There is a great variety of games that anyone of any age can enjoy. The selection you can choose from grows as you play each game. Usually beating the first level or a task that takes about 10 minutes will get you a new game selection. I highly recommend Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for anyone.
40 games in 1 Yes!
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection is a great game collection that is needed for anyone who loves old style games. It has everything from rpg to spinball, so its for everyone. And for Sonic fans it has every sonic game released for the genesis.
best collection of retro games I've played
so, do you love the 16 bit era? if you do, or you're not old enough to know what the genesis or it's good first party games were, you'll like this game. most of these games may be 2d platformers or beat em up games, but these really were quality games back in the early 90s. and there's going to be people who like certain games, and people who like other games in this collection. that's what makes this so great. I don't really know how many games are on this collection, and there are some unlockable master system and arcade games to. it's also cheaper than downloading games off nintendo's virtual console
This brings back childhood memories. I use to own a sega genesis and a few of these games I remember playing. A lot of these games I don't remember ever hearing about or playing, but they are really fun. I just wish there was more games because some of these games are really boring, but others are awesome. You should buy it if you want to relive your childhood or see what you were missing.
The Nearly-Ultimate Genesis Collection on any sytem.
This video game collection almost lives up to its name; it is the largest collection of SEGA Genesis video games in the history of game compilations, and it includes almost all of the Sonic the Hedgehog games. And for a cheap price, this is totally worth it for those who loved the 16-bit era in the early 1990's. Those did not experience the 16-bit era, however, may like to purchase this game after renting it first. All of these Genesis games are upscaled to HD (720p and both 1080 formats, thosugh only 720p is native) and anybody can stretch the image to 16:9 widescreen mode as well as use the smoothen option to eliminate most pixelation. This way, the games look really great even today, and anybody can be fooled (though not easily) into thinking that everything runs at 60 prames per second. However, there are games that die-hard Genesis gamers want that are missing in this collection and do not want what is already in this collection, but the quantity and quality of the "good" games is great enough to still warrant a purchase from them. If the challenge is solely based on the games themselves, then challenge would be totally great. However, the achievements/trophies are easy enough to lower the score here. Some static sounds are loud and occur on certain games, or otherwise some other sound effects sound differently than the ones on the original copies of these Genesis games, but the sound is spot-on anyway. There is a nifty feature in this game that lets gamers "rate" their games out of five points so that their friends, when they come over their houses, can see what their favorite Genesis games are (as well as their least favorites). Overall, this is a monstrous collection that is bigger on quantity than quality but is still worth the purchase for old-school as well as others who like Genesis games after trying them out.
A long trip down memory lane
The biggest reason I bought this collection was for Shinobi Arcade! I'm a gamer who's been playing games for over 25 years now and I remember those days in the arcade and even at home when a shiny new Sega game was in hand ready to play. This is a jam packed collection of some great classics. There are more than enough games to keep the classic gamer in you satisfied. The Phantasy Star series is of special note as all the original Genesis versions are on here including the original Master System version. Some of the games are more of a miss than a hit. I would have liked to see originals like Last Battle or Space Harrier 2 on there. Some of the weaker games in the collection Ristar, Super Thunderblade, Alien Storm, Golden Axe 3 are a little more obscure or low quality. It would have been nice to see an unlockable arcade version of Golden Axe: Death Adder's revenge since it never came home to the consoles. All in all there are more high quality classic titles on here than there are bad ones. It's a solid collection that any older gamer and even some younger ones will enjoy! For the price it's worth every penny!

God, I Miss The 90's
With over 45 games to choose from, you simply cant go wrong with Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. Fans of the classic games of SEGA will waltz into memory lane when walking to great classics like Golden Axe, Phantasy Star, and the Shining Force/Darkness series. But even better is the inclusion of the Streets Of Rage Trilogy (My All-Time Favorite). My only gripe is that some of the games from the PS2's Sega Genesis Collections and the creators interviews shouldn't have been recycled here. If you own the PS2 collection then you already have over 50% of the games. Also, there should have been interviews of the games that make their debut on this collection, most importantly S.O.R series. It would have been awesome seeing an interview with composer Yuzo Koshiro and the crew at Ancient Corp, even go as far as making the original Japanese Bare Knuckle III an unlockable (i'd would have pushed the range to T just to make the fans happy). However the emulation is near-perfect, and the games are Hi-Def at 720p (although my PS3 is pushing them @ 1080p on my HDTV set. hmm). Overall it beats dusting off my old sega genesis. I hope SEGA revisits their incredible library of games to make a Vol 2. Of this compilation. Awesome games like Revenge Of Shinobi, Gunstar Heroes, Alien Soldier, the ToeJam & Earl games, the Super Monaco GP games, the Wonder Boy Monster World games, Landstalker, & countless arcade games are still out there lost in the passing of time, even more, there are some cult classic games on Sega CD & 32X that i believe should make a reincarnation (dare i say it... Night Trap?). Its time the company that Sonic built should start measuring for what its name stands for "SErvice and GAmes". This compilation is a positive step forward, let's hope they continue it to redeem themselves of their current downfalls.
Hidden games revealed
Saw an article that talked about Sega revealing the hidden unlockable games to add to the large collection of titles already available! A couple of them are very noteworthy if you're an older gamer who remembers arcades from way back when. So here they are! Alien Syndrome (Arcade) Altered Beast (Arcade) Congo Bongo (Arcade) Fantasy Zone (Arcade) Golden Axe Warrior (Master System) Phantasy Star (Master System) Shinobi (Arcade) Space Harrier (Arcade) Zaxxon (Arcade) I'm especially looking forward to finally having an arcade port of the original Shinobi arcade game! It was one of my most favorite games to play back then! Phantasy Star 1 was one of the best RPG's of the early 8 bit era far outclassing anything Nintendo had to offer at the time. Space Harrier was a great one as well! The price tag is just right for a fun trip down memory lane!
