Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome very addicting game. This game is the most addicting game I've played since Pokemon. IT IS ALSO A WALLET BLACK HOLE. Buuuttttt enough about the bad. While you do pay alot for power up discs, characters and play sets. There is still aton to do. This game plays like skylanders. But you can make your own worlds or if you Aren't good at it (Like me) you can download more levels others have created. If you decide to wait that's good too because 3.0 is coming out soon and you can still use anything you buy for this on that. Plus Star Wars! But if you can't wait, this is perfect for kids and adults alike. Note: Buy ALL the figures and unlock their statues to get Luke Skywalkers landspeeder in game. Internet connection and Disney online account are needed to make this game work. However if you don't have an account, the game will send you to the website to create one. It takes about 5 - 10 minutes and is free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun Sandbox, Bland Grind I bought this game with several additional figures and power discs for my kids for Christmas. I had been curious about this and the Skylanders series for some time and talked it over with a Gamestop employee. What I gathered from that conversation is that Disney Infinity is more of a jump in and play with whatever you have whereas Skylanders is more of a "gamers" game and would likely prove to be more of an investment. I felt confident buying this game despite not knowing much about it. When I loaded it up and played with my kids, we had fun for a little while but my kids lost interest pretty quickly. I kept on playing and here's what I have concluded about the game: Graphically the game is nice. It's not breaking down barriers but it's not meant to. The character models look just like their figures, the worlds are set to look like Disney themed movies/games and it hits the mark. The sounds in the game are pretty good. Each character has several different lines they'll shout out and differing times in the games, when completing a mission, for example and they stay true to their nature. The musical scores from the Disney movies are also very prevalent. The gameplay is where this game really hits a sore spot for me, which is big since, lets face it, that's what makes a game. Basically the game revolves around you collecting blue sparks to unlock pieces for you to create your own Toy Boxes. A toy box is essentially a world you create yourself (more on Toy Boxes below). You generally collect these blue sparks by completing certain types of game modes; Tower Defense style, Action Adventure style, etc. Combat in the game feels flat with most characters I've played with. You're either mashing triangle for melee or R2 to throw a projectile/fire a gun, occasionally dodging or repelling attacks in between. Each character has a skill tree and levels up via collecting orange sparks. This is where I was hoping to have a lot of variety and interest with the characters but it seems it's all fairly similar across the board. You unlock a super move, a "super jump" or flight ability, more health, stronger attacks, yadda, yadda. There's nothing really in the skill trees that really sets characters apart. It's the same attacks with different particle effects and the gamer in me hates that. Toy Boxes are essentially worlds you create by using the pieces you unlock from completing story modes ,(certain character packs come with a clear plastic piece from their game world in it, this is your story mode for that specific world, ie: Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Toy Story, etc.) challenges modes and more. The problem I find with making my own toy box is that the process isn't explained very well. You're given the tools to create worlds but it's not thoroughly taught, so you can literally spend hours with lots of trial and error trying to make a cool, working toy box. All in all, I keep coming back to the game. I really want to learn how to make interesting and fun toy box games for myself, my kids and others (you can share your creations online) to play but the bland gameplay mechanics make trudging through game modes to get the currency to unlock more pieces tiring and make me wonder if it's worth my time. I say with a focused mind set and a great imagination, you can make awesome things, but it going to take quite a bit of time to have all the tools to get the most fun out of it.
