Samurai Warriors 4 Empires provides an alternative take on the events depicted in Samurai Warriors 4, using the historical landscape as a setting for an exciting strategy-focused game. Players have the opportunity to create their own character to serve in the lower ranks of the army, gradually rising through the ranks to eventually rule the entire land through their conquests.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely worth playing! I wrote a preview comment while I was waiting on the game and I had the game pre-ordered. I have to say Samurai Warriors 4 empires definitely redeems the empire franchise from Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires. The character interaction is far and beyond anything I was expecting. The gameplay and controls are just like in Samurai Warriors 4 and 4-II. The graphics are beautiful and the music is a lot of the same stuff from Samurai Warriors 4 and 4-II but I love that style of music so I find it relaxing. Although I realize not everyone is the same. The game makes you have to think about strategy and your next move. It also makes you really pay attention to your supplies. But in comparison to Samurai Warriors 2: Empires this game is just as good if not better. The only complaints I have about this game if any is the political system is intuitive but building relationships in the game is a little like micromanaging to the extreme. Koei took what they did in Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires where there was little to no relationship development and went the polar opposite of that. Yes it does add in something a little different than any other empires game but it can get tedious at times when you want to build relationships. My second complaint although it isn't much of a complaint but when playing as a ruler you don't have as much freedom to do what you please. You can't pick your own retainers it's really sort of random out of your army. Really though those things are minor complaints and those things later on can be fixed. The story modes in conquest mode are varied and provide something for everyone. Genesis mode gives you complete free reign on what you want to create and the edit characters you can easily spend an hour or two just making a character with all the choices you have now. There are a lot of new female characters to play and new male characters too. The character exchange system is a very neat thing too which is something completely new to the Empires series. Overall I would recommend any fan of the Samurai Warriors series to play this game. It is an awesome game that I find addicting and hard to put down. It's one of those games you can just immerse yourself in for hours at a time if you enjoy games like Empires. Great gameplay, incredible graphics. Koei did it right with this one!
