Rated 2 out of 5 by from Outdated, only for Hardcore Elder Scrolls fans Some people seem to believe that this game is better than Skyrim, and i'm writing this review to completely counter such irrational comments. I don't know if these people are just trying to be different from the rest of society( Ex. Claiming their favorite color is brown, which is nobody's favorite color), or are just so blind as to truly believe that this game is better than Skyrim, but it just makes me roll my eyes and shake my head. After I played Skyrim, I went and bought Oblivion, to see how past Elder Scrolls games played. I had heard alot about Oblivion, and wanted to check it out. This game is so outdated, I felt as though I was playing a PS2. If I had played this game a decade ago, my opinion may have changed, but I am appalled that people consider this game to be better than the record breaking Skyrim. The visuals were so saturated, it was hard to take it seriously, especially compared to the beautiful Viking-esque countryside of Skyrim. The game play was so slow, it felt like I spent real time hours walking. Not harvesting ingredients, finding loot, fighting enemies, talking to people....just walking. I was bored out of my mind. On top of that the technical aspects seemed slow, and plagued by lag. The sound was average, nothing to call trash, yet nothing to write home about. What was frustrating was the complete lack of working systems within the game. I felt that class creation, etc forces you to choose your path, eliminating a truly free role-playing experience. So many aspects of the game are inferior to skyrim (weight, trading, lock-picking, size of towns) it is laughable. This game may have once been a great game, however in 2014 and on forth, I would consider this game to be outdated. I recommend just leaving this game alone, allowing it to be appreciated for what it once was, instead of trying to play it only to ruin your experience through old technology and outdated visuals. Play Skyrim, and appreciate where Elder Scrolls is now, and leave the legacy of Oblivion to what it once was.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from better than skyrim I got this game when I first got my ps3 and I wasn't expecting much because I had never played any of the other elder scrolls games before and after I played it I was really looking forward to getting skyrim but now that I have both I find myself playing oblivion more because I think that oblivion has more customizable features than skyrim I also like oblivions story a whole lot better to I would choose oblivion over skyrim any day

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Game, Amazing Series TES IV: Oblivion, is set in Cyrodill, the cosmopolitian heartland of the empire, during the "Oblivion Crisis". You are a prisoner transfered from morrowind and have a very bright future ahead of you....but you dont know it yet. Overall i have thrre things to say about this game, for 06 it was gorgeous, and even by todays standards its has a good engine. The story is exceptional even though many say it sucks, and the engine is great. The gameplay is great as well. I cant say much about this game besides its great. Its just amazingly good. Even though its 6 years old, and a console rpg, it has so much gameplay value to it, and is much better than skyrim, not graphics wise but overall quality. Just buy it, if you havent already. Its a fantastic game, by all means. Its hard to explain how great it is in a basic review, just trust me, its worth every penny.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not as good as Skyrim I like the game, but the graphics aren't so good. I thought that the assortment of weapons were good, but leveling up is a pain from the fact that you have level up all skills to level up one level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still amazing the second time around. This game is still one of the best RPGs ever created for the consoles. I logged about 100 hours on X-Box 360 version a few years ago and now I still find myself playing it on the PS3 for hours at a time. I highly recommend it for every RPG fan looking for a game to spend many hours on.
