ok i bought this game based on the reviews here...I read some very convincing reviews,,so i said yea this game has to be good! but boy was i wrong, this game looks promising with its mystical and intriguing world.so i started to play the first level,, and after a while i was happy with the game,,soon enough i started watching my daughter play.and mann was i dizzy i have never been the type of gamer that gets like that at all.first time ever"too much flipping and turning"she likes it but then again she is only 11.But dont take my word for it..I am just being honest!!
Game controls absolutely SUCK. The developer tried to make this fast pase game and they did except the controls couldn't keep up they're clunky... lets say you've taken cover behind a wall or piller the enemy flanks you, and you see the AI and your like TURN damit TURN so you can shoot him NOPE back is glued to the wall and everytime you try and zoom in and shoot the game ASSUME you mean shoot around the piller or shout over the wall. What you really want is to shoot the guy thats flanked you. Picking up ammo... when you've killed a guy they drop ammo ammo and "treasure" sparkle when they are in your field of view no problem, but they only sparkle often enough so when your running and gunning and you need ammo you run to the sparkly item and you expect to auto pick bullets for you guns... NOPE you gotta press triangle... and you literally have to right on top of the item to pick it up if you run over item by a few steps you have to back peddle. This does not work when your in a fire fight.
I Got It 4 Cheap!!
First of all this is a great game & as I said i got it 4 cheap. If you take the time and learn the controls, and go through the tutorials, it will be very fulfilling. This is not an airplane simulator, you're riding a dragon. Saw a lot of reviews bashing this game. This is one of the first games to come out on the PS3. On HD 720 or above this game looks awesome!! The graphics are dark (I like them). Great storyline, biblical & mythological, nicely interlinked. Music is engaging & compliments the story quite well. Great action/ battle sequences either in air or on the ground. As you unlock more dragons you can replay the mission w/ each. Replay missions w/ different dragons i.e.better scores. The free add on w/ 2 new dragons is great. If you are not up to the six axis there is an analog control w/ this add on too. Bottom line, great game, involving story, wonderful music. Controls I will let you decide; when is the last time YOU'VE flown a dragon?
This game(as you can see by the other reviews) was very underrated. This game is pretty awesome. I own a 360 so far all these PS3 games I have played pretty much all have sucked. And I mean games that only came out for PS3. But this game is the game that I can say makes me glad I bought a PS3. The graphics are good. The gameplay is great. I guess the real thing everyone is complaining about is how you have to use the sixaxis to move and everything. Once you get used to it the game gets fun. You can also download the new add on to let you use the control sticks instead. And its free. In the game you are a sky guard and you are fighting a war. You use a dragon to rain hell in the skies and win this war. You have to master evasive maneuvers, flight, and fighting too. You can breath fireballs, or you can get up close and personal and ram, fight, or "hijack the enemies. This is a great PS3 game to buy and it can keep you occupied for hours. This is a good game to replay as well.
Far Better Then I Expected!
Yes, I read horrible reviews about the control issues but I also read about a Downloadable patch on the Playstation Network that fixed this problem. well after playing for 5 hours (I had updated the game but no psn download at this point) and fell in love with this game. the graphics are excellent as is the sound the controls felt fine to me and this was pre patch. since then I have installed the patch which allows use of the analog sticks to fly instead of the sixaxis. This really is a great single player game in the drakkan gaming area. you fight a little on land which, astride a dragon can be really fun such as, eating the knights, fighting dragons, breathing a long firey breath all over a legion of knights and watching them Burn!! this game got bum reviews and I couldn't disagree more. the controls (both analog and sixaxis) provide great control and while there are still some collision detection problems, these are minor flaws on a Diamond in the rough!
Human Error Ruined Lair
ProsPretty cool story, I like the mix of biblical and dragon, really unique and refreshing. Graphics are good, dark, gritty and the look of the game reminds me of old mythical movies like Dragon Slayer and Clash of the Titans.Music is definitely epic and gets you into the game. The dragon one on one fighting is pretty sweet. Torching, clawing and sky dropping enemies to death is way cool. The battles in the game are huge and they get you involved in the whole war. It actually seems like war and not like previous games where it looks like there's a huge war going in the distance but you only get to obeserve and kill a few bad guys. It has dragons.ConsThe lock on targeting system is a pain. Locking on in the air to a far away enemy is no problem. Targeting a ground or close enemy you'll try to lock on and it seems to have a mind of its own. You're on the dragon the whole game, a few times after a cut scene your character has to be mounted on by pressing the triangle button and you're just thinking to yourself okay just start me on the dragon. Annoying thing about the graphics is they made everything blend in which makes it hard to determine where the bad guys are. Example, the frost dragons are teal blue and shoot blue frost balls. When in daylight you can see them. When they fly around water or in the dark you cannot see them clearly. You get a yellow and red indicator, in the shape of an arrow, that guides you towards enemies and objectives. It does a horrible job and you'll find yourself using your own eyes to search for things. Another annoyance is there is soo much going on in the game around your character it is hard for you to get to your objective. Example, you have to land and swipe ground troops but you keep getting bombarded by enemy dragons above that you struggle to keep from being knocked down. The free downloadable analog control does make it easier to play but it still needs work. The camera is stiff and when going in for close combat on the ground it is too close, making you feel slow. When you're surrounded by castle towers you will constantly fly into crap helping you lose track of objectives. The game is only a challenge due to the problems of its design. You will fail missions again and again and eventually get through them but you won't feel accomplished you'll feel relieved. You won't care about getting the special medals, you'll just say I'm never doing that level ever again. I should be able to skip the introduction when inserting the game to play and not have to be forced to see it everytime I decide to play. During in game cut scenes you can skip but you have to wait some time, other games let you skip asap amd I feel that should be a law for every game. There are too many dragons flying around and it makes it hard for you to focus on which ones in specific you need to take out. Example, when you need to take out Dark dragons and you're timed on it but there are Frost and Allied dragons all in the same area getting in your way. Your fellow sky guardians can be a real pain in the butt by telling you go here and go there all in a second and your like pick one dude I can only do one thing at a time. After you're a witness to the starting of a war your character is asked how it happend and he replies I don't know. You see this and you just have this feeling like, YOU JUST SAW IT HAPPEN BEFORE YOUR EYES GENIUS! This is where the dialogue needed a wiser touch. My ThoughtsThe six axis is utter crap for the PS3 period. If we wanted to play that way we would own a Wii. GET RID OF IT SONY! Lair could have been great but due to bad control, camera and layout designs the game can be really annoying and unenjoyable at times. I would really have liked to have been able to get off the dragon and finish missions by foot, slay some soldiers or grapple hook a dragon like in Mercinaries 2 with the helicopter. Instead of using a useless colored arrow as a guide. They should have used a guiding system like Halo and Robotech
I am one of those people that love action, adventure, and gore games. I havn't bought this game yet but plan on doing that soon, but I have rented it. I think this game is exclent. Its graphics are nice, the sounds are realistic, and te blood actually looks pretty real. I like how it uses the Sixaxis control sysytem, by tilting the controler to manuver. The way Sony set up the controls, is easy to use and memorize. One thing I did not like about this game, is how sometimes the dragon wouldn't turn the way you wanted, and I think in a few missions in the game's surroundings were to cluttered making it hard to manuver. On the other hand the story line was great, and I liked how somtimes they would put in clips to explain what was going on. In some of the missions though, they put to many of those clips. The music fit the game well, and got you into it. They made the missions challanging, but not so challnging that it caused you frustration and to throw the controler or just put the game at the back of the shelf. All in all, I would reccomend this game to others, the price is much better now, and in my opinion, I think its a steal.
Nice try SONY but do better!!!!
if you have looked at this game before on store shelf and thought about buying it. let me tell you that this game is alright but it is not worth the amount that they are asking for this game. i will admit that this game does something pretty impressive with wireless six axis controller but that is it. the game gets a little repeatative at times. it was a good idea to use the six axis controller to steer the dragon that you ride in the game. the storyline in the game makes no sense what so ever. mainly sony just tried to center the game around the controller instead of everything else that makes a game great. the graphics are not that bad but htey could still use a little bit more work. let me tell you this that if you like games that have no real good storyline and is just focused on combat throughout the game then this would be ideal for you.
what a waste!
I was looking forward to this game for months and finally bought it and I put off doing a review because I wanted to give it a fair chance but enough is enough. I can't stand this game! What is up with the Sixaxis? There is no way to turn it off and just use the analogs. The missions are like taking orders from someone with multiple personality disorder. Every time you get to doing what they ask you, they yell out to do something else. This was one of the worst ps3 games around. A dragon game should be fun. Not like pulling teeth out of Jaws. The repetitiveness is also quite aggravating. I don't know what else to say except that if they dare make a sequel, they should leave out the terrible sixaxis controls and cheesy dialogue. If I knew this game would be this bad, I wouldn't even have rented it.
Much better with new update
It seems people dont even know there is an update for this pack in the playstation store for free under all games search l find lair then download the free pack which adds full vibration and dual analog support which makes it much easier to play and also adds remote play onto the psp(which allows you to play the entire game on your ps anywhere in the world that has wifi). Since this is the only full ps3 game that supports remote play it has incredible graphics and sound and the one hitch was the controls which is now fixed this is a must buy. I would recommend to anyone also i originally bought when first came out and never finished because of controls. Now it is much better and i would say deserves a 9 of 10. This definetly deserves anyones attention.
