Back off man, I'm a scientist
I'll start off by saying I grew up with ghostbusters, I had all the toys.. saw both movies as soon as they came out.. and to this day still watch them at least once a month... I'm an expert on the subject. So it suffices to say I was more than excited for this game to come out. I'll start off with the story, which is one of the most important features of an action/adventure game. The story was written by the original crew and is without a doubt the best part of the game. It was tailored to be strictly for a video game so it's somewhat unfair to call this a "game based off of a movie" considering it has its own story line that only references scenes from the movies. All the major ghostbuster personalities are present, all voiced by the actual actors, and each has at some point a major role in the story. The plot is the perfect variation of taking you to new places in the ghostbusters universe as well as paying fan fare and allowing you to revisit movie favorites such as the New York City Library. The story never feels like it was rushed just to get you the next location, you always know how and why you are there busting heads... in a "spiritual sense". The plot has a strong conclusion and keeps you more than interested the whole ride. Many have argued that it would be a suitable story for Ghostbusters 3 even. Next is the gameplay, which by no means is as good as a game like Call of Duty MW or MW2, but it does the job and does the job well. It doesn't feel clunky by any means, it's fluid and you never feel that you're having to move the character around while being restricted. It's not going to blow your mind but it is fun to say the least. The ghostbusters weapons were done with a lot of love and this is easy to see when playing, shooting your proton pack looks and feels like you thought it would when you pretended to be a ghostbuster as a kid. They're are a ton of weapon upgrades as well as different versions of ghostbusters weapons... -they even threw in the slime thrower from Ghostbusters 2, and it plays a key role in the game- and yes, the answer to the question on everyones mind.. you get to throw out the trap to catch ghosts. As far as graphics and audio go, the game audio is absolutely top of the line and the graphics are what you would expect from a next gen game. Colors pop and animations are fluid, textures are done well and enviroments vary greatly making you feel like you are always somewhere you have not seen before. Now the game has online but it's nothing to write home about, it will provide a few hours of entertainment though after the main storyline is completed. Bottom line is this game is a true gem for anyone who has enjoyed the Ghostbusters movies, and for those who have not- this is a fun action game that shouldn't be missed by anyone.
I have been playing video games for a really long time now and do remember the NES Ghostbusters game. Do not judge this game because it is a Ghostbusters game and you remember the horrible NES version. For a long time now I have been loosing my flair for video games. One can save so many worlds, fight in fighting games with the same type of button mashing, and hear the same story line so many times in your life. I was getting sick and tired of these same old games, just with better graphics. Then you have those games that totally rack your brain because they are way too complicated and need an associates degree of that game just to play the thing. This game was very enjoyable and could play over and over again, just like watching the movies. You get a fun Ghostbusters movie along with it being interactive. What better offer is there? I can only think of one thing that would be even better; if the made more of these games! Now, if they only made more games from my childhood like: Thundercats, Voltron, and He-Man and made them as good as this game!
Solid Effort From a Long Forgotten Era
Who ya gonna call Ghostbusters of course. Okay so the game has come out and finally we all have something to play again. The game in and of it self is pretty fun, I was really worried about the title but I became more an more excited as the released date came near. So I went to a local gamestop store and reserved a copy, & finally got to play it today and it starts out great. I cannot speak all that much on the game but the sound is wonderful, graphics are good not great, story is great and really could have been the third ghostbuster film, yes it is that good I think anyways. Only thing I am not crazy about is that the controls sometimes get in your way more than the help you and you are constantly having to save your other fellow Ghostbusters an I thought you were the rookie in the game hmmm ??? Interesting is it not.... To any event let us not split hairs other than the controls the game itself is really good and worth a buy. Please if you grew up with the films and the animated series that followed you will love this title. Buy a copy today !!!
Are You a God?
this game is great. i love the story. people underestimate games like this but i love it. its like the 3rd movie. it never gets old because i just play it again and again. take the time to look at this and remember who you gonna call?
Well i have to say this game was done very well i honestly played for 6 hours nonstop and couldnt get enough of it . first off the graphics are amazing possibly the best looking ps3 game out there to date . the sound and controls are perfect although i would like to have seen an auto lock button for targeting but i will not down it for that . NOT TO OFTEN DOES A GAME live up to the hype but this one does , i m a picky gamer and this game ranks up there , i like it better than bioshock and thats saying alot, hope batman asylum is just as good . so anyone doubting buying this game rest soundly knowing your money was spent wisely because it simply is one of the best games in the last 2 years . its funny how lame the nintendo wii version of the game looks compared to the ps3 its not even in the same ballpark , you wii owners enjoy your mario cause us real gamers will be playing ps3 ghostbusters
A must have for Ghostbustin fans
Ok so i've been waiting for this game for awhile now and finally got it. I must admit i was thinking it was going to be over hyped but it wasnt so that showed a good sign. so i came home and put it in the PS3 and man was i blown away. I mean the Graphics looked so awesome and facial expressions and faces were right on the money. The theme song came on and i was ready to do some ghostbustin. the controls are smooth and fun and the storyline deserves a 15/10 i mean it's great. Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd wrote a good script. I think everything about this game is amazing. I've been a big fan of ghostbusters since i was little from Lunchbox to pajamas to halloween costume (which was last year and was amazing). I would definitely recommend this to any ghostbusters fan regardless of what people say. If you like to ghostbust then BUY BUY BUY!!! i wish it was a real job HAHAHA! no seriously. :)
There's Something Weird and it Don't Look Good
I am a BIG fan of Ghostbusters and always have been so when I heard about this game, I immedietly bought it! It was my first PS3 game to EVER play and I thought it was kind of cool. There are Ups and Downs but overall, it is above average.UPS- Incredible Graphics! It makes you feel like you are actually in the movie! There is an incredible storyline that the creators put together. The ghost looks so real and frightning, sometimes they just pop out at you and scare the heck out of you. The characters look SO real and it has BEASTLY sound! (for all you old folk, Beastly means good)DOWNS- All you can do is walk around with your guy and shoot lasers, you can't even pick anything up. When you jump, you can't jump over spaces (which you usually can't in video games. They do that to make it more challenging.)So it is an awesome game. 8 outta 10.
I got this game thinking it wasn't going to be as great as other action games, but unlike my expectations this game turned out to be great. This is a must-get for anyone who is a fan of the series. It shows the likeness and personalities of the original cast of Ghostbusters. The story was one of the greatest aspects of the game. The controls are fast and easy to learn. An example of the functional gameplay is when you grapple ghosts with your proton stream into the ghost traps. The developers of this game made it into a very exciting experience to catch ghosts within the game. Another great part of the game is the ability to upgrade your weaponry. Even the online mode, I thought wasn't going to be that great, but yet again I was surprised by the capabilities of this great game. If you are looking for a great action game and like the original Ghostbusters series this is a game for you.
I love the Ghostbusters and even grew up watching the animated series for a while as well as both movies. The game play was fun and challenging. The graphics are pretty tough...I was impressed. The characters actually came back to the studio just to do the game so the stars in the movie are the stars in the game. I will say the game was indeed wildly successful back in 2009. It is really hard to put it down once I pick it up. Everyone has different opinions so make sure you absolutely love the Ghostbusters before you try the game, otherwise this review will be pointless...like many others, lol. The bottom line is that this is a great game to own/rent and I reccommend this to everyone.
i ain't a-a-a-afraid no g-g-g-ghost!
not sure if i am a ghostbusters fanboy but i can sure say i really like this game, the controls are solid, even the evade button is pretty nice when caught up in a bind or a pinch! i saw this game [actual game play footage] demoed and had to snag it! i am so glad, too!!! the sound is amazing and the controls are very solid especially when nabbing ghosts and luring them into traps! a nice addition is "venting" the pack and the swoosh sound it produces. . .venting the pack allows the proton pack 2 rapidly cool-down, the visuals are pretty nice, and ambient music and sound effects are a welcome addition. other than that, my only complaint would be the load time intros before each mission, but the cool thing is while loading, they are showing a nice video intro and the music is just revving up. get pumped up, folks! and good haunting, errr. . .uh. . .hunting!
