Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
If you’re looking for game that plays like most of today’s shooters but has the theme of something made in the late 80’s, than look no further. This game is every bit of perfection. They shot for retro genre mixed with modern shooter and they nailed it. Everything about the game was beautiful, the sound, picture, gameplay, it was amazing. I remember how excited I was to see something like this when I first saw the screenshots. The description had me; even the format for which it was explained was amazingly vintage. I honestly enjoyed this game more than I did the actual Far cry cannon. I can’t believe how well the pulled it off, this could have easily been the most ridiculous, corny attempt at a vintage shooter ever made had another company made the attempt.
This was presented as a DLC for $15 but it truly is worth the full-price of a game. This game took much longer than I anticipated due to the useless shenanigans that I would find myself doing in both this game and any other Farcry.
I loved the weapons, I wish they had more. Whether you use what appears to be Robocop’s pistol or an assault rifle that shoots laser beams you’re going to enjoy yourself. They are fully customizable like they are in Far cry 3. The bright neon glow from the cyborg super-soldiers and mutated dragons was the perfect touch to throw the experience back to the last three decades. What really sells the vintage is the cut scenes, it’s like a comic book or a slide show. You cannot help but laugh; it is exactly how cut scenes were in Super Nintendo. The music was another spot-on performance. Nearly all video games, movies, and TV shows in the 1980’s had music that is indistinguishable from Blood Dragon’s. Even the plot is about as original as anything else made 30 years ago, and I absolutely cherish that.
This game is a retro cliché paradise, it doesn’t skip a beat. I highly recommend this game, even if you were too young to live through such an era. You’ll enjoy the experience regardless of your gaming history. If you’re a fan of either Far Cry or a genre that I described than you’re wasting your time reading this because you should be playing this game right now. I welcome, and highly anticipate a sequel in the form of either a DLC or a stand-alone game. I honestly believe that it would be successful as its own game.
Far cry 3 blood dragon will probably be the best 15 dollars you've ever wasted for a standalone title, it features everything that's awesome from cyborg enemies to dragons that shoot lasers out of their eye, have i not mention the awesome vehicles and weapons they have stored in this world. Farcry blood dragon is almost like farcry 3 except no dragons, lasers, robots, and corny pun jokes made by the protagonist. Its pretty funny hearing what Rex Power Colt says, game works perfectly and enemies AI are smarter then your average FPS, don't worry you dont need far cry 3 for this its just 15 bucks of pure goodness. Buy this game for dragons and pixelated cut scenes. Also the game is absolutely beautiful with all its neon coloured stuff
For the Love of the 80s
I guess you could say I was raised with the 80s built in my brain although I was born a few years after. My mother gave me her old NES when I was around 2 or 3. I used to play it all the time. Games such as Super Mario Bros., Dick Tracey, Football, World Track Meet, and Punch-out!! took up many hours of my early life. It was even played on a wood-trimmed Panasonic TV set. It did not end there. To this day I collect a ridiculous number of movies from the 80s. "80s action hero" is probably one of my favorite genres if I am allowed to declared that as a legitimate genre. Anyway, Blood Dragon is the epitome of 80s action from ridiculous unwitting enemies, to 16-bit cut-scenes, to the totally 1980s perspective of what 2007 would be like. The controls are easy to get used to, and the weapons are fun to use. Upgradable weapons and a large totally explorable island adds to the experience. This game is for anyone whom grew up in the 80s, experienced the 80s, or is just a fan of that era. I had the good fortune of catching this at 75% off in the PlayStation Store ($3.75!!) Such a great deal for a great game!
