Rated 10 out of 10 by chrno9 Noise? what Noise?...works perfectly!
Honestly, I'm surprised by how many people have complained about the "noise" of the fans. Got mine yesterday, and was very impressed with the seamless fit, and it really looks, like it was always meant to be part of the PS4. After, reading some of these reviews; I was preparing myself for a very noisy experience. Once I powered on the system....I barely heard anything! yes, there is a audible noise of fans running, BUT nothing like described by some the other reviewers. I'm starting to think that anyone who is having noise issues with the intercooler...must be placing their unit inside an entertainment unit. The purpose of this add-on was to keep your unit cool, especially when the PS4 is placed into a enclosed space. Anyone, who has done that knows how noisy that can be. My PS4 stands vertically next to my HDTV, and is not at all distracting when the fans are running. Maybe there are a few BAD intercoolers, but it does what it advertises...keeps my unit cool. Very happy I ignored the negative reviews, and bought the intercooler.

Like many of you, i'm interested in this product to hopefully help extend the life of my PS4, especially since I bought mine on day one. I've been following this product since it was announced and the delays are ridiculous. I believe it has been pushed back 6 or 7 times at this point. To be fair, we want the product to fit well and work as advertised, but the delays are frustrating. I actually emailed NYKO, and here was their response (on July 3rd)..."Nyko takes pride in releasing products that match our customers’ expectations of a Nyko product, and our expectations. Since the Intercooler connects directly to the back of the PS4 we take great care to make sure the fit is as seamless as possible, requiring us to make millimeter level changes to our design for the best fit and look. In addition, we test all of our Intercooler products internally and externally, to ensure we are achieving the desired cooling results. These things sometimes take a little longer than we originally anticipate, hence the delays in releasing the product."

fan was very uncomfortably loud, also it seemed that the fan speed controller was very sporadic, I.e. high fan speed when the system was idle, yet under a heavy load playing something intensive it would back off. Originally had purchased to counter a small overheating issue I was having with a day 1 ps4, I eventually purchased a vertical stand, and through testing noticed that just using the added airflow from stand was equal to the intercooler, but without the jet engine taking off in my entertainment room.

So I finally received the ps4 intercooler a couple of days ago (9/1) after many delays. So I figured I'd use it for a few days to give it a fair review. The intercooler itself looks cool and it fits snug to the ps4 without adding too much bulk but it's pretty noisy when up an running. I guess that's what's going to happen when you add additional fans but I'm kinda disappointed at how loud they are. It's not a big deal once you have your games or netflix going, but it's still kinda annoying that I have to turn up the volume on my tv to compensate for the noise of the fans. That being said, these fans do a good job at sucking out the hot air from the ps4. You can really feel the hot air blowing out the back. So I know this intercooler was designed for systems that were to be housed in a cabinet where heat build up can be a problem, and if this is your intention then maybe the noise wont be much of an issue but if you plan on having it placed on the tv stand, out in the open, in front of your bed, you may want to pass on this accessory.
Rated 2 out of 10 by WtP7 Terrible Piece of Hardware; Big Waste of Money
I'll start by saying that I have not noticed a change. I feel little to no airflow from this piece of hardware. But, you know, whatever because every bit could help. The biggest issue is the horrible squealing noise it makes when you fire up the PS4. This does not occur always, but more than half the time. For the first 5 minutes that it is on. It sounds as if something is stuck in the fan, but it is not. Then it will stop with the squealing noise and you just hear the fans. This bothers me because my gaming computer has 4 120mm high performances fans, along with a 200mm and the fan on the GPU, but this so call intercooler is louder than all of these combined. Don't buy this. Most people on the internet will tell you in is useless, because Sony already build the PS4 with all the cooling it requires. But because I am a cooling nut, I went for this and it is a horrible product.

It worked very well at first, but after 4 days it started making an awful sound and is not working much.
Rated 3 out of 10 by Swolecat Cools below par, and always starts extremely loud
Every time I start up my PS4 with the intercooler attached, it sounds like it's broken. It's very loud, but it does always calm down after a couple of minutes of warming up each time. I usually tap it around until it shuts up. Even then though, it doesn't draw away a tremendous amount of heat from the system, and it is a little bit noisy all the time. It is not worth $25. I would say maybe $10.
Rated 6 out of 10 by riopower Not so sure it worth it
Well the idea is good as heating is enemy of all computing system. However it used some cheap motor for the fans and it make horrible grinding sound when PS4 starts. it gets quite after initial boot up. but either it's booting up or wake up from sleep it make sounds like it will die. the grinding sounds come same time as PS4 light pursing when starts up. it's like fan speed spike up when machine's light comes up. I don't know what kind of design they made for this unit but guess it's quite poor. I am not using it now as it's cold enough winter time. I will try it again on Summer days.

I bought this product roughly 2 weeks ago and it sounded and worked good for about 4 days and then the sound got much louder. A couple days after it turned on sounding horrible like it was ripping apart my machine or something of that mess, so i took out and waited because maybe i used too much maybe on for 6 hours max but no it remained the same and i would not recommend to anyone, going to return tomorrow!
