Best video game story I've played in 10 years
I play video games for their story and here is my top five now that I've finished Nier:
2. Xenosaga series
4. Planescape: Torment
5. Final Fantasy X
This game is a MASTERPIECE when it comes to the story and never have I seen a game tell its story the way Nier does. Basically you play through the game, then have the opportunity to play through it again. And playing through it again is NOT just the same story with a different ending, prepare to have your eyes opened and to be hit in the gut ad you experience it all from a new perspective. It's very emotional and amazing.
So I made it clear, the story of Nier is original and incredible. What about everything else? Well, the soundtrack is one of the best I've heard and the voice acting it out of this world. Not everything is as amazing though. The world is kind of small and there is a LOT of back tracking through the same locations over and over. The side quests can be a terrible grind for little reward, but some of them tell great stories too so it's worth it to push through. The game isn't perfect, but the story is so good this game MUST be played.
And I will say this final statement: If you put in the time to play through Nier once and watch the final credits, you are doing yourself the ULTIMATE disservice if you do not do the Newgame+ feature. Actually you could say you haven't even beaten the game or seen the story unless you have at least played through twice.
TRY IT OUT!
THIS GAME HERE BLEW ME AWAY. SQUARE ENIX DOES IT AGAIN WITH A QUALITY GAME! THIS ACTION RPG IS PERFECT FOR THE LOVERS OF THE GENRE. I LOVE THAT YOU CAN READ THE WORDS AND THEY READ THEM TO YOU WHILE THE ACTUALLY MOVE. I DISLIKE GAMES WITH RENDERS ON THE SCREEN AND THEY JUST SEEM TO BABBLE ON. THIS GAME HAS A DEEP STORY THAT CAN BE FELT BY ANY AND ALL PLAYERS
The best I've played in a long time
This game was simply amazing. It has left me with such a lasting appeal, i feel complete having played it. now there are 4 endings to this game so the replay value is quite good. There is a secret ending not put in the game but its of the comic or book, whichever, that has ending 5 and reading that complete the game perfectly!!!!!!!!!!! music... its perfect! best soundtrack I have ever heard, I have all the songs too. I bought the DLC and it was pretty challenging but so, so worth it... Overall Its a must have. Cavia, S Enix, fantastic job guys.
In all honesty, this game got to be one of my all time favorites rly quick. The story was great and the characters were rly interesting and it is rly easy to get attached to them. The story drew me in and didnt let me go until the very end and even then there was a lot of questions unanswered. The game has multiple endings, each one with its own drawbacks and rewards, so u need to decide which one u like the most. The graphics, in my opinion, were just awesome and the cutscenes were epic to say the least. This game is one of the great undiscovered gems in gaming history and if u dont play it then u r definitely missing out. The only complaint I had was the first half may seem a little slow at first but once u hit that halfway point it picks up like u wouldnt believe and u wont want to stop until u reach the end. All in all, this game is simply amazing and def worth playing. I seriously hope Sqaure Enix makes a sequel. Best $20 I've spent in a LONG time
blew me away
I just happened to be browsing the store when my wife found this game. The name makes no sense and has no insenuation to the game itself but that has no effect on the game. The graphics are amazing. It's a very good action rpg. It has some beutiful cutsceens and fun fights. The gameplay and character development isnt too complex and you dont have to grind and lvl up. The characters were very cool and my favorite part of the game was the music. You can definately tell SE had it's hands involved there. I do kinda hate that the shades werent explained til the very end but it wouldnt have fit any other way. I recommend this game to anyone who likes action games or RPGs, both will enjoy it. I know i did and I hope to see more like it in the future. I spent $15 on this game and it's worth more than that in my opinion.
Almost a perfect game.
This game is by far one of the best Action/RPG game for the PS3.
The Storyline is beautiful, and game play is just pure fun. And the different weapons you can choose from is also great. The music and sound/Voice acting is really great. The ONLY big problem with this game is the graphics. The graphics look like its from a PS2 game. This isn't what I would expect from Square Enix. But if you can get over that, then I highly recommend you buy this game.
Great for storyline lovers
This game won the soundtrack of the year.It has a amazing story and amazing replay value. It keeps you thinking of what happened even after you have beat it the first time due to the fact you only grasp a little bit of what happened to the world due to the fact there are 4 endings. When you get to the 3rd ending you will be in poor shock due to something happened and makes you think twice about the characters you play and shows you that your enemies may not actually be enemies...maybe you are the bad one.I wont spoil it for you but what you know to have happened may be be as it seemed. It's a great game witch changes the gameplay frequently so it doesnt feel repetetive. It doesnt decieve the credit it deserves.I am hopefull for a sequel soon.
The story is really good and different. The characters are very well designed. The gameplay is very fun and nicely done. The sounds and music in this game are amazing and it was a nice surprise.
One of the best stories
On one hand, this is truly an amazing game if you are one of those RPGers who can still play an JRPG for its story and feel for the characters. On the other hand, this is not a game for one who hates reading and skips all dialogue in a game and simply seeks action and graphics.
The game play is nothing exceptional though it offers variety.
You play this game for it's amazing story and dialogue, astounding voice acting and beautiful soundtrack. These qualities are the most important in making a good RPG.
Rich Action-RPG title
Nier is one of my favorite action/role-playing titles I own for the Playstation 3 for a variety of reasons. The game, set over a thousand years in the future is re-created in a simple and interesting way. The way of life resembles the Medieval ages and the architecture and city design was very well done. Living in a world where dark creatures called "Shades" inhabit the world, Nier is trying to save his daughter from sickness. Over the course of the story you meet a very memorable cast of characters that I connected with since they are personalities similar to some friends I have.
The overall game play is great; you are able to use melee attacks but also open up "Grimoire Weiss" (a talking book) to utilize magic spells. The open world is very beautiful and there are plenty of side quests to be had in the different cities (fishing, errands, etc). There was also a bit of platforming in certain areas which I appreciated. The boss battles were larger than life and very exciting. The voice acting was superb but what I loved most from this game was its soundtrack. I feel this really made the game for me; it has perhaps the most well written music in a video game I have played in ages. In addition, this ranks up there with my other favorites like the Final Fantasy and Mega-Man series.
Either way you look at it, I think this is a solid game. The story was interesting, the characters were great, controls were smooth, and the sound is top notch. Some of the most compelling times of the game are when you are in a dream-like state and all you can see is white text against a black background on the screen without anything else. It demonstrates the power behind the story and takes you in even further. If you like action, adventure, platformers, RPGs or any combination I definitely recommend this title. It is suitable for either casual or hardcore gamers depending on how you approach it.
