I have had this game for about a year. It is totally awesome. It is perfect for 7-up year olds if they really like video games and play them every day. I think this is one of the awesomest LEGO games. Did you know that LEGO Harry Potter Years 5-7 is comming out on November 1st. Yes I would recomend this to any harry potter lover (even someone who does not love it). It is a gereat LEGO game.
Rated 9 out of 10 by HarryP. Just another Lego game?
I will start off by saying if you hate Harry Potter or any of the Lego games don't bother with this one. Now if you like Harry Potter or any of the last 5 Lego Games then you will like this one. With 160 characters, a lot of secrets and stuff such as that you will have hours of things to do. And as you progress through the story more and more becomes unlocked meaning you can't do much within the first 5-12 hours of the game. Yet once you do start passing through the story more and more becomes open for you to enjoy. The game follows the films not the books sadly. The one thing I did enjoy was the fact that Hogwarts was so massive, and was so very alive. I would say more but why? The game is fun and I never got board of it. All in all, its the only game thats good based on Harry Potter, yeah thats not saying much, but it finally gave the world of harry potter a fun and enjoyable game that you'll want to play again and again.

I'd say that Lego Harry Potter is a decent game. Its fun to play, some what challenging, and it has some humor. But, on the other hand, for anyone who wanted to play a Lego version of the Harry Potter series, I'd pass on this one. First of all the storyline is mostly different. It follows the same path as Harry takes, but changed. For instance, in the scene where Ron and Hermione discover Snape interfiering with Harry's quidditch. Instead of following Harry, like in the book and movie, your following Ron and Hermione. Now, I can guess that was for making the gameplay time longer, but it still changes the enjoyability a bit. Another thing is when Greg and Fred show Harry the map. Not at all in the game do you use it. They could've used it in SOME way! I honestly love the extra missions you get by unlocking the gold bricks. They're short and quirky, and a bit challenging.

Lego Harry Potter is definitely a treat for people who like the Lego Series so far. If you are going to buy this or are interested, chances are you've played Lego Star Wars. This game does have similarities to its predecessors but sets them apart by some new controls, more functionality and lots more to collect. I will bring up the games biggest weakness of its difficulty, but, it does provide entertainment and give lots of items to hunt down. If you grew up with legos or like Harry Potter than you should go crazy for this and if you aren't a fan of either pick it up anyway. You never know until you try it. This game I have not completed but should give you a good 3-31/2 months of gameplay. I would recommend this to people who like platformers, collecting things in games, legos, and Harry Potter.
Rated 1 out of 10 by pilot501 lame and obnoxious
The sound effects in this game are terrible, too many grunting and unnecessary noises are coming from the characters. There is also too much going on, it is easy to get lost and/or confused with all the extra animations that serve no purpose whatsoever. You do not "unlock characters for free" now. I know that in the past, Lego games always gave you some characters upon completion of a level and there were some you had to buy. Now, the game is set up so that you "unlock" some characters but you have to find them and then buy them. There are no free characters. However, money is no problem. The challenge is poor because there is just so many ways to get money and in large quantities. It is obnoxious to have soooo many studs floating around in the game, there are so many you cannot figure out where you're going. Also, if you have not collected some of the studs, the ones you do not collect are sometime in the way of the movies that are played between scenes. If you are a Lego game fan, by all means you should purchase this game if you do not mind the lame and obnoxious characters, storyline, and sound effects. The games is great for your five year old, anyone over this age will find it too "baby" and easy to play.
Rated 7 out of 10 by blackopsplayer1 fun but confusing
i got this when it first came out. and as soon as i played it. i was very confused i had no idea of what to do and were to go. the place you are at is huge its hard finding your way around. but other than that its pretty neat the spells is kinda silly. but the level builder is awesome same as the other ones but this one has a lot more stuff and you dont have to buy things to make the levels i give this a 7/10 because its not the BEST gamer ever and its not the worst. and 1 more thing i have not played that game for over 3 months. so for the lasting opleal you can very easily forget about it. after i got black ops i just left that game alone so this is a game for someone who wants to spend the money on something that you will wanna play
Rated 8 out of 10 by Vamphunterm Great... but with a major flaw.
I wasn't too sure how this game would be as I enjoyed Lego Star Wars but was disappointed with Lego Batman and Lego Indiana Jones. This game is surprisingly very good. The story mode is fun and has some challenging puzzles, and the story line was very close to the books. The spells can be lots of fun, but is a pain when you have to switch spells quickly. I really enjoyed unlocking all the extras, and playing the different characters you unlock. There is also a level creator, you need to go through the tutorials in the bonus levels to unlock it, but its worth it. The controls are easy as well as the interface. The boss battles can take some time to figure out, but they are still fun. Split Screen co-op can be annoying at first and takes some getting used to. Now the one major flaw is there is a room you can get stuck in with no way out. Its more towards the end of the game but from what I have read many people have gotten stuck there so if you buy this game do some research so you do not get stuck in the same place. Hopefully a patch will be released to fix it, but there is no word on one yet. All in all the game is good, and despite a few minor glitches its not bad. Lots of things to do. If you a fan of the Lego Games or Harry Potter I would suggest trying it out.

hey this game looks great im sure it will be just as good as the star wars and the indiana jones lego games.Im 32 years old and i think it was a real genious idea with these lego games they are easy to play but they are long games worth the money and there interesting games.i am a fan of star wars and indiana jones.and how they r just like the movies.i have only seen the first 2 of the harry potter series i will have to catch up before i get the game.the one thing i was really hoping ias for them to come out with a LORD OF THE RINGS lego game.i think that wpould be a real challenge and it would be a awesonme game.alot of cool graphics.
Rated 10 out of 10 by jjster it's a game for fans but not exactly new-comers
It was a good game for the most part. But when i think about it would not be easy to understand what is happening throughout the game if you have not read the books or seen the movies. In LEGO games players must know most of the story-line, because the characters do not speak, therefore they are not able to tell you what is happening. So if you don't the great classic written by J.K. Rowling, you may find yourself out of luck. But who am I really kidding when i sit here saying "downs" of the game before the "ups". You see i have read all 7 books about 2-3 times so i know the storyline, characters, etc. The game can be great fun when you know whats happening.... and trust me this game is very good and worth the money, as you can see i gave a 10 for the overall rating, because i do know A LOT about harry potter, and truly i have been waiting for about 5 years for LEGO and the world of harry potter to collide to create an ultimate gaming experience and overall this game did not dissapoint. If you are a fan and are familar with the world of harry potter it is a game for you.... but, don't expect too many EPIC wand battles and fights.... this game isnt that kind of game for the most part, but you really can't so "no" to a classic like this.... it is practically a collectable..... and years 5-7 is coming in november you cannot miss that. so hurry up and pick this game up for the most part you will be surprised how well this game actually turned out. THANKS FOR READING!!!! :)

although i traded this game in for bioshock this does not mean i hate it i loved this game it is hilarious if you watch the movie and compare it to the game the way the characters act and move is funny and you can buy spells and if you play as a character who turned to animal in the movie you can morph them into a werwolf, cat, dog whatever they are it is awesome not only that you can go around the castle every part in the movie is in this game you can even ride brooms i totally recommend this game
