NBA 09: The Inside
Absolutely amazing game.
NBA 09: The Inside delivers an unprecedented, unparalleled virtual basketball experience. "The Life" is the best mode, you can take your player from the streets, to the D-League, straight to the NBA. "NBA Replay" is really good, cause you can recreate clutch moments from games that actually took place during the 2007-08 NBA season. It gives you some of the All-Star Weekend activities that you get in other NBA video games. (3PT-Shootout, Skills Challenge.) One very evident detail is that most of the faces of NBA players are basically the same, same design, same structure. You can earn points to purchase arenas, jerseys, and apparel for players to wear (both your created player(s) and real NBA players as well.) The game is unprecedented because its features are really good, and have surprisingly overlooked in other NBA games, which is why this game is unparalleled. NBA 09: The Inside is an absolutely amazing game.
As a pure basketball sim, this game falls flat behind its rivals this year. In terms of gameplay, the game controls pretty well and looks pretty good. Problem is, the whole "the life" feature - while it has some good cutscenes and interesting stories, it's really not all that exciting. You have a few key moments you have to play into, but overall it's just kind of meh. It's a rental at best in my opinion. I also have issues with the roster system. Allegedly they are supposed to be updated and ready for download but I still yet to see it. Otherwise the game does look decent in HD. But honestly unless you have an 1080p HDTV with HDMI input ... you can't really see any huge difference. Also the player models are somewhat clunky and the movement is sort of meh.
, NBA 09 The Inside includes "The Life", providing fans with a completely unique and inside experience of life in the league. .dont listen to any one else if they talk bad things about it because i promise it rocks. no not this game
don't listen to the previous review, this game is a joke compared to nba live and even nba 2k9. from the cartoony graphics to the disgusting gameplay (no signature shots and signature style of play) that takes the realism out of the game. for example every player will shoot, dribble, and perform dunks or moves the exact same way. it is just plain terrible. nba live is probably going to be the number 1 game this year not this.
This is the reason to buy a PS3
Oh yes! Only for the PS3. NBA 08 was a good game but this will by far be the game of choice for anyone who loves basketball. And the graphics will be out of this world. Yes it is time to take basketball on the console to the top. Buy any PS3 so you can play this. it will be hard to get this at launch, so reserve it NOW!
This is a great game has great gameplay great soung and great graphics overall it is an excellent game
the game is way below average for the place that brought you the show 08
3rd Place (Bronze)
NBA 09: The Inside is an average basketball simulation. The Best part of this game is The Life which is average. The 3 stories are good stories but you don't do much to prove yourself to anybody in my opinion. (Especially in Story 3) With the big man ascension you aren't even required to do anything in his first in game appearance because your team is already in the lead. The Point guard and swing man stories are very good. The behind the scenes stuff and the in game assignments from the Coach. One thing though about the Life and creating your player is that even if you beat the life at 100% your player will still be rated like a 47 maybe a 50 if you're lucky and that's laughable when you look at Kobe's rating of 97. You should be able to make your player at least a rating of 70 or 75 max. Nobody is that horrible at basketball and shooting game winning shots every game. They should make the life longer and add more depth and assignments. Like score 20 in this quarter or shoot 4 three-pointers this half or win play or player of the week. Just make more goals for the player to achieve in his "Life". The Gameplay in general is average. The controls are good and move fluently. But players do glide and slide across the floor/ground. An example: I started a game with a friend he stopped moving the ball carrier to text message and as I moved my analog stick next to the ball carrier he started sliding backwards. Also when I pass the ball to a guy on the move he takes 2 steps and then stops with the ball then starts dribbling isn't that a traveling violation? The dribbling animation is horrible and there is only 2 good crossover animations. The spin, jab step, and ever other dribbling motion looks like the kid that gets picked last every day after school. The shooting isn't bad. If you have an average shooter you can win on any difficulty. (If you have Kobe you will win every game) It needs to be more realistic. Free Throws are to easy. There are only 2 throwing motions in blacktop golf. 1 is good and one is bad. Guess which one. You can hardly control your player in the skills challenge. The shooting and lay-up/dunking animations are superb. Good shots and cool dunks. Seems very random how your shot is released or whether you dunk or lay-up. But they all look good. The AI is weak. They will shoot with you right in their face. And the commentator will say their was no defense. And you can shoot on them as well but he will say tightly contested. Pick and roll will work 8 out of 10 times. Offensive and Defensive plays are limited so it's difficult to stop the CPU unless you have a higher ranked defense than their offensive or you always guard the ball carrier. Blocked shots are close to impossible except for the computer. Franchise mode not very deep for character development or team development. Needs more GM options. Progression is cool and they have great goals and rewards. Some are easy and some hard. There are a lot of cool unlockable items for your character(s) to choose from. Also cool jerseys and other things to purchase with your credits. NBA Replay is an awesome feature and should make a return next year. The game sounds good. Good commentary. You don't hear the same stuff multiple times in the same game like past basketball franchises. The soundtrack is cool. A mix of old and new. New mostly done specifically for the game. But good music. Voice acting on the court and in the cutscenes were done pretty good. And the script wasn't bad at all. The mini-games are lame. The aiming for blacktop golf sucks and the shooting game with rabbit and kenny smith suck. Skills challenge was more like a see if you can control your player challenge. People look like humans but certain players don't look identical to the real life counterparts or just fairly close and recognizable. But they look pretty realistic sliding across the court. Background images are done well. Even the patrons walking to and from their seats in the stadiums.
