Is This Game a Movie?
I have always enjoyed NBA 2K games. The first one I got was NBA 2k2 for the Gamecube, when I was 4 years old, so it's been quite a while
Now I'm no basketball expert. I only played through middle school, and I was pretty bad. But when they started scripting this game like some kind of Hollywood film, I couldn't believe it. In NBA 2k10 and 2K11, it started to seem like some thing were just destined to happen cause the computer said so. But this happens in all sports games a little, and the game mode outweighed it.
Then we get NBA 2K15, which actually has no game modes where you play the game for yourself! They've ditched Association and My Player for "Be a GM" mode and "My Career." And both modes are ridiculously stupid for a sports simulation game. GM Mode is filled with useless drama, and the UI looks like MLB 2K6. But worst of all, My Career is literally a linear story that is the exact same every time, and has nothing to do with basketball, and everything to do with being a soap opera.
NBA is destined to go this way. Live is a steaming pile of dookie too, but I might give it a shot.

SAYING GOODBYE To a ONCE LEGENDARY GAME
It isn't likely that any game designer can create significantly newer content in the stretch of one year, and 2k16 is NOT going to be an exception to that rule (if you will.) Let me first make it known that I have been a fan of 2K since it was only $20.00 ~AND A MUCH BETTER AND LIKEABLE GAME. That was when the games weren't so scripted (AND YES - MY PLAYER IS THE MOST LINEAR AND SCRIPTED GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED,) And this was also before 2K took on a more HOLLYWOOD approach. My brother and I used to call each other with, "Man you're not gonna' believe this dunk my guy just threw down!"
Now, it's more, "Is 2K REALLY* serious? I mean really?
It was one of the earlier 2K's (Pre 2k9 - because that was when things started to go downhill) that I actually learned to be a better point guard from this game.
Stop with the jump passing and slow things down on offense to make sure my team gets a good shot off.
Now, 2K is all about clothing and plugging in celebrities who have NOTHING AT ALL to do with the game of basketball, save a measly contribution to some laughable soundtrack. 2K is more about bling and earrings to decorate your MyPlayer, and no more about the game of basketball. There is even a FLOPPING button option.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Seriously?
Beyond that, the MyPlayer option is the biggest joke of all and since WHEN did it become okay to NOT put defense in a game that is heavily reliant upon it?
Sifting through the MYPlayer option, you're not allowed to play defense at all - in any way shape or form. And if you DO* come up with a steal or a block - well guess what? The computer had that written in there... It was going to happen regardless.
I don't understand how this game can take out SO MANY ELEMENTS of this wonderful sport - and still claim to be a basketball simulation of the real thing - much less the NUMBER 1 rated game! I guess a great deal of that has to do with there being no competition.
As I've stated before and I'll state it again, 2K FAILS at the game of basketball, and those who might and will object either don't know the game, or are in serious denial.
Sorry 2K but, I'm throwing in the towel from here on out. Until you're able to PLAY this game as basketball is played, and you're not following some script - 2K is a fail. Even the MYPark option is a simple RUN AND OUTGUN your opponent.. NO teamwork or anything.
And taking DEFENSE out of basketball would be like taking catching gloves out of baseball... It just wont work....
Get some people who KNOW this game and 2K will surely be a hit... Until then, I'm done
