Not the Same, But still is
Having owned(and still do), played, and followed the entire GT series since its initial release on the PS, I have to rate this as " The Best Simulation Racer" by far. You can't really call it the same GT you grew up with, but in a way it's still familiar. The cars are there, from Acura to Volvo and almost anything in between including Pre-Tuned vehicles from manufactures such as HPA, Blitz, HKS, and a few others. The visual presentation on the vehicles are beautiful, and it's even better with the Premium Model cars which have a fully detailed interior.
When it comes time to race you can choose between A-spec and B-spec, the latter being an AI unit you "control. The tracks, from originals you know to the real life tracks themselves, are presented so greatly detailed that I have spent almost an hour or more on Nurburgring just reading the writing on the road. Not to mention the fact that every bump, turn, corner marker, and barrier on all the tracks look(and feel >.<) real. The way the dirt clouds behind your car, or the way the grass moves when you go past it just adds that much more.
The music tracks in the game are superb, now with more driving and racing style music and not only that but you can use your own music in not just the race's but the menu as well.
The photo feature is fun and can be accessed from your replay while its playing. From fast easy point-and-click to the fine-tuned adjustment's that can make or break your picture. The photo locations are also a delight, though I would have liked a few more, they do have a dynamic property to them. Some change from day to night, others have moving trains and people, and one of the locations includes Mr. Kazunori Yamauchi in it, which one i'm not telling.
Lastly, multi-player and the online community is a treat, although in multi-player it would be nice to be able to use all your cars in your garage not just your favorites and to be able to access car's from another users account on the same PS3. I can race against my bud in Okinawa while I sit here in Ohio in the online mod which offers Open Lobby racing or you can just sit back with your friends in My Lounge. Every race type is present, even custom set up drag-racing. They have there own rules, regulations, and Hp or PP limit that you can change to suite the type of race so the options are limitless.
Well, that's all I have to say. Now just get out there and start racing.

GT5 Collector's Edition is for the GT5 enthusiast
I bought the GT5 Collector's Edition at launch from Gamestop. As many know it comes with authentic certificate, Nissan GT-R Spec V - 1:43 scale die cast model car encased-especially designed with GT logo, seven great cars to download, a GT key chain and a 300 page plus manual. The manual alone is worth the extra money to help understand the many facets of racing and non-racing cars, tracks and maneuvers. It is full of detail that you would not want to miss. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find still. As I followed the guide, playing it about 5 hours per week, I have reached Spec A - 28 and Spec B - 27, S License (not all golds though), over 200 cars in garage (love it when I receive a new car), logged more than 12K miles, 41 GT5 Trophies, and nearly completed Expert level in both Spec classes. I really enjoy racing Polyphony Digital's Formula racer (found it on the used car dealership for a little over 4 million). I have put down playing other games for the last three plus months. For me, it is an excellent game. I imagine for others as well.

Awesome Racing Game
The graphics are probably the first thing that will get you. The minute details such as pebbles on the side of the road, the grass. It is almost as if you are watching a video of someone driving when watching the replays of your races. Next you have the manufacturers. You can drive everything from a Ferrari and McLaren all the way down to Daihatsu and Mitsubishi. Get the Collector's Edition and you automatically can start with a BMW M3, Shelby Cobra, Benz roadster, Audi R8, and a Lamborghini MurciƩlago (WTF?!) -- soooo not fair to those you race against to START with so much power! And that ain't all, if you pre-ordered the Collector's Edition in addition to the awesome cars just mentioned, you get a McLaren F1, and a Toyota NASCAR Joey Logano #20 race car!!! The tracks on this thing are dynamite, daytona to the f1 tracks featuring hair pin turns, not to mention the different racing styles (at night, in the weather, even NASCAR). Very fun, very addictive, definitely worth all the wait Sony put us through!!!

Game plays great, feels great, it's just awesome.
Got this game mailed to me by UPS on 12/6/2010. I think the game is a lot better than I expected. I mean there's been a lot of complaining going around about how GT5 has only 200 cars with cockpits and the rest of them don't. To be honest, once you take the wheel and start playing, you'll probably forget all the problems this game has. If you dwell on these small little hiccups, you'll just be ruining it for yourself. The game is amazing and I recommend it to everyone, just to give it a try.

GT has done it again.
I have been waiting and WAITING for GT5 for a long time. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but i am a hardcore fan of the GT series, owning every game they made. GT5 met my expectations, having hundreds of all new awesome cars (especially ferrari's and lambos) and the special events in GT mode like Jeff Gordon racing school and Top Gear test track. Graphics are sick, and the attention to detail is what sets this game apart. Controls are a bit hard to get used to, but you'll get the hang of it. My one word of advice: get the collectors edition. you'll have a much easier time in GT mode because you'll have the 5 bonus cars (BMW M3, Lambo murceilago, Benz SLS, Audi R8 and Shelby cobra). bottom line: get this game if you're a gear head!! so much better than any other GT game!

Honest Review
First of all, let me say - I am a 46 year old Systems Engineer, not a teen or 20-something hardcore gamer (not that being young again would be a bad thing). I have been following Gran Turismo since it's inception on the original PlayStation system. This version of Gran Turismo is the BEST that has ever been released. I'm not going to compare it against anything else, because it is NOT something else - it is GRAN TURISMO at it's finest. IF you are a fan of the GT series and have enjoyed playing a (very realistic) driving simulator, then you won't be wasting your money by buying this product. The graphics are perhaps the best in any PS3 game to date, very detailed surroundings, cars, people, etc. In fact, you almost want to go slow in the game just to see the wonderful graphics. The AI is much improved over previous GT products, but this doesn't steer away from what made Gran Turismo loved by those that originally loved GT. You still have Arcade & GT mode, plus in GT mode there is A-spec and B-spec modes, plus a whole lot more. Replayability is right at the top, there are many, many hours of gaming time available in this game - not only to make money, get the cars, get experience, get newer licenses, but to go for that hard to get trophy or reward. I do believe that for a casual gamer, this game may offer too much. It will take dedication and time to not only fully enjoy this game, but to master and succeed at this game. As you can see, I'm not comparing it to any other game name because it shouldn't be - but against past GT products, this is definitely the best!

finally a real racing game.
people that think forza and need for speed are better are nothing but a bunch of teenagers who have no idea how to appreciate what real cars are supposed to be like. if you like driving a whole race with the pedal to the metal, crashing into things at full speed and still winning, in a car that can't be made in real life (awd mustang with a mclaren f1 engine), then don't buy this game, stick to forza. this game you actually have to be very good to win the top races, smashing into things at full speed will only make you lose. this is a realistic racing game, that looks amazing, is fun to play online or offline. so many cars to collect it leaves other racing games in the dust.

9.0 easily
While i agree with the few other reviewers, that we don't need 19 Miatas, and that there should cockpit views for all the cars, it doesn't change the fact that this game is just plan addictive. I forgot to eat for 24 hours is how in your head this game gets.
The Game Play - Absolutely amazing. If you like GT then you will love this.
The Sound - You get Custom Soundtrack but no way to change the song you are currently on if you don't feel like listening to it during the race.
The Graphics - They reused a lot of older cars and yes made them look better in some respects, however i feel that in the amount of time they had the graphics should have been a 10 and they aren't.
Lasting Appeal - I will never sell this game, sorry Gamestop, and will continue to play this for as long as i am able, or until GT6 comes out.
Bottom Line - Buy it, it's well worth $60 or $100 for the Collector's Edition
