I got the game with the same expectations as everyone else. I thought it was gonna be awesome because of all the hype it got. When I picked up my preorder and got home I was very disappointed. The game is just too hard to advance in. You go into debt on the game before you can even get started. The cops take all your money, The beginning cars sucked, the AI knows all the shortcuts from the get go when you have no idea of the map yet, and finally the map is too in depth to find your way from point a to point b. Give me a Need For Speed any day at least you can win races and you actually stand a chance of beating the game. This game is impossible. As for my official review of the game... I saw they had the right idea and some good ideas, but this game is terrible. I will not recommend this game to anyone and I would take it back to the store but I can't get back even half of the money I put into it... so I guess I am stuck with this crap.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Mexico619 Racing Game Of The Year
i just got this game today and i was like WOW this is the best Racing game i have ever played the graphics are amazing and the controls are easy to get the hang of and if u don't like the controls you can customize your own controls also. what you can customize to your car is amazing I'm still shock at what i can do. i think this game is going to get racing game of the year for sure. the map is also big i can't believe how big this map is and its fun if you want to go cruising. online is pretty fun as well you can get with your friends and cruse around the city and if you get bored you can race each other. there is also other things you can do online like rate other peoples cars and sell your car(without losing it) and theres games online like capture the flag and racing. so if you like racing games then this is a must buy it is just amazing thats all thats needed to be said about this game.
Rated 8 out of 10 by OMGitzDatDude This Game is alot more good than bad
Don't believe the hype of what most reviewers say. This game has a lot more good than bad. Yes, at the start of the game it's really challenging (for me anyway) and i had to restart the first career race probably 10 times due to rubberbanding from the Ai. But after all of that you really get into the game. There isn't an overrated storyline like in NFS UC. All you are is a racer from the east coast earning rep and taking down racers on the west coast. Couldn't be more simple. I kind of felt they could've added way for aftermarket parts this time but they do let you add body kits to exotics and motorcycles now to make them a little bit more original. Also the game has a lot of detail. You can see your driver's expression change during races. When you go fast he looks mean, when you crash his eyes open wide and his jaw drops. I also thought the size of LA could've been much bigger. I mean what's LA without Long Beach, Compton, or even LAX to race through? But like I said, this game is way more good than bad so if you're into a fun simple racer, pick MC:LA because it'll really keep you busy.
Rated 10 out of 10 by Mclaren Great Game With Some Major Flaws
I started this game thinking it was great. I loved the graphics and the variety of characters. It provides a good amount of challenge for people like me and having loved the NFS collection since PS1 I would say this game is a worthy contender of it (not having played NFS Undercover). However one of the flaws includes the lack of cars. Where are the exotics? Also there is a lack of the number of what I call the fun cars, sure you get a Saleen but come on there is nothing German like a good Turbo or something. I also find the bikes completely change the game. It becomes like dumb kid mode when you start using one which I guess could be useful if you are stuck on a certain level, but I would for sure say this game is worth the $**. Oh one other thing I think the ability to put the roof down on the vehicle and watch it go down really ads a whole new level of detail.
Rated 10 out of 10 by hawx Very Cool Game!!!!!
This is one of the best racing games I have ever played! The last I racing games I liked was Midnight Club 3 for the PSP and Need for Speed Most Wanted for Xbox. But this is a very cool game! I suggest you should buy this game. This is actually not a waste of money! The online is fun. I do it all the time but I dont always win. I kinda suck at it but it is still a very cool game and I passed the whole thing and got all the cars. The graphics are awesome and the controlls are kinda unusual once you start of with the game so I changed the controls. When you customize cars you can create vehicle designs and put your cars on something called rate my ride. Its really cool and I always rate rides!! When you play online you can race with other people with the race you created in race editor. So if I were you I will buy this game!!! Its not a waste of money!!
Rated 7 out of 10 by CWB So hard!
I got this game the day it came out. It was a little bit of a disappointment. The whole thing is fun, but it's extremely hard to the point that it's frustrating, and if you can't win races you can't get money to buy faster cars and parts, and this means that you can almost never advance. Some games get complaints that the AI is too bad. In this game the AI is too good. The drivers are way too smart and they never crash while it's very easy for you to crash. There are cheats but it turns off progression if you enter them. Also, my friends and I love to play arcade mode on Midnight Club 3, but there isn't even multi-played in this game, which is a problem. This game only has 40 cars compared to #3 which has about 70. This game has a harder garage interface which means it's harder to customize cars and it's not as fun. Los Angeles is great. It's way bigger than all of the old 3 cities combined and it's fun to just drive around. The map's layout is okay but you can almost never see anything on it at night. Overall I give this game a 7.5. Good effort, but they should have had the same good elements everyone saw in Midnight Club 3.
Rated 1 out of 10 by j2b4osan worst midnight club ever
I have always been a big fan of midnight club. In my opinion the car customization has always been the high point of the game. However the customizing in this release is minimal at best with only pre-selected colors offered and no color spectrum tools. The addition or customized interiors would have been nice but the colors offered are laughable, and with no wood grains offered what's the point. The driving is super arcade style like cruising USA meets an old need for speed or something. If they had ported the midnight club for ps2 with updated graphics it would have made a far better game. The car selection is also very small for any racing game and there wasn't a single car I wanted to drive. With the vast selection of cars seen in the previous releases it's a wonder why the choice is so limited on a supposed next gen game. The damage is unrealistic as are the crashes. Each car crash is almost identical to the last. The races get to be too long to be fun very quickly. In my opinion this is a very poor example of a once great franchise. It's a shame really I have been looking forward to it's release all year. Big disappointment.
Rated 4 out of 10 by Nathan Davis Could have been better!!
I am a big fan of the Midnight Club series and to me this game was a big disappointment. I thought that because this game was brand new and for ps3 that there would be a huge upgrade from Midnight Club 3. Personally I would recommend Midnight Club 3 over this game even though it is for ps2. You can't customize your cars nearly as much as you can in number 3, there isn't as big a variety of cars or bikes, customization screens are slightly confusing, you are running away from the cops more than you are racing, steering is difficult because you have to use the R3 joystick to accelerate, the races aren't as fun to do, there is no options menu so that you can change gameplay, you can only have one file at a time, and it just gets boring to quickly. Some upsides are the graphics and the have some pretty nice cars. Midnight Club 3 is BETTER!!!
Rated 8 out of 10 by FaMe_JeRk WORTH THE MONEY (BUY IT!!)
Very entertaining game. This game is worth the cash becuase first its STREET RACING, second ITS BASED IN LA, last but not lease ONE OF THE BEST RACING FRANCHISES IN THE U.S. The graphics are stunning i meen you can cruise through the city all day or night (i prefer night time) and just admire the beautiful city of Los Angeles (thats where im gonna live whrn i grow up). Controls are quite interesting and easy to get used to but if you dont like it you can customize the controls urself. The challenge of this game is very good. Rockstar did a good job in challenging us race fans when it comes to the midnight club series. MCLA doesnt have the arcade felling every other midnight club had. Now its like a racing simulator a bit and it actually has a story to the game this time instead of just trying to be the best racer of LA.
Rated 9 out of 10 by Drhkilla120 Awesome game
A lot of people have been complaining that his game is to hard. That it's very frustrating because of how difficult it is I didn't have a problem with the difficulty, some races were really challenging but to he most part the difficulty is pretty good. Not really hard but not really east (like nfs). The graphics for this game for the most part Are really good. The cars and environments are really good looking but the characters aren't that great looking. The controls are unique and fit very well, even though u can change em to how u like. The cars are great but there really aren't that many. There's like 5 classes including bikes, but there is only bout 8 card tops n each class. U can customize ur cars many different ways and the Vynals u can put on the car are really unique. There's a lot u can do to make ur far unique.
