Rated 3 out of 10 by prinnykite The Game was a Let Down
I was very excited for this game to come out, and when I got it at the midnight release I beyond happy. Once I put in the game however I was greeted with a 15 minute long installation bar. The installation wasn't the ps3, it was the game. What it needed to install as a CD I'm not sure. I enjoy exploring in my games, so when I ran around mindlessly looking for loot, which was scarce, left me annoyed. Also at the beginning I realized that I could clip through people, excluding enemies. I'm generally an easy-to-scare person, but the whole time I was playing I wasn't scared - just annoyed. The graphics while decent were still unpolished, the gameplay is unfair (especially on the normal "survival" mode), the sound, well there is none, and overall I couldn't see my self playing it alone. With friends, maybe, just so we could make fun of all the bad things.
Rated 9 out of 10 by STRATx14 Old style horror is back
Sure the game's story isn't original but when in a world of games that are only first person shooters what is. this game brings back the memories of silent hill 2 and the older resident evils unlock the newer horrors like dead space (no offense to dead space fans, i just find it to gun ho). the thrill of having little ammo and fire power as death lurks around every corner is quite satisfying. Though the graphics aren't the strongest you will be satisfied and besides the best horror games don't rely on their graphics. as said the story isn't unique but that isn't the selling point it is the horror which is done tremendously and i would recommend this to anyone looking for a different game then then the first person shooter line-ups coming out. Warning this game is hard and you may rage but it is not unfair and everything is possible.
Rated 6 out of 10 by tekno Good at creating suspense, but story falls short
I'm a huge Resident Evil fan, and I was looking forward to this game because it seemed like it was going to be THE game to finally give me that scare I've been longing for, to be able to feel so uneasy that I have to stop playing it. Now, although there were points in the game that were eerie and left me feeling unsettled, I was mostly disappointed with this game. I spent more than half of the game trying to figure out what was going on, gameplay got repetitive (though most games tend to), and all those awesome scenes that looked really scary in the trailer lasted no more than 30 seconds to a minute. I never felt like my life (in game) was in any real danger, blood and gore was a little over the top in some parts, and towards the middle of the game, I found myself just wanting to finish it because I was getting bored with the gameplay. On the plus side, this game does make ammo pretty scarce, so a lot of times you'll end up fighting an enemy with little to no ammo, adding to any stress you may encounter. The voice acting in my opinion, could have been done a lot better, but I blame that mostly on, again, the writing/ storyline. Overall, this game was moderately entertaining. I would play this when I'm bored and feel like being kind of "scared".
Rated 0 out of 10 by PS3game222 Ready For the Terror!
The Evil Within looks like it'll be an absolutely amazing horror game and i can't wait for it to hit the shelves in August. The atmosphere is chilling, the music and sound make it horrifying, and the enemies that lurk around each corner look terrifying. From what i've seen for gameplay i am looking forward to the intense suspense that this game will have to offer and am ready for all the jump scares to scare my pants off. This will be a must have for survival horror gamers and will be flying off the shelves when it arrives in August. Again i will repeat myself, if you are a horror fan you will definitely want to buy this game! If you agree with my preview then hit that like button; if not give a thumbs down. And comment your thoughts as well. Also if you'd like add me on PSN (miguelyorkes222 or ZeGamerBoy). Thanks
Rated 10 out of 10 by residentevilfansince1996 Better than what i expected
I bought this game on the day of release of this game, but did not start the game until Halloween night, I started the game that night, and i have to say not only is it scary, but it is also pretty difficult. you have to really be stealthy, if you mess up you will regret it. only thing i dont like about it, is that when you are aiming, the camera zooms in up to a point you just see the hands and the gun, in the demo previews, the way the aiming was, just like the game resident evil 4. who knows maybe it might change later in the game, as i am only on chapter 3. but other than that the game is fantastic.
Rated 0 out of 10 by Kinggfearr Theres Beauty within Insanity
Theres a certain kind of beauty behind a game that forces you to go out, all by yourself, in a hellish, rundown environment, filled with creatures straight out from under your childhood bed. It deeply saddens me that there are very few great ps3 survival horror games these days. Most importantly, and i know its not just me, but where are the games that make me believe i'm slowly falling into insanity as i play them? For example, Dead Space 2, on my first play through it had me questioning my very sanity. (TIP: Cannabis greatly enhanced this experience ) So if "The Evil Within" is anything like Dead space, Resident Evil(pre RE5), and Silent hill then this game is most certainly at the top of my Game list, as it should be on yours.
Rated 3 out of 10 by Ocelot Not what I expected
The games was not what I expected. I didn't see this game as a horror game, but as a mystery game. I find the first resident evil games scarier than this. This game is not worth buying When I compare it to "last of us".
Rated 0 out of 10 by ohwoah Info into the Light
So first let me begin by saying I am more than excited for this game, as I have been following its creation for over a year now. Also being a huge fan of Shinji Mikami's work helps in this as well... Let me first clarify something... there are a lot of people on here and around the internet stating 'oh this game looks like resident evil mixed with this and that etc etc' and blah blah blah... The games director....and creator.... was one of the guys that pioneered, produced, and directed some of the original resident evil games up until 4. Thats why they seem similar. Thought I would share that for people who didn't know. He also apparently came out of semi retirement to make this game due to the fact that he noticed and thought that survival horror had become disgusting in its new form and was now basically just another shooter war game. Shinji Mikami rightfully owns the title of 'Godfather of Horror'. Now for some more interesting side notes... other sources online state the game won't be out till december.... Gamestops website states the game won't be out till August. Yet the Local downtown gamestop in San Francisco Claims they have a release date of April 2nd. I have already preordered my copy... I have still yet to figure out which date is 100% correct... Figured I would keep you guys a little more informed. Enjoy!
Rated 7 out of 10 by rickybaugh Too skimpy on ammo
Still very entertained by this game. I understand the idea to make ammo and health less available to make the game scarier but it's a little TOO skimpy on these things. Over all if you like the RE franchise you will like this.
