Lord of the Rings: Conquest
One LotR game to Rule Them All
Lord of the Rings: Conquest puts a whole new idea on LotR games. Even with the flow of new next-gen games coming in, this holds its own. Firstly, you play through the game as a regular, normal soldier, instead of a hero, like you would think. You have to hack and slash your way through tons of enemies (up to 150) and try to defend Middle Earth, or conquer it. You can play as 4 different classes: the archer, warrior, scout, and mage. Conquest takes place in the Lord of the Rings universe, just like any other, near the start of the books/films. You can choose either a good campaign, or an evil one. The good campaign follows the books and movies, where you are going from region to region, defending against Sauron's legions of orcs, while the evil campaign has a unique twist. Instead of Frodo succeeding and destroying the ring, he fails, and the evil campaign plays out as if Sauron came to power and is conquering Middle Earth. The graphics are good. They can definitely be compared to recent next-gen games, and the HD looks very nice. My only complaints are the ugly arrow trails and fire effects. Otherwise, the graphics are nice to look at, and enjoy. The environments are very well made, and look stunning. The soldiers are very well detailed, and it's almost like the movies, in a way. The graphics are, simply put, good. Nothing more, and nothing less. The sound of the game is decent. It isn't amazing, nor is it bad. The game's narrator is Hugo Weaving (Elrond) and that helps set the tone before a battle. While the heroes aren't actually voice acted by the real actors, but you can't even tell the difference with the sound-alikes. But the combat sounds aren't that great, in fact, they need some work. The slashes and smacks all sound very similar, and get bland quickly. Also, the repetitive sound effects of all the skills, and the in-game commander shouting commands left and right can get irritating at times. But the music is nice, taken almost directly from the film. The length of the game is great. The campaign modes offer about 10-15 hours of gameplay, easily. Not only that, but you also get "Instant Action" mode, which you can select to jump right into a battle. There's also splitscreen co-op to add some length, and some fun to the game. But with all this single-player fun, you must be wondering: is there online? The answer is a whole-hearted "Yes." There is online, but the online is just awesome. There are several gameplay modes, such as Capture the Ring (Capture the Flag style), deathmatch, conquest mode, Hero Deathmatch, where you play as all the good heroes vs. all the bad heroes in one epic battle. The controls are the game's weakpoint. The controls are not really great, and could use some work, but you can get used to it. It has simple-styled controls (square is light, triangle is medium...) so you will quickly learn, and every class has a few special abilities that are accessed by pressing the L1 button (most of the time) and those attacks should be used in dire situations. The camera can get annoying sometimes, and it's hard to aim in and shoot enemies with a bow sometimes, because of the twitchy controls. Overall, this is a good game. I recommend it to all Lord of the Rings fans, and even people unfamiliar to the series. This will keep you busy for days, and days, and the multiplayer will offer tons of replay.
Disappointing & Short
You would have more fun playing any of the old SW: BF games. Whereas this game has sub par controls, flawed mechanics where you get stuck in areas, and pitiable versions of levels from the story that can be painfully beaten within hours.
I was expecting the levels to have some semblance to the epic-ness that the LotR is supposed to be. This plays like the old LotR games where you get to play as Aragorn and etc back in 2003ish. which was acceptable during their time, but not now.
I am not sure why Gamestop still prices this bad game as is, but I will be definitely exchange it.
lord of the rings conquest
I really enjoyed this game particularly because if the combat not so much the storyline. The game is more fun while playing with friends on split screen, but campaign is fun as well as just a little hard at times. When you play campaign, you can choose between 4 classes: warrior, mage, scout, and archer. Each class has their own advantages. mages can have magical powers such as casting shields and shooting lighting bolts, scouts can become invisible for a short time and can sneak behind enemies and do a move called backstab, etc. Different modes are available for 2 player such as capture the flag and conquest in which you complete a series of objectives. This game was made by pandemic who also made star wars battlefront, so if you liked battlefront you will probably like this.
I could never understand why video games based off of popular movies turn out to be so terrible. Everything about this game is disgusting. Graphics are mediocre, sound is far below adequate, game play is tedious, basic, simple and sloppy. There are no checkpoint to start off when you die and must start over from the very beginning of the level. Just everything is poorly executed. Even for the hardcore fans of this title should just look away.
Good but only with a friend
The game is fun, me and my friend can play for a long time, but cant play online which sucks but overall its ok.
MY BRAIN EXPLODES WITH GAMING ADRENALINE!!!
This game is completely and totally EPIC BEYOND COMPREHENSION!! Perhaps I'm slightly exagerating, but seriously, this game rocks! You can play through every battlefeild of middle-earth from Osgiliath to Rivendell. In this unique Lord of the Rings game you play as any soldier in any army, such as men, elves, and dwarves,or join the enemy and be an uruk hai or an orc. You can even unlock heroes connected to each seperate location, and not just the obvious heroes like Aragorn, Gimly, or Legolas. You can also fight as Faramir, the Mouth of Sauron, Eowyn, Isildur, and a plethora of others. The gameplay is very similar to Star Wars Battlefront and it even has an instant action setting just like it. This Game is definetely worth the buy, and I wish I had more room to gloat about it.
You Can beat it in a day
Okay its fun, graphics pretty good, true to the LOTR story line...downfall, I'm a casual gamer and I beat it in a day. Nothing superspecial to this game that would bring me back to it, thats why its already resold.
Lord of the Rings: Conquest Proves to be Sub-par
This game consists of a list with various small little quests. They do not tie into one another either. The theme stays consistent with the main battles and scenarios depicted from the Trilogy series, but it does not add anything special to attract game-players. The only cool thing about this game was the fact that you play half the quests from the hero perspective and the other half from the villian perspective. The dialogue and cut-scenes are very weak. In summary, this is a game that can easily be passed up.
My favorite LOTR game!!!
This is a very very fun game. If you liked Star wars Battlefront 1 and or 2 then you will LOVE this game!!! It is so much fun. The only bad thing about it is the graphics aren't that great but otherwise it's AMAZING!!! I was kinda disappointed that EA shut down the online servers but the game plays so much like an online match that it is O.K. I think if you like the LOTR then this game is a MUST BUY, and if you aren't a LOTR fan you should put some real thought into buying this game. add me on PSn xXjbmeisterXx
Very fun but a little bit pricy
