Lord of the Rings: War in the North
New epic and awesome adventures and battles
The first M rated Lord of the rings video game! I love the lord of the rings Trilogy because of all the creativity and passion J.R.R Tolkien put into making Middle Earth. I have been a huge fan since I read the books and when the movies first came out. This game will be an epic and awesome game. I am very excited because this game takes place in the North. The movies take place in the south, thus there will be new characters, adventures and battles that you can experience in J.R.R Tolkien's Middle Earth. Snowblind Studios has given the extraordinary time and effort to make this a very realistic game especially with the PS3 or Xbox 360 graphics. The Lord Of The Rings War In The North will be another amazing game which you can experience and explore all of Middle Earth fighting the forces of evil.
SNOWBLIND for teh win!
I just wanted to say all I need to know is that THIS is the same company that executed Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Champions of Norrath, & Champions: Return to Arms. So they know what the heck they are doing with this sort of game. I am going to pre-order for sure. Here's to hoping they can acheive the same amazingly addictive greatness that the Dark Alliance engine once held.
I think this way of this game-
I love the game and i had it for xbox but i got rid of my xbox but i am going to get it for ps3 so i just hope they have some in stock becuase i am going to get it for sure!
Play if u like Baldur's Gate, Champions of Norrath
Perfect game for my wife and I. She loves Lord of the Rings, I love games that you collect sweet loot, kill lots of bad guys, and can co-op with friends. Another great standout is that the battles really feel "epic." It sucks when a game is too easy, and so far, I have been very pleased that the game isn't a pure cakewalk, but instead has a decent level of difficulty starting right off.
The co-op in this game was very well done. It was certainly done with the end in mind, and not added as an afterthought. 3 player max (and not 4) is a bit odd, but I can make it work :) I am very satisfied with this aspect of the game - the controls and split-screen display are really well done for PS3.
Whether or not you like Lord of the Rings, it doesn't matter. They didn't even use original actors for the voices. The great things about the game really shine (And in my opinion, it's good to save the $$$ you'd spend for the real Aragorn or Gandalf to say their lines. Spend that money on making it more fun!!!).
The game is really similar to Champions of Norrath or Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Other similar games are Dungeon Siege 3 or the downloadable game called Dungeon Hunter: Alliance. This is a great substitute for Diablo 3 if you're looking for something else.
Bug Riddled game. NOT WORTH THE INVESTMENT
The game in and of itself is fantastic. However, there are an egregious amount of glitches in the game that make it literally unplayable. My wife and I have played the title on both the x box 360 and PS4. PS4 would only allow one of us to save our progress. Thus my wife would need to restart her character every time we played (even when she signed into her profile that she "saved" her character under). The x box 360 version would not let us proceed after the first chapter. Thus, we were stuck in gaming purgatory after chapter one. Great game, however, a RIDICULOUS amount of glitches (others even beyond these two) make this game unplayable.
Best LOTR not on PC
War in the North is the fusion of an RPG engine similar to Dragon Age with a well crafted storyline based in the Tolkien universe. The graphics vary from breath-taking to bland. The sound and score standout as vibrant and beautiful, however the voiceover work is just shy of dreadful. Gameplay and combat is smooth, and leveling is balanced. This game really shines with its co-op multiplayer that is dynamic and merits good replay value. One major issue is a serious glitch that involves not being able to load the Mirkwood missions, there by preventing you from finishing the game. WB games insists this glitch was resolved with the latest patch, however the glitch still crops up from time to time. Not all owners experience this glitch, but if you wish to purchase this game, you need to consider this fact. Overall I was very pleased with this game and would welcome a continuation of the series visiting another era in the Tolkien universe.
Great game. But glitches need to be fix Asap
I bought this game for coop play with my wife and I was not disappointed. We thoroughly enjoyed Borderlands and have been searching for something to replace that void. Finally, we found a great coop experience in Lord of the Rings: War in the North. First of all, I will say there are many similarities to Borderlands. You level up and then assign attribute points (strength, dexterity, etc) and then assign a skill point to a skill tree (a la Borderlands). Throughout the game you collect a lot of weapons/items and similar to the vending machines in Borderlands, there are portals where you can sell/buy items. This is great as your inventory can fill quickly. You can find incredible weapons and make them unique (like Borderlands) with certain magical stones, which is really cool.
FINALLY! LOCAL-ONLINE CO-OP
I have been following this game for quite a while, and the thing that has me most excited about it is the fact that it is going to have local drop-in drop-out co-op. On top of that, you can play with another person locally and then go online together and hook up with a third player via Xbox Live or PSN. The developers behind this game are the same ones who did Champions of Norrath. If this game is even close to as awesome as that game it will be amazing. Finally a game that my wife and I can play together.
Looks pretty cool
the lord of the rings movies were amazing. and the the video games for the movies were rlly good as well which is rare now for games to be as good as movies. now they're making this game and it looks pretty epic. just the idea is cool being able to roam middle earth as a created character killing enemies with the blade of a sword or ax or the tip of an arrow or spear. the good old fashioned way. but this is only my opinion.
War in the North
I have to say that War in the North is a good game that lived up to most of my expectations. The storyline could be a little better, but it doesn't really make the game any worse. If you are looking for a hack and slash game, this is the game for you. If you are looking for a game with puzzles and side quests, this really isn't your type of game. Snowblind has made a game that is similar to the way other games they made are played. Though the view is not a bird's eye view and the multiplayer is split screen (very different from Baldur's Gate), it still has the same type of game playing and style that they used to make. The game is all about fighting hoards of orcs and goblins for most of the game. I was a little disappointed that you aren't on the same screen like the old games but still a good game. I am disappointed with gameinformer and their views of this game. They gave it a horrific score.
