Great Visuals, Poor Gameplay
Thief was a game I was really excited for. Unfortunately after about an hour of game play my expectations were crushed. The story was very confusing and not very strong. The games melee combat is one of the worst I have ever experience, which isn't a big deal for a stealth game, but it still should have been a lot better. Also, it was a little disappointing that you were more a a petty thief when I had expected to play as a master thief. What i mean by that is I was hoping to steal more expensive and meaningful items, not ink wells, vases and pens. The camera angles also interfere sometimes, the city layout is confusing and there are limited uses for Garrets special items. However, the game does have some things going for it. The time period is a great setting for the game which leads to amazing visuals and the sound for a stealth game is great. Also, the actually stealth element was very well done and a lot of upgrades are offered for your equipment. Overall, the game wasn't my favorite, but it was playable. The visuals and sounds were great, but the actual game play and story was sub-par. Not a terrible game, but its definitely not for everyone.
Great game on higher difficulty levels
I do not understand the negative reviews for this game. It is by far better than a 6.4. I guess all people want is a point and shoot. Sure the game has a problem or two. Loading between areas could have been approved and travel from point to point takes awhile but that is part of the challenge of not getting caught. The facial animations and character detail are just average but lighting is great. To me this game was far more enjoyable than Assassins Creed Black Flag. If you try to remain unseen on mid to high difficulty levels and actually complete the challenges, the game presents a challenge. If you want a shooter, do not buy it because you will die! If you want to think a little, buy the game. I experienced none of the controller problems nor frame rate problems I read about in a few other reviews and the load times for me are very short. I noticed many reviews are before the game was even released?
I bought this game after seeing the trailers. The game kept my interest at first, but after about half way through the game it just became very repetitive. I played all the way through game but, it was not too impressed. The graphics were excellent it really should the next gen style. The game play was smooth, and the sounds was good. Like I said, The game just is very repetitive and its one of those game to me that is worth renting or waiting till the price comes down. Its not a $60 value to me.
It was okay the audio was a little off and the story could use a little work. I recommend it to stealth gamer
Long wait for nothing!
Waited a long time for this game. And honestly this game is very disappointing. No fighting just hitting someone with a stick in the head. How fun! Throughout this whole game all you do is press square to steal and that's it. I've played iPad apps that have more action than this. Sorry to say this but SAVE YOUR MONEY. Nice try though.
Mediocre at best!
I gave this game such low ratings, although it is a somewhat fair game. The ONLY thing that was great about this game was the graphics. However, it still falls short ... you will heavily notice sound glitches left and right, a drastic lag when it comes to the cinematics, which is a HUGE disappointment! As for sound glitches it was very annoying to hear some weird type of overlay of the same person talking and the same conversation. Gameplay was okay with sneaking around or attack head-on, depending on your play style, but becomes very repetitive. As for side missions there are really low incentives as to doing them, esp just even trying to find the location for what ... 40 G. What can you even do with that. When I ever play a game side missions area always worth it, just not in this game. I would not suggest getting this game at all until the price drops in the $20 range if not lower than that. Definitely not a must have. I mean, for a game that was supposedly "in development" since 2005-2006 there was not much to show for it. ESPECIALLY with the rushed ending and poor done credits!
A good, but flawed, stealth game
If your a fan of stealth games you should definitely give this game your attention, as the stealth gameplay is extremely well done. It's tense, in-depth and quite fun (especially If you play with a custom difficulty.) But it has it's fair share of problems. The story isn't very good, with iffy voice acting and lip syncing in cutscenes. It mainly serves as a reason for the main character Garrett to go someplace and steal everything there, and the hub world isn't very well laid out and is broken up by constant loading screens (Which is more annoying than it sounds). Despite those flaws, though, I still really enjoy playing Thief because of the great stealth gameplay, with diverging paths and plenty of thieving opportunities. Completing the game with all of the side quests done took me about 16 hours on the normal difficulty. If you like stealth games, definitely pick this one up.
Dishonored's Disappointing Cousin
I really tried to enjoy this game and couldn't. PROS - Good graphics, and there are some interesting ways of breaking into houses. CONS - The novel is short lived. Thieving is fun, but there isn't much of an option for being a violent thief. Hand-to-hand combat mechanics in this game are terrible. The effectiveness of the bow is poor as well, with the opportunity not being as great. The way you thieve is fun for a while, but the way you interact with NPC enemies is terrible. This repetitive game can be so much more. It doesn't build on itself very well as you progress. The "battle" mechanics need to be improved; from the decision to use R1 for melee, to how painstakingly long it takes to knockout an opponent (on master), to how cheap the game feels when in hand-to-hand combat. Dishonored had a good balance between violent and non-violent pathways. This is a less flexible version of that game in my opinion. I am typically not bored with games that others claim to be repetitive, but this game cannot do it for me. Some games I have enjoyed - assassins creed series, elder scrolls, dark souls, 1st person shooters like medal of honor, dishonored, RUSE, madden, etc. I have a pretty wide ranger of interests, and this game just doesn't satisfy any of my broad tolerant needs.
Looking at all the choices at gamestop this cought my eye and brought back memory and when played definitely got my money's worth great game out so far for disc copy
not worth 60bucks
After seeing all the trailers and reading up on the game I thought it might be cool. Since I bought my ps4 it has only served as a highly priced dvd. So getting a new release was exciting. After playing this game a for a few days it really started to get boring really repetitive. As a dedicated stealth game I thought it would of been a lot better, lets face it Tom Clansy's Double Agent had a lot better stealth than this game. This game is no more than a wash rinse and repeat. The graphics and sound was good. The controls were clunky.it just wasn't for me.
