Great Game with Good Replay Value
When I got out to the store to get Godfather 2, I was psyched. When I got home with it, I started playing and instantaneously fell in love with it. 3 days later however, I already had the game beaten & earned my first platinum trophy. It's safe to say that I was extremely disappointed, and was ready to trade it in to at least get some of my money back, but then I tried out the online & I've gotta say, it's by far better than any other game I've got for online (GTA IV, SOCOM, etc.) Now I'm ranked 1st in the game for Fire Starter Mode Wins online & 3rd for Earnings on the mode and if I wasn't desperately looking or work I'd probably be first by now. What I'm getting at is that this game is amazingly addictive with an awesome online setup that's something unique to just this game (outside of team deathmatch.) Without question, I would say that this game is worth buying & playing into the ground because the fun you can have on it far surpasses any other game you'll be playing online.
It's worth it...
This is a game that's easy to get addicted to. It's a lot like GTA Vice City....the controls, the environment, the graphics, etc. are very similar. Although, some things in this game are noticeably repetitive -you'll come across identical looking characters over and over and you'll enter buildings with the same exact layout as other buildings you've been in. Once you notice it, it can get a little annoying.....it almost seems lazy on the game developers part -I think they could've done better with that -other games have. Other than that the game is pretty good. The side missions are great and the main story line is good too. I really like being able to select and add people to "my family tree" and then being able to somewhat control them ---they can be sent to take care of some other business while your doing something else -or they can tag along with you. They step up when needed and help you out a lot in gun fights too. Bottom line is: I'm pretty happy I picked up this game.
At first I was hesitant on how similar this game would be to the first. The first godafther's controls and battle system were a bit difficult to get used to but this game was a much needed improvement. the running and aiming are much smoother and the graphics i admit don't meet the next gen. standards, but are still pretty decent. One thing that concerned a lot of people was the strategy of the buisnesses, and before buying it, it worried me too, but it did not play as big of a role in the game as i thought. essentially you pay money for each buisness to be protected and you spend most of your time taking over other buisnesses. Even though the financial buisness map of the game looks intimidating and somewhat boring, it actually points the game in the right direction. The online play was better than i expected and the "family" system was also a great addition to the game. Overall the game was good and much better than the first.
Terrible game in many ways.
First off, I'm a big fan of this first game. This one however, has some serious problems. When I first started the game, I was surprised by the PS2 looking graphics. For a game on the PS3 console, they really fell short in graphics. The controls are o.k., but not spectacular. The biggest problems were the amount of bugs in the game. In one instance, I parked my car outside of my apartment. When I came outside, another car had "melted" into mine. So I had half of my car, half of another, and neither was driveable. It happened again after I ran from the cops. I got into my truck, but the back end was a different car and it wouldn't move. Many times when involved in gunfights, clear shots to the enemy seemed to be blocked by something. I also came out of buildings to see pedestrians either standing on my car, or melted into the ground like quicksand up to their waist. I bought this game based on last year's hit. I did not read any reviews. I should have. $edit for a game and it's full of problems. Do not buy!
Well I waited till read the reviews to buy it, so I bought it on the 2nd day it was out, and I tell you, as all the reviews here are right on, I think this game is a bit way better then The GodFather The First Game, you get to goto cuba and florida, the only thing is that you can't buy safe house's in the game, I played for hours and still all the story line ain't finished, I recommend you get this game, you won't be disappointed. You like the way you have to kill each family member, if you don't they recover, They only allow you 3 followers to go with you, you can send the other family members to defend business so other family members can't take them back, the explosions are great and the fire are realistic, the only thing I find that is not realistic about this game if you send your family members to defend a business that is in cuba or florida and your in new york they get there fast and when there finish there and you add them to your crew they show up within 15 seconds, well besides that you love this game.
A GOOD IDEA BUT IT JUST DIDNT WORK OUT.
O.k So here's my intake and outtake of the game. The graphics at first i thought they were pretty good untill i got about a hour into the gameplay and realized that nothing in the game besides the cinematic's had finished graphics, I really thought the gun scheme was good but it annoyed me that once you picked up a level 2 weapon it discarded your level 1 weapon and you couldn't reuse anymore through out the game. Although i was fine with some of the cars although the limited amount of choice was very aggravating considering you had maybe four vehicles to choose from. I thought the online had a lot of work to be done with it because in my opinion it just completely sucked as well as it was unfair. Honestly the only reason i would suggest this game to anybody would be for the story, which is quite good (Although 3/4th's of the missions sucked). Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope i helped.
An honest review!!
I have been playing video games for 15 years now, so when I review a game, it has to be with honesty. That being said, I think most people that gave this game a bad review, are people that didn't take the time to think clearly, and go into this game with an impartial outlook. I can venture a guess that most people had high hopes for this game, and the very minute they saw something they didn't like, they decided to complain about the game as a whole. The Godfather II is a GOOD game, with the same minor bugs and glitches that most great games present. The game doesn't need to install to the PS3 so it takes up very little space which is nice. Being able to adjust the camera sensitivity is a plus for me. Instead of your finger's slipping when it comes to pulling the trigger like mine do, they mapped the trigger to be he R1 button! That's great for someone like me who has really big hands and hates the bad controller trigger design! Since I bought this game after reading all the reviews, I actually am not bothered at all by what people say are "ps2 graphics". To me the game looks great, much better than I thought from what people said about it. The storyline is kinda weird, and having complete control as the Don is not exactly what you picture it would be. You have to go to people on the street and do small jobs for them almost like your a low level enforcer, doing all the dirty work a don is supposed to have other people do for him. That kind of made go: huh, I'm a DON but I do more work then my entire family on the street? I do like the Don's view map which is fully 3D, and its basically your main hub where you can find everything you need. Being able to recriut people into your family is a nice touch, made even nicer by the ability to pick what they wear or what guns they are trained to use. Its sort of like an RPG-Open world game, that stray's from the Godfather movie script and writes its own silly one. There is so much to do in this game, its hard to express most of it. I would recommend this game to anyone that likes simple, yet surprising games. Trust me, its not all bad surprises like most people would make you believe.
This is a fun game and has HUGE enhancements over the previous game. One of those enhancements is that you get your own crew, in this game you can hire 7 people with there own special skills and have up to 3 of them fallow you around helping you in battles. Another enhancement is "Dons Mode", which is like the games map, you can see your and rival family's business's. But you can also send people to attack or bomb rival business's or hire guards to protect your business's from attacks or bombs. The last enhancement i am going to mention is that you can go to 3 different places: New york, Florida and Cuba. Now its time to get to the let downs of the game, some things that could be improves or that I could do without. The first let down that comes to mind is the Graphics. All the Characters look rather cartoonish, especially on a Next Generation console like the PS3. (Graphics look same on X-box 360) The next letdown i can think of is that the game only has 14 hours of gameplay, so after you beat the game all you get to do is run around the city and that gets somewhat boring.
A Revolutionary Game to say the least
The Godfather 2 reassures me that there's a bright future for video games that think outside of the box. This is one of those games that allow you to go outside of a set storyline and make decisions of your own, creating a unique experience every time you start a new game. This is a fun game for anyone, whether they're a fan of The Godfather movies, the first game, or just fans of good crime games. This game is like an improved version of Scarface and Saints Row 2 with better graphics, a more believable storyline, and very nice replay value (meaning simply that the game never gets old). The controls take a few minutes to get used to, being unlike any game I've played before, but it still works. Plus it straight up feels good when you shoot someone or kill an enemy. Some of the cool features that were in the first game appear to have been taken out of the sequel (I say "appear" because I haven't seen the whole game yet). But you can still do stuff like rob banks and bomb buildings. Anyway, I hope this review helped any customers. It's a great game that I recommend to all game players
First of all I just exchange the xbox360 copy for ps3 that I grabbed it from store yesturday. I played on xbox360 it really fun and good in everything; the most fun that I like about it is u can hire guards to keep an eye on ur business and u can hire many crew to join ur family, u can recruit them to start ur own family at beginning. I haven't go too deep in the game yet I got 4 crew members in my family so far. Oh yah one of the most point that I first like about the game is u can customize ur character apperance, it's so cool u can customize it as thin or fat, and has facial hair or not and clothings styles and colors ect.The reason I exchange it for ps3 is about the online u have to pay to join the xbox live which I find it's ridiculous since on ps3 u don't have to pay for it monthly to play online. I would recommend this game to everyones who love to play the GodFather's Don edition this game is far beyond with more details and options of playing. I bought this game on the first day it came out without waiting for it to come out in Blocbuster to rent, and I am dan right it's worth :)
