Great multiplayer; new polish
BF4 has fallen into a bit of a slump in which, similar to the CoD franchise, players expect something different than the previous game they had played. That being said, BF4 is not much different than BF3 and 3 being a good game, this would also be. I am taking it at face value, and not comparing it to BF3.
BF4 is a fantastic game with a strong multiplayer at its core. Fans of modern shooters will instantly recognize the leveling and grinding system that is split into vehicle (M1A1/ A-10), class (Assault/Recon), weapon type (Carbine/Shotgun), and specific weapon (P228/SPAS-12). You gain weapon and class experience from hitting and killing opponents, as well as ribbons for performing some feat ( 3 headshots or so). Even still, leveling up does not seem too important and is something the casual player might ignore. Higher levels unlock different challenges to be done, and if you are a Premium member you unlock accessories for your guns every few levels. The nice thing about that, is while it may not be gratifying to level, your level does not win the firefight for you. Mid-level (20-50) players will have unlocked weapons you won't have at the beginning, but there is no real difference between that level 35 and that level 110 (maximum).
The weapons are responsive, and the bullet-drop is enough that you have to pay attention to it at range. And you will be firing at range, because it is not unheard of for a sniper to perch out at 600-1000 yards and lob bullets in (My longest so far is a 665 yard headshot). Those ranges are far enough out that I do not recommend it, but it is possible and rewarding when you get that hit.
The vehicles are fearsome. A tank with an observant machinegunner can wreak serious havoc, but is still susceptible to infantry with rockets/C4. The jets are fast enough that it is difficult to strafe any ground targets with precision, however their bombs are useful against vehicles, and their missiles are useful against other aircraft. Infantry have all sorts of explosives and rockets, so most of your flight time will be ducking under mountains and popping flares.
The single player campaign is much better than BF3's, and is more about character development and story than the "wouldn't it be cool if_____" that dominated BF3 (and the CoD series). While not a A-budget Hollywood movie, the story is compelling enough that you want to continue playing. On hard, the game should be slightly challenging for veteran FPS players, but it is by no means unfair. There are no waves of enemies that only cease when you reach a certain point (looking at you CoD...), but the enemies do seem to have x-ray vision and know where you are. The game is primarily a vehicle for the online experience, so the single player is more than adequate.
Of course the graphics are phenomenal, and on PlayStation 4, it is very difficult to distinguish the difference between the PC version, with the exception being some texture-pop at the beginning of maps.
It's a great game, buy it if you want a shooter with more than just team deathmatch in mind.
I was not gonna get this game because of all the problems they and the crashes. I thought it is really not worth the money to get a game that has problems. I talked to a few different people at different Gamestop and they said they had no problems. So I bought the game and have not had any major problems it works just fine. Good game.
Pretty fun game to play with friends.
This game kept me busy for a few months but slowly became boring. It is perfect to play with friends
I'm blown away by the graphics!!!!
This game had so much detailed and amazing game levels and the graphics are stunning and I was totally speechless when I first played the game on my PS4. DICE and EA did a great job by putting this game together.
great game, would rate a 10 if dice would update more often so half the time i play it wont tell me im not connected to ea servers even though i can hop on madden and play anytime...
Awesome Game but just shy of Amazing
There is no question that Battlefield on next gen is really awesome with the new engine (frostbite 3) but this game has a lot of glitches that held it back. The single player was very weak with a dumb A.I. system that sometimes forget how to pull the trigger or just stand in the open instead of finding cover. I question on why even including this mode in the game. The game will be much overall better if the team at Dice would all focus on the Multiplayer instead. Moving on to the better portion to the game, the multiplayer. I had a blast playing conquest in the upgraded 64 player servers on the PS4. It truly made the game live up to its tittle "Battlefield". It completely made up for all the bugs in the game. Although I found myself yelling at my TV in rage, the feeling of seeing the red text of my enemy confirming my kill is indescribably amazing feeling.
In all Battlefield 4 is an amazing game and should be picked up by not only FPS fans but any gamer. It did not live up the the potential it has with the countless bugs, its still a very great game and should deserve more credit then it gets. It personally got me to become a fan of this franchise and I hope it does for others too.
Good overall, but could be much better.
I'm not going to include the story in this review because no comes to Battlefield to play the campaign. Now that most of the bugs and issues with the multiplayer have been ironed out, the online is pretty fluid. Not a whole lot to complain about anymore. There are a few things that are noteworthy that should be fixed. For instance, many guns feel way underpowered, while some guns feel over powered. There have been many times where I've nearly emptied a clip into some one, and have them kill me. Also the suppression effect is a little over the top, I can't tell you how many times I've gotten killed because my characters aim was doing a figure eight with the gun. Conquest can get a little hectic sometimes, so I like to roll with Rush. It's the perfect combo between close quarters and large scale warfare. The sound and the graphics on this game are pretty amazing. Explosions and the sun in your eyes really add to the realism here. However, for me personally, I can only play 3-5 full matches at a time until I'm bored. It's not like COD where you can play all night, this game will get stale after a bit. Overall this is a really great game with a few problems that will hopefully be fixed in future games. Don't buy this game if you're really into COD. This game is not for you. Being tactical is what BF is all about.
I have been a Battlefield fan since the beginning and have played across PC, Xbox and Playstation, I didn't think it could get any worse than BF3 but I was wrong because this game is horrible. They have no idea how weapons work or the accessories that can be used with them in real life even though they claim to have done field studies with the weapons to make them as accurate as possible and with all the glitches and problems they continuously have to fix via updates I am sick of Dice giving us half done games and saying oh well we can fix it in the months to come. Snipers are everywhere because of how overpowered they are in this game I used to be a sniper in BF but now it is so overpowered I can't stand to even think of being one and unless your in a vehicle you really stand no chance in this game. If I wanted vehicle only combat fun I would play something like Twisted Metal. I wouldn't recommend this game to my worst enemy.
Battlefield at its best!
Battlefield is a game for all kinds of gamers and is still fun even if you die alot. The game looks beautiful and is enjoyable but EA rushed the game so bugs are still being fixed but entil then the game is excellent!
