
When I was awaiting the release of watch dogs I was anticipating a potential goty. When I played it for the first hour I was assuming the unparalleled gameplay and groundbreaking mechanics were soon to come. They never came. Watchdogs was unfairly overhyped, in the process it let down many fans. In all fairness however it truly is a decent game behind all the let downs. The game has a long lasting skill tree that seems to be almost impossible to complete, and each skill offers interesting abilities. Hacking can make for some entertaing attacks. The story as well is fairly integrating. The game all in all is not so bad. The reason this isn't some one of a kind, blockbuster thrill is that it lacks an x factor. Remember when uncharted was first released? Or The Last of Us for that matter? Those games are journeys of a caliber that will never quite be met again. Why you ask? It is because of those indiscernible moments, those undescribable scenes, where you sit back in your chair and lose all notions of your surroundings, while feeling entirely integrated in the game and just for a moment say wow. I'm talking about the cinematic moments, the ones that qualify for the big screens. I am talking about where you are no longer playing a game, I am talking about when you are running from gunshots or leaping from cliffs, this is something watch dogs never delivered. Yes I was entertained, the game was fun, and I'd reccomend it, but it is no escape from reality, it is nothing that strays from the norm. I'd buy it and play through for aman enjoyable adventure, but don't expect anything astonishing. 7/10 A decent play.
Decent, but a bit disappointing
This game was good for what it was, but it was a bit of a let down, This Game was supposed to be the new bar for next gen gaming it was so hyped I was expecting my mind to be blown and it just wasn't. The graphics were good, but not anything you couldn't get on a ps3, the hacking and gameplay got repetitive really fast, and it just didn't hold my interest very long. Maybe my expectations were to high, I was expecting a game that would revolutionize game like a GTA, Assassin's Creed, or Halo type game, you know what I mean. Instead it will be that game that I beat once and lost interest in and will spend the rest of eternity collecting dust while I watch SOA reruns on netflix.
Doesnt live up to expectations
I was really hoping for a lot from what I thought was going to be the first major showing of the PS4's power. But I was greatly disappointed. The graphics were the initial disappointment. No real leap from last gen consoles. Gameplay was smooth enough, but there are definitely a lot of bugs, areas that you cant climb up on or jump over. At one point I got bored and shot someone in their car on a bridge to initiate a little GTA massacre scenario (GTA obviously being the heaviest influence on this game), and the police never came. I walked the length of the bridge shooting everyone in their cars and if they happened to get out, the game would glitch and not let you kill them, but act as if you did kill them. Yeah, lots of bugs that should have been worked out. Dialogue is weak. Honestly, if this hadnt been the first big game on PS4 it might have stood a little better, but its honestly just disappointing and not worth purchasing at all. Multiplayer? Wouldnt know, I can never connect, always says a NAT issue (reading other comments online, and its pretty common)
